Angi bases those figures on 15,434 verified Angi Pro projects. Treat them as a budgeting benchmark, not a quote: door size, material, installation scope, location, and any repairs can change the total.
What does a garage door replacement typically cost?
Angi’s 2026 guide puts the national average at $1,231, with most observed projects between $754 and $1,707. Those figures describe a broad mix of projects, not a guaranteed installed price for a specific home. The estimate is based on 15,434 verified Angi Pro projects. Angi’s garage door cost guide gives the underlying ranges.
A different benchmark comes from the 2025 Cost vs. Value Report: Zonda Media modeled a $4,672 replacement project. It specifies a 16-by-7-foot insulated steel door rated at least R-12, new tracks and hardware, removal and disposal of the old door and tracks, and reuse of the existing opener. That defined model should not be confused with Angi’s broad project average or treated as a local cash quote. The report summary, as covered by Door + Access Systems, says the modeled project recouped 268% of its cost in its resale-value analysis; this is not a guaranteed return on an individual homeowner’s spending. 2025 Cost vs. Value Report · Door + Access Systems

Insulation and automation
Angi estimates insulated doors at $1,100–$4,200 in its 2026 guide. R-value is the manufacturer’s measure of a door’s insulation capacity; compare the rating alongside the purchase price rather than assuming all insulated models perform alike. Moving from manual operation to an automatic opener adds an estimated $200–$1,300, depending on the setup. Smart app-connected openers are at the higher end, and new wiring may require electrical work.

Labor, haul-away, permits, and repairs
When itemized separately, Angi’s 2026 guide lists labor at $200–$500, with a stated average of $350. Many installers bundle labor into the total. Old-door removal may be a separate $50–$200 charge, though some installers include it. A permit, if required, is typically estimated at $40–$120; standard replacements often do not require one, but structural changes may. Check local code.
Angi cites $155–$380 as a potential cost for structural repairs, such as addressing water damage or rot found during installation. Damage may not be visible until the old door is removed, so ask how the contractor will price and approve unexpected framing work.

- DIMENSION : One Pair of 220 lbs Heavy Duty Garage Door Extension Springs ( Green ), These are 25-Inch long at rest and 67-Inch long when fully stretched. And and fit for configurations on residential doors that are no higher than 7 ft. Tall.
- PACKING INCLUDED : One pair of Garage Door Extension Springs, One pair of Non-Slip Gloves, and Installation Instructions are included in the package, so you can start installing immediately after receiving the product.
- DOUBLE LOOP ENDS : They are more sturdy than open loops, as there are two coils of the spring that connect to the eye-bolt and the pulley. We currently only offer double looped ends as we believe this is the best replacement option available (You can replace any end type with double looped).
- HIGH QUALITY : Made from professional ASTM-A228 spring steel coils that have been heat-treated to ensure they have extremely high durability. The latest electrophoretic coating technology offers excellent corrosion resistance and excellent tensile properties. Salt spray testing lasts up to 300 hours with a minimum of 16,000 cycles (a cycle is 1 open & close of the door). You NEVER need to maintain the spring and keep your hands clean during installation.
- IMPORTANT : YoToolGDS highly recommend that you replace springs in pairs. Typically both springs are of the same age and wear, since one has broken, typically the second spring will reach the end of it’s cycle life and also break soon. The newer spring will have more pull than an older spring and this will cause the door to open and close with an unequal amount of pull on both sides and that can cause damage to the door, the garage door opener and is unsafe.
Location and installation complexity
National estimates cannot pin down your local price. Angi identifies location, crew size, project complexity, and added features as factors affecting labor. A custom opening or work beyond a straightforward replacement can change the scope. Get estimates from local installers using the same specifications and list of included work.
Quick Recap
How to budget and compare quotes
- Measure the actual opening. Angi’s buying guide says a standard single door is generally 8–9 feet wide and 7–8 feet tall, while a double door is about 16 feet wide. These are general dimensions; measure the framed opening rather than relying on a typical size. Angi’s garage door buying guide explains what to consider.
- Choose the specifications before comparing prices. Decide on size and configuration, material, insulation, windows and finish, and whether you need an opener. A door-only price is not comparable to an installed replacement with removal, tracks, and hardware.
- Request itemized estimates on the same scope. Ask each installer to identify the door, labor, opener and compatibility, tracks and hardware, removal and disposal, permit assumptions, warranty, and any included framing work. Ask how additional repairs will be priced and approved if damage is found after removal.
- Separate essentials from upgrades. Angi expert reviewer Bob Tschudi, an Angi Expert Review Board member and Raleigh-based general contractor, recommends starting with a standard, no-frills door and opener when the budget is tight, so spending can go toward features that are harder to change later. Compare optional styling and smart features against your budget after you have priced the core installation.
- Use qualified installation help. Angi warns that garage-door springs are under high tension and can cause serious injury if mishandled; it recommends professional replacement for safe handling and proper alignment. Do not treat spring work as a casual DIY task. Angi also suggests comparing estimates from a few contractors.
