AIG announced on October 1, 2026, that Turab Hussain will become its Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer on October 12. He is set to succeed Christopher Schaper, who plans to retire at the end of 2026 and will remain with AIG through year-end to support the transition. As of October 3, the appointment has been announced but has not yet taken effect.

When does Hussain take over as AIG’s CRO?

Hussain’s appointment is effective October 12, 2026. Until then, the change remains prospective; AIG’s announcement does not say that he has already assumed the role. Once in the position, he will report to President and CEO Eric Andersen, join AIG’s Executive Leadership Team and remain based at the company’s New York headquarters. AIG’s October 1 announcement describes the appointment and transition.

Why is Hussain a plausible successor?

His experience spans both enterprise actuarial work and insurance risk leadership. Since 2023, Hussain has served as AIG’s Global Chief Actuary, overseeing pricing, reserving and other company-wide actuarial activities. He joined AIG in 2021 as Chief Risk Officer for General Insurance. Before AIG, he held risk and actuarial leadership roles at PartnerRe and The Hartford, according to the company’s announcement.

AIG CEO Eric Andersen said Hussain’s understanding of the company positions him to lead its enterprise risk organization, with a focus on how AIG assesses, manages and responds to risk. That is the company’s stated assessment of his fit, rather than evidence of results in the new role, which begins October 12.

Who is replacing Hussain as Global Chief Actuary?

AIG appointed Graham Fulcher to succeed Hussain as Global Chief Actuary, also effective October 12, 2026. Fulcher will report to Hussain and be based in London. He joined AIG in 2022 as Chief Actuary, International Commercial Insurance, according to the same announcement.

What is Schaper’s departure timeline?

Schaper informed AIG that he intends to retire at the end of 2026. AIG says he will stay through year-end to support the transition. He joined the company in 2019 as CEO of AIG Re, later served as Global Chief Underwriting Officer from November 2023 to January 2025, and became Chief Risk Officer in January 2025, according to AIG’s announcement. AIG’s 2025 annual report, filed February 12, 2026, provides historical context on his AIG leadership roles.
