The available controls differ: Photoshop can hide an AI workspace or change one tool’s behavior, Canva lets eligible organization administrators restrict named features, and Microsoft documents a Windows policy for Paint’s Image Creator. The steps below explain what each option does—and what it does not do.
Choose the control that matches what you want to stop
“Disable AI” can mean hiding a shortcut, changing how a particular tool works, or restricting access for a group of users. Those outcomes are not interchangeable. Check your app version, platform, account type, and administrator access before following a route.

Adobe Photoshop: hide the AI workspace or change one tool
Hide AI Assisted Editor
- Open Photoshop’s Preferences.
- Select Interface.
- Deselect Show AI Assisted Editor.
This hides the AI Assisted Editor toggle; it does not disable Photoshop’s other generative features. Adobe describes AI Assisted Editor as an optional, prompt-based workspace in its Photoshop desktop FAQ, updated September 29, 2026.
Use the Remove Tool without generative AI
When the option is available, open the Remove Tool’s options and choose Generative AI Off. This is a setting for the Remove Tool only. It does not turn off Generative Fill, Generative Expand, or Generate Image.

An Adobe Community Manager stated on August 27, 2026, that “Photoshop doesn’t currently have a global ‘AI Off’ or ‘AI-Free’ setting.” The same response describes the Remove Tool option, not a way to remove or disable every generative feature. Canva: restrict named features for an organization
Canva owners and administrators on Canva Teams, Canva Business, Canva Enterprise, and Canva Education can manage access to named Magic and AI features. Canva Teams is no longer available for new sign-ups or upgrades, though existing Teams subscribers retain the cited guidance.

- Open Profile > Settings.
- Go to Controls and permissions > Permissions > Magic and AI.
- Choose who can access the listed features.
The list includes Magic Media, Magic Edit, Magic Design, Dream Lab, Canva AI, and other tools. This is an organization-level permission control, not a documented universal off switch for an individual free or Pro account. Canva’s Magic and AI access-control guidance says changes apply to new designs; features already used may remain available in existing designs. Availability may also depend on language and region.
For Canva Education, administrators and teachers have access by default. Canva notes that further administrator controls for turning student AI access on or off are planned; the cited guidance does not establish that those controls are already available.

Where Magic Media appears
Magic Media generates images, graphics, and videos. Canva says it is available in the editor’s side panel or under Apps. That identifies the feature’s location, but does not establish a personal global disable control. See Canva’s Magic Media help page.
Microsoft Paint: a Windows policy controls Image Creator
Microsoft documents the Windows policy DisableImageCreator as controlling whether Image Creator functionality is disabled in Paint. This is policy-level guidance, not evidence of an in-app switch for an unmanaged personal device.

The available Microsoft reference does not establish supported Windows editions or step-by-step configuration instructions. If your device is managed by an organization, ask its administrator whether this policy is applicable and how it should be configured. Consult Microsoft’s WindowsAI Policy CSP reference for the policy details that Microsoft publishes.

These controls are specific to the named apps and do not establish how to disable image generation in other software, including Procreate. Check the app maker’s current documentation for a control that matches your platform and account before relying on a setting found for another product.
