In-Stat was a business-to-business technology research firm acquired by The NPD Group in 2011. NPD initially kept it operating alongside DisplaySearch, then closed the In-Stat operation in Scottsdale in 2012. A 2012 report said 20 employees were laid off.

What In-Stat did

In-Stat sold market intelligence to business customers, not consumer products. Its work focused on mobile phones, connected devices, digital entertainment and the wider mobile Internet ecosystem. Its services included research reports, subscriptions, consulting and advisory work. Research Live and Marketing Dive described its business and coverage.

In-Stat was characterized in 2011 acquisition coverage as having more than three decades of experience in the technology sector. Marketing Dive

Who bought In-Stat, and what happened after the acquisition?

The NPD Group finalized its acquisition of In-Stat on April 1, 2011, according to Research Live. In-Stat president Mark Kirstein remained in his role, and the business was set to work in conjunction with NPD’s DisplaySearch analyst business.

Can you still find old In-Stat research?

Whether In-Stat reports or subscriptions remain available through an archive is not established by the cited reporting. If you encounter a report attributed to In-Stat, check its publication date, original publisher, geographic scope and methodology. Also distinguish an original In-Stat document from a later article that merely cites or summarizes its findings; those are not interchangeable sources.
