For investor-focused analysis, consider Barron’s; for an active-investor news site with commentary and tools, MarketWatch; and for investing analysis products, education, and a weekly print edition, Investor’s Business Daily (IBD). The right fit depends on whether you need breaking market coverage, investment analysis, trading tools, education, or a physical newspaper.
Which publication fits your investing or trading needs?
| Publication | Best fit | Formats and features described by News Corp |
|---|---|---|
| The Wall Street Journal | Broad business, economic, and financial-market coverage | Online, mobile, and print; coverage includes business, economics, financial markets, and investing. News Corp says it offers both free and premium subscription-only digital content. |
| Barron’s | Investor-oriented reporting and analysis | Online, mobile, and print; news, analysis, investigative reporting, company profiles, and statistics for investors. |
| MarketWatch | Active-investor news and market tools | A digital investing and financial news service with real-time commentary, investment tools, and data. The company description reviewed does not identify a print newspaper edition. |
| Investor’s Business Daily (IBD) | Investing analysis products and education, including a weekly print publication | Online and print content, mobile apps, and video; includes Investors.com, MarketSurge, and LeaderBoard research and analysis tools. |
These descriptions come from News Corp’s 2026 annual report. They explain each product’s stated focus and formats, not which one will lead to better investment decisions or suit a particular trading strategy.
How to choose a source
Start with the job you need the publication to do. A general business newspaper can help you follow companies, economic developments, and financial markets in one place. An investor-focused publication may offer more company analysis and profiles. A digital service aimed at active investors may be more useful when you want frequent commentary, data, or tools. An education-oriented product may help you build an investing process, but it is not a substitute for assessing risk or verifying an investment independently.
- Choose by coverage: Decide whether broad business news or dedicated investment analysis matters more.
- Check format: If you want a newspaper delivered or bought in print, confirm that the specific publication and edition are available where you live. Digital access may be more practical if you want updates throughout the day.
- Assess tools separately from journalism: Compare what data and analytical tools are included, and whether they are available with the access option you plan to use.
- Consider update cadence: Daily news, real-time commentary, and weekly print coverage serve different routines. Match the publication to how often you actually review markets.
What the audience figures do—and do not—show
News Corp’s 2026 annual report provides company-reported scale figures. For the three months ended June 28, 2026, it reports average daily subscriptions of 4.827 million for WSJ and 1.602 million for Barron’s Group. The latter is a grouped figure that includes Barron’s, MarketWatch, Financial News, and Private Equity News; it is not a standalone Barron’s subscription count.
