Equifax named Jamil Farshchi chief information security officer on February 12, 2018, after he had led security at The Home Depot. The appointment put him in charge of company-wide security-program transformation following Equifax’s 2017 data breach. Farshchi later moved into technology leadership; Equifax’s 2026 proxy identifies Jeremy Koppen as its new CISO.
Who is Jamil Farshchi?
Farshchi is a technology and information-security executive whose career has included senior roles at The Home Depot, Time Warner, Visa, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sitel, Nextwave Broadband and NASA. Why did Equifax hire him?
Equifax announced the appointment on February 12, 2018, describing Farshchi as the executive who would take company-wide leadership of an information-security transformation already underway and work with other organizations to share security practices. The appointment followed the 2017 breach and Equifax’s public effort to rebuild trust. Interim CEO Paulino do Rego Barros, Jr. said the company was confident Farshchi could help it develop stronger security practices and regain consumers’ and customers’ trust. Equifax’s appointment announcement

Equifax testimony described him as reporting directly to the CEO and leading the security program, while emphasizing that protecting information should be a responsibility shared across the company—not left solely to security specialists. The testimony also said Equifax added nearly 1,000 full-time IT and security professionals in 2018. That figure reflects a company-wide staffing change; it does not establish how many people Farshchi personally hired or isolate his contribution to the outcome. What happened after his CISO appointment?
Farshchi’s responsibilities expanded over time. Equifax’s filing lists him as both CISO and CTO from December 2024, then as EVP CTO from May 2025. The roles mark a transition from direct security-program leadership toward technology leadership; the filing does not attribute Equifax’s overall security or technology results to him alone. Equifax’s 2026 proxy names Jeremy Koppen as the company’s new CISO. It reports that about 90% of revenue in 2025 came from products delivered through an application running in Equifax Cloud, compared with 85% in 2024, and says cybersecurity-program maturity exceeded major industry benchmarks for the sixth consecutive year. The company’s stated investment, staffing and cloud figures help show the scale of its transformation. They should be read as Equifax’s own reporting rather than an independent assessment of whether its security is adequate.
