Inhibrx Insider Buying and Short Interest: What INBX Investors Should Know

A third-party ledger reports nearly $4.0 million in recent open-market INBX purchases, while MarketBeat recorded 28.2% of float short on September 15, 2026. Here is how to interpret the figures alongside Inhibrx’s clinical and financing updates.

Inhibrx Biosciences (Nasdaq: INBX) has a notable but not conclusive combination: a third-party ledger reports roughly $4.0 million in open-market insider purchases during a recent 90-day window, while MarketBeat’s September 15, 2026 report puts short interest at 28.2% of float. Together, those figures describe a catalyst-sensitive, potentially volatile biotech setup—not proof that a short squeeze is imminent or that insiders are signaling a specific outcome.

What the insider filings show—and what they do not

Reported purchases in the recent window

Inhibrx’s investor-relations SEC filings index lists Form 4 statements dated September 8 and September 10, 2026. Form 4 is the public filing used to report changes in insiders’ beneficial ownership; the index confirms filing dates, but does not itself provide every transaction detail.

Follow the Filings, a third-party SEC-filing ledger, says its recent 90-day window included six Form 4 filings from four reporting persons. Its aggregation counts open-market purchase and sale rows in Table I and reports:

Reported activity Amount Attribution and qualification
Open-market purchases $3,999,597 across nine rows by three insiders Follow the Filings’ 90-day INBX window; third-party aggregation
Open-market sales $279,010 across five rows by one insider Follow the Filings’ same 90-day window; third-party aggregation
Net purchases $3,720,587 Calculated by the provider from the purchase and sale totals above

The ledger attributes $2,645,399 in purchases to CEO Mark Lappe, $567,580 to director Jon Kayyem, and $286,617 to director Douglas Forsyth; it lists those purchases as filed September 8. It also says three distinct insiders purchased between September 8 and September 16. Those are aggregated dollar figures, not a substitute for reviewing each underlying Form 4. The provider’s method excludes Table II derivative awards and exercises and uses the first reporting owner for filings with multiple owners.

Why a purchase is not an explanation

Form 4 reports ownership transactions; it does not give the buyer’s reason. A purchase can be consistent with a willingness to commit personal capital, but the filing alone does not establish a view about a particular clinical result, approval decision, or future share price. The company’s proxy says its insider-trading policy generally prohibits directors and executives from transactions intended to profit from short-term speculative swings, including short sales and listed puts or calls. That policy is context, not evidence of why any named insider bought shares or whether a purchase predicts company performance.

For transaction-level confirmation—including exact shares, prices, ownership changes, and any applicable footnotes—consult the individual SEC Form 4s rather than relying solely on a third-party tally. The company’s filing index confirms September filings, but the cited evidence does not establish the full transaction picture after September 16.

How much of INBX’s float was short?

Two dated MarketBeat observations

MarketBeat’s reported short-interest history shows an increase in shares sold short between the August 31 and September 15, 2026 report dates. These are periodic vendor-reported observations, not real-time short-position data.

Report date Shares sold short Short interest as share of float Days to cover
August 31, 2026 3,297,743 27.4% 10.39
September 15, 2026 3,393,511 28.2% 8.31

Across those observations, reported short interest rose by 95,768 shares and 0.8 percentage points of float, while days to cover fell by 2.08. The percentage depends on the reported float denominator, and days to cover is a ratio affected by the volume window and data-provider methodology. It does not mean short sellers must buy shares back within that number of days.

What high short interest can—and cannot—signal

A large short position can amplify price moves if short sellers cover while available shares or liquidity are limited. It does not, on its own, establish that a forced buy-in will occur or that a squeeze is likely. Short sellers can add, reduce, or roll positions; trading volume, new share issuance, company news, and liquidity can all change the setup. The figures above do not provide current borrow fees, options positioning, or live share availability.

Why clinical news matters to this setup

September 8 Phase 2 update

Inhibrx reported results from a Phase 2 study of INBRX-106, described by the company as a hexavalent OX40 agonist, in combination with pembrolizumab versus pembrolizumab alone. The study population was first-line, PD-L1-positive, CPS ≥20 metastatic or unresectable recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). The company reported:

Company-reported endpoint INBRX-106 plus pembrolizumab Pembrolizumab alone
Confirmed objective response rate (cORR) 48.3% 26.5%
Progression-free at six months 72.4% 42.8%

The company said the apparent benefit was most pronounced in HPV-positive patients and planned to add approximately 50 HPV-positive participants. These are company-reported Phase 2 results; they do not establish a confirmed clinical benefit for every patient group, a regulatory decision, or an assured approval path.

Other items on the company’s catalyst timeline

Inhibrx’s investor-news index also lists second-quarter results on August 13, 2026, and FDA acceptance on June 15, 2026, of the ozekibart BLA for conventional chondrosarcoma. Those index entries place the INBRX-106 update among several company developments, but do not by themselves supply the underlying financial or clinical details needed to assess their implications.

How to read the loan facility headline

A July 15, 2026 SEC-filed loan amendment described an Oxford Finance facility that could reach $500 million. The maximum is not the same as cash already received:

Facility component Amount and condition
Funded at amendment execution $100 million
Potential additional borrowing Up to $225 million, in increments of at least $50 million, at the company’s request and subject to lenders’ sole discretion
Headline facility ceiling Up to $500 million; not all funded proceeds

The amendment also describes warrants tied to funding. The cited filing details do not establish current cash runway or whether later amounts have been drawn, so the facility ceiling should not be treated as available cash or a runway estimate.

A practical way to assess the INBX setup

  • Separate records from interpretation. Form 4 transaction reports, company-reported trial data, and vendor-estimated short-interest figures measure different things.
  • Keep dates attached to market statistics. Short-interest figures are report-date snapshots; they are not live readings.
  • Read the clinical endpoint and population carefully. The September figures concern a specific first-line HNSCC study and remain Phase 2 company-reported data.
  • Distinguish a facility maximum from funded money. The loan headline includes amounts dependent on company request and lender discretion.
  • Keep the issuer straight. INBX is Inhibrx Biosciences, not the former parent Inhibrx, Inc. or another similarly named biotech security.

For a personal-finance decision, the evidence supports treating insider buying and elevated short interest as context for volatility, not as a standalone buy or sell signal. The setup remains dependent on clinical, financing, and market developments; the available figures do not establish the direction or timing of the stock’s next move.
