Macquarie Electronics was appointed to remarket selected equipment from Qimonda AG’s 300 mm wafer-fabrication facility in Dresden, Germany, according to reports published July 1, 2009. The reports describe an insolvency-related resale, not a new fab project, and do not establish that the equipment ultimately sold.
Who was selling Qimonda’s Dresden fab tools?
Qimonda’s insolvency administrator appointed Macquarie Electronics, described in the July 1, 2009 EE Times and EDN reports as a semiconductor-equipment remarketing specialist, to resell selected tools from the Dresden facility. A Macquarie spokesman distinguished the assignment from the U.S. process: “Colliers is selling Qimonda Richmond fab/tools. We are remarketing tools from Dresden.”
EDN also reported that some Qimonda holdings had already been sold, including the Dresden photomask center. That does not establish that the Dresden wafer-fab tools covered by Macquarie’s assignment were sold.
What equipment was included?
The reports describe selected 300 mm wafer-fabrication equipment, including tools from these manufacturers:

- ASML
They also identify equipment for test, assembly, and packaging from Advantest, Accretech, and Suss MicroTec. The reports do not provide a lot-by-lot inventory, specific model numbers, configurations, or quantities.
Was the equipment sold, and for how much?
The July 1, 2009 reports establish the appointment and broad equipment categories, but do not report final buyers, sale prices, lot counts, or realized proceeds. They therefore do not confirm whether the selected Dresden fab tools were ultimately sold or what they fetched. They also do not establish a current Macquarie resale program for Qimonda equipment.
How did the Dresden assignment differ from the U.S. sale process?
Qimonda’s Richmond, Virginia fab and tools were being handled separately. EDN reported that Colliers International, Emerald Technology Valuations LLC, and Gordon Brothers were assisting with that sale, subject to bankruptcy-court approval. Those advisers should not be confused with Macquarie’s Dresden remarketing assignment.

The 2009 reports do not publish the specifications needed to evaluate an individual used semiconductor tool. For any separately documented lot, a prospective buyer would need to establish its process role and configuration, maintenance history, software and available spares, service support, removal and shipping arrangements, contamination or decontamination status, applicable export controls, and likely refurbishment costs. These are due-diligence considerations, not details established for the Qimonda lots by the reports.
