Saelig Company is a Fairport, New York, distributor and sales-and-marketing agent that helps engineers and other U.S. buyers find specialized electronics, especially test and measurement equipment. Founded in 1988 by engineer Alan Lowne, it represents manufacturers, offers product guidance and demonstrations, stocks selected equipment, and fulfills orders.
What does Saelig sell?
Saelig’s catalog centers on instruments and tools used to measure, generate, diagnose, or control electrical and electronic signals. It ranges from general-purpose lab equipment to niche systems for troubleshooting assembled circuit boards.
| Product group | Examples | Typical task |
|---|---|---|
| Test and measurement | Oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, digital multimeters, and data loggers | Observe signals, examine frequency content, measure electrical quantities, or record changes over time |
| Signal generation | Logic, signal, waveform, digital pattern, and pure RF generators | Supply test signals or patterns to a circuit or device under test |
| PCB diagnosis | Fault-finding and reverse-engineering systems | Investigate faults in assembled printed circuit boards |
| EMC and safety | EMI enclosures and safety devices | Support electromagnetic-compatibility work and equipment safety |
| Industrial and embedded electronics | Ruggedized PCs, embedded modules, displays, sensors, motors, and motor controls | Build or maintain systems that use industrial computing and electronic components |
| Connectivity and wireless | USB, serial, Ethernet, and CAN interfaces; wireless transmitters and receivers; cables and converters | Connect equipment or transmit and receive data |
The catalog spans economical and premium instruments. Saelig’s current About page says it represents more than 100 manufacturers. Earlier counts describe different moments and measures: an EE Times interview in 2018 referred to more than 100 companies in about 15 countries, while a Saelig newsletter from October 2021 described products from 20 countries. Those figures should not be read as one current count of countries or manufacturers.
What is Saelig Company’s role in the U.S. market?
Saelig is more than a list of product listings. It serves as a U.S. market-maker for manufacturers whose specialized products may be unfamiliar to American buyers. Its work includes representing manufacturers, explaining and promoting their products, helping customers choose equipment, stocking selected items, and handling fulfillment.

That combination can matter when a buyer cannot confidently choose from a short description or a specification sheet. Saelig says it provides knowledgeable responses and technical support, and its sales process can include demonstrations, including a demonstration using a customer’s own circuit board. For manufacturers entering the U.S. market, the same activities provide a local channel for product promotion and customer assistance.
In 2018, Saelig CEO Alan Lowne described the strategy to EE Times this way: “We’re trying to build a portfolio of products that aren’t sold on Amazon and never will be.” That was his description of the company’s approach at the time, not a claim that none of its products can be found through online marketplaces today.

Who buys from Saelig?
The customer base is broader than electronics design labs. Saelig’s buyers include industrial and design engineers, manufacturers, repair technicians, educators and students, hospitals, government and military organizations, and individual users. Their common need is access to equipment suited to a specific technical job, rather than only consumer electronics.
For a buyer, the practical distinction is the type of help and equipment being sought. A broad marketplace may be convenient for straightforward, familiar purchases; a specialist distributor is more relevant when the job calls for a particular instrument, compatibility guidance, or a demonstration. A direct manufacturer may be the right channel for product information or a purchase, while Saelig’s stated role combines representation with U.S. sales support and fulfillment. Availability, lead time, and the seller for any particular product depend on the item and should be confirmed before ordering.

Which oscilloscope or PCB tester should you use?
For general signal work: start with the oscilloscope
An oscilloscope displays how an electrical signal changes over time. It is a general-purpose choice for engineers, technicians, educators, and others who need to inspect circuit behavior, compare signals, or diagnose intermittent problems. Saelig sells oscilloscopes across economical and premium categories. The right model depends on the signals and work at hand; check the required bandwidth, sample rate, channel count, probes, and interface against the application rather than choosing on price or headline specifications alone.
Lowne told EE Times in 2018, “Our most popular products are oscilloscopes.” The statement identifies the category’s importance to Saelig at that time; it is not a current sales ranking.

For assembled-board fault diagnosis: consider a dedicated PCB system
A specialized board tester can make more sense than a general-purpose scope when the task is to diagnose a complex assembled circuit board, particularly if replacing the board is costly or difficult. The ABI Electronics BoardMaster is a notable example associated with Saelig. EE Times reported that it can test an assembled board with its power on or off and use sharp pins to pierce conformal coating. A NAVAIR small-business profile describes applications that include diagnosing boards in aircraft, vehicles, ships, computers, test equipment, and automated manufacturing systems.
EE Times also reported that Saelig had sold BoardMaster systems to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency and that the National Transportation Safety Board and military had shown interest. Those examples illustrate the kind of repair and maintenance work the product can serve; they do not establish that every organization named purchased or currently uses the system.

- Helpful in various ways
How should a buyer approach a specialized purchase?
- Define the job. Specify whether you need to view a signal over time, analyze its frequency content, generate a test signal, log measurements, or locate faults on an assembled board.
- Check the application requirements. Gather the relevant signal, connection, environmental, and workflow requirements, and confirm that the instrument supports them.
- Ask for technical guidance where the fit is unclear. Share the intended use and constraints with the distributor or manufacturer. For a board diagnostic system, a demonstration on a representative board can help establish whether the method suits the repair task.
- Confirm the order details. Ask who is selling the equipment, what is in the package, whether the item is stocked or special order, and what support and fulfillment arrangements apply. These details can vary by product.
