By 2024, she was working in a rural Kansas grocery store for $11 an hour. A 2026 Marie Claire profile traces the changes between those points: premature twins who needed intensive care, the end of her marriage, depleted savings, childcare costs and project work that ran out. Her account is a personal story, not a formula for how financial hardship happens to everyone.
A successful career before the financial upheaval
In Noor Ibrahim’s October 1, 2026, Marie Claire profile, Andreasen describes studying journalism at the University of Oklahoma before moving into sales and executive recruiting. She says she spent about two decades in recruiting, managing teams and divisions in Kansas City, Denver and Boulder.

The profile reports that she received a division director of the year award in 2011 and was the top producer among 425 offices globally. Andreasen says she launched an independent staffing-firm partnership in the Denver area in 2017 and earned six figures in most years. “I was a six-figure earner most years,” she says, recalling that she could comfortably make $125,000 or $150,000.
Those career and earnings details are reported as Andreasen’s account; the profile does not present them as independently audited figures. Read the full account in Marie Claire’s feature.

Caregiving, separation and the loss of financial footing
Andreasen became pregnant with twins at 38. The boys were born in 2019, eight weeks prematurely, according to the profile. She says they needed special formula every three hours, day and night, during their first year. She shifted from running a business to full-time caregiving.
Her marriage ended during this period. Andreasen says she left without an independent bank account and relied on savings and retirement funds. Daycare was unaffordable, making it difficult to resume work while caring for the children. The profile presents these pressures together rather than naming a single cause for the financial decline.
Work returned, but the costs were hard to sustain
After moving in with her father, Andreasen later resumed work with her former business partner on large projects. She says she rented a house and paid for a full-time nanny so she could take on the work. When the projects ended, the household expenses were no longer sustainable.
By 2024, the profile reports, she was working at a grocery store in rural Kansas for $11 an hour and seeking childcare assistance. She describes repeated visits to a Department of Children and Families office and the strain of waiting for support while childcare access remained a barrier.
In September 2024, Andreasen and her sons moved to Paola, Kansas. Her father financed and owns the house she designed. Her account shows how a return to paid work did not automatically resolve the mismatch between irregular project income, household costs and the practical need for childcare.

Andreasen recalls feeling that people treated her differently once she was a mother working in a grocery store. She contrasts that experience with her earlier professional life. These are her perceptions as described in the profile, not evidence that all mothers, grocery workers or people experiencing poverty are treated the same way.
The contrast gives the story its central tension: a person with a long career and years of high earnings could still face a severe financial reversal when caregiving, relationship change, depleted resources and interrupted work converged. The profile does not frame her circumstances as proof that a particular financial choice or a single event explains poverty.
A new direction in local civic life and writing
After moving to Paola, Andreasen began attending local school board meetings and wrote four editorials for her county newspaper. She started publishing on Substack in January 2026. In the profile, she describes gradually seeing civic involvement and writing as a possible new direction—not as a conventional recovery plan or a guarantee of financial stability.
Her story ends with that developing practice rather than a tidy resolution. It records both the loss of the professional identity she had built and the beginnings of a different one, while leaving the longer-term financial outcome open.
