What did Stadium acquire from Zirkon?
Stadium acquired Zirkon Limited, an EMS provider established in 1999. Zirkon served customers in industrial instrumentation, security, medical and mobility markets. Its Rugby, UK operation became part of Stadium Electronics and continued trading under that name.

Stadium announced net cash consideration of £2.5 million for Zirkon on 3 November 2008. The announcement described the amount as net cash consideration; it does not establish a current valuation or a comparable present-day price.

What capabilities did the acquisition add?
The combined Stadium Electronics operation had six surface-mount production lines. Zirkon also added testing capability, including automated optical inspection (AOI), mechanical assembly, and further design and engineering resources.
The acquisition expanded Stadium’s manufacturing footprint beyond its existing Hartlepool operation. Zirkon brought experience serving industrial instrumentation, security, medical and mobility customers, while the combined business could offer these capabilities alongside Stadium’s existing operations.

Why did Stadium buy Zirkon?
Stadium said Zirkon was well managed and fit its operating model and growth strategy. Management also said Zirkon customers could gain access to Stadium’s wholly owned China operations for offshore manufacturing and global procurement.
Richard Reid, then managing director of Stadium Electronics, said: “The acquisition of Zirkon is key to the development of Stadium Electronics and will play a significant role in the future growth of our business.” Stadium also described the acquisition as complementary to Hartlepool and an opportunity to expand through the combined businesses’ capabilities and customer and market synergies.
