German DDR5 prices had largely stopped climbing by the second quarter of 2026, but they had not returned to normal: 3DCenter’s index put desktop DDR5 retail prices at 419% of their Q2 2025 baseline. The evidence points to a high, uneven plateau—not the end of the price crisis—and does not establish when prices will return to earlier levels.
What does “levelled off” mean for German DDR5 prices?
It means the broad upward surge paused, not that DDR5 became affordable again. In 3DCenter’s German desktop DDR5 retail index, Q2 2026 stood at 419% of the Q2 2025 baseline, up from 408% in Q1 2026. In other words, the index was 4.19 times its baseline level, not 419% higher than that baseline.
The index describes retail prices for desktop DDR5 as a group. It is not the price of a particular kit, and it should not be compared directly with the upstream chip spot prices also reported by 3DCenter. Different capacities and speeds can move in different directions even while the overall index changes little.
How uneven were the price changes?
Small average movements concealed substantial kit-by-kit changes. These dated German retail observations show why a market-wide plateau is not a promise that any particular configuration has stopped moving:

| Period and source | Reported change or price | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Mid-January to end of January 2026; Tom’s Hardware, 20 kits | Average movement: +0.1%. A 64GB (2×32GB) DDR5-6000 kit fell 15%, from about €699 to €596; some 96GB and 32GB configurations rose. | A near-flat average can include both substantial discounts and increases. |
| January 2026; Tom’s Hardware | A 32GB DDR5-6000 kit was about €400, or 432% above its July 2025 level. | A pause in the increase did not undo the earlier rise. |
| April 2026; TrendForce, 20 products | Average movement: +0.3%. A 2×48GB DDR5-6400 kit rose 16%, a 2×32GB DDR5-7200 kit rose 10%, and a 2×16GB DDR5-7200 kit fell 13%. | High-capacity and some high-speed kits rose while another configuration declined. |
| April 2026; TrendForce | The average remained roughly 4.1 times July 2025 levels. | The small April rebound followed a March decline, but prices were still far above the earlier reference point. |
These figures cover different samples and reference periods. They are useful evidence of direction and variation, not a single continuous price series for every German DDR5 kit.
Why can retail prices pause while RAM remains under pressure?
Retailers do not necessarily pay or sell at the same time that chip spot and contract prices move. The supply chain has to package, ship and distribute memory, and retailers may still be selling inventory bought earlier. 3DCenter describes a usual lag of about one quarter; in crisis conditions, weak sales can extend it.

That timing matters when interpreting 3DCenter’s reported DDR5 16G spot price: DRAMeXchange data were $5.24 in Q1 2025 and $46.67 in Q2 2026. Those are chip spot prices, not German retail kit prices; the 419% figure is a retail index. They measure different things and should not be treated as interchangeable price quotes.
3DCenter also reported that contract prices had begun rising faster than retail prices by Q2 2026. If those higher upstream prices pass through, retailers could raise prices later. The evidence does not establish how large or how soon any such increase would be.

Are DDR5 prices likely to return to normal soon?
No reliable date for a return to pre-crisis German prices is established by the available evidence. Tom’s Hardware identifies several conditions that could help prices normalize: lower demand, new DRAM capacity arriving in late 2026–2027, or manufacturing-process improvements that increase efficiency. These are possible contributors, not a timetable or guarantee.
A discount from a recent peak is not the same as normalization. Tom’s Hardware reported that a Corsair 32GB DDR5-6000 kit had fallen from about €480 to €425, and a comparable Kingston kit from about €550 to €463. Those are dated observations, not current offers, and both examples remained far above earlier levels.

Should you buy DDR5 now or wait?
For a personal-finance decision, start with whether the memory is needed now, then compare the exact kit—not just the DDR5 label. The data show that capacity and speed affect price movements, so the market average may not predict the price of the kit you plan to buy.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
- If you need the memory for a planned build or replacement: compare current prices for kits that match your requirements and budget. A large fall from a recent peak does not by itself show that the price is low relative to 2025.
- If the purchase can wait: waiting may let you benefit from a further correction, but the Q2 2026 contract-price gap also leaves room for renewed retail increases. There is no established date when prices will normalize.
- Compare like with like: check desktop UDIMM versus laptop SO-DIMM, total capacity, data rate, timings and the price history of the exact model. A 64GB or 96GB kit, for example, should not be assumed to follow a 32GB kit’s price trend.
- Use dated prices as context, not quotes: Tom’s Hardware checked German Amazon listings for Crucial Pro 32GB DDR5-6400, Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB DDR5-6000, G.Skill Flare X5 32GB DDR5-6000, Kingston Fury Beast 32GB DDR5-6000 and Patriot Viper Venom 32GB DDR5-6000. Its reported €425 price for Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB DDR5-6000 (CMH32GX5M2E6000C36) and €463 for a comparable Kingston kit were snapshots, not live prices.
