The period’s largest reported figure was up to $2.1 billion for the sale of Synopsys’ Software Integrity Group; Akamai separately disclosed a roughly $450 million price for Noname Security. Deals also spanned threat hunting, fraud prevention, identity and API management, penetration testing, and external cyber risk. Several reported values describe a valuation or a maximum, not necessarily cash paid at closing.
Which cybersecurity deals were announced or completed May 1–15, 2024?
The table separates announced agreements from completed acquisitions. Reported financial figures are not directly comparable: they include a valuation, a value described as more than a stated amount, a maximum transaction value, and a disclosed purchase price. Where no consideration was disclosed in the cited transaction roundup, the table says so.
| Date | Transaction and status | Subsector | Reported consideration or value | Buyer type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| May 1 | Intel 471 acquired Cyborg Security. | Cyber threat intelligence and threat hunting | Not disclosed in the cited announcement. | Strategic acquirer |
| May 2 | Permira agreed to acquire a majority stake in BioCatch. | Behavioral biometrics, digital fraud and financial-crime prevention | $1.3 billion valuation, as reported by CybersecurityHQ Dispatch (2024); this is a valuation, not a stated cash purchase price. | Private equity |
| May 4 | EQT agreed to acquire WSO2. | API management and identity management | More than $600 million, as reported by CybersecurityHQ Dispatch (2024); the cited roundup does not specify the figure’s basis. | Private equity |
| May 7 | Akamai announced a definitive agreement to acquire Noname Security. | API security | Approximately $450 million, disclosed by Akamai Technologies (2024). | Strategic acquirer |
| May 7 | HelpSystems acquired Beyond Security. | Cybersecurity; the cited transaction table does not state a narrower category. | Undisclosed, according to CybersecurityHQ Dispatch (2024). | Strategic acquirer |
| May 7 | Clearlake Capital and Francisco Partners acquired Synopsys’ Software Integrity Group. | Application and software security | Up to $2.1 billion, as reported by CybersecurityHQ Dispatch (2024); “up to” is a ceiling, not a confirmed amount paid. | Private-equity sponsors |
| May 8 | TELUS acquired Vumetric Cybersecurity. | Penetration testing | Undisclosed, according to CybersecurityHQ Dispatch (2024). | Strategic acquirer |
| May 13 | Haveli Investments completed its acquisition of ZeroFox. | External attack-surface management, digital risk, threat intelligence and response | ZeroFox said stockholders would receive $1.14 per share in cash (ZeroFox, 2024). | Private equity; take-private |
What do the reported deal values mean?
The figures should be read according to their wording rather than ranked as though every deal disclosed a comparable purchase price. Akamai disclosed an approximate purchase price for Noname. ZeroFox described the cash per-share consideration to stockholders. BioCatch’s reported $1.3 billion is a valuation, WSO2’s reported figure is “more than” $600 million, and the Software Integrity Group figure is “up to” $2.1 billion. The cited transaction table does not explain the basis of the WSO2 figure, and the “up to” amount is not evidence that the maximum was paid.
For Beyond Security and Vumetric, the cited transaction roundup lists consideration as undisclosed. Intel 471’s announcement, as summarized for its Cyborg Security acquisition, provides no deal value. No first-half total transaction value can be calculated from these disclosures.

Which security subsectors attracted buyers?
API security, management and identity
Akamai’s agreement for Noname was the period’s clearest dedicated API-security deal. Akamai said the combination was intended to improve API discovery, vulnerability and attack detection, and deployment flexibility; more than 200 Noname employees were expected to join Akamai. Akamai executive Mani Sundaram also cited company data showing 109% year-over-year growth in API attacks. That is Akamai’s own reported measure; the announcement summary does not establish a broader industry-wide rate.
WSO2 added a different API-related angle: the company provides API management as well as identity management. Its agreement with EQT therefore sits across infrastructure and identity rather than representing the same kind of specialist API-security acquisition as Noname.
Threat intelligence and threat hunting
Intel 471 said Cyborg Security’s HUNTER Platform and threat-hunting capabilities would extend its cyber-threat-intelligence portfolio. The acquisition reflects a strategic product fit between threat intelligence and the work of finding and investigating suspicious activity, rather than a disclosed transaction value. Cyborg Security was founded in 2019.
Fraud, software integrity and penetration testing
Permira’s majority-stake agreement for BioCatch brought behavioral biometrics and digital-fraud and financial-crime prevention into the period’s private-equity activity. The Synopsys Software Integrity Group transaction covered application and software security. TELUS’s acquisition of Vumetric added penetration-testing capability; the cited transaction table identifies that capability as the strategic rationale.

External cyber risk
ZeroFox described its platform as combining external attack-surface management, digital-risk and privacy protection, threat intelligence, and breach, incident and takedown response. That broader external-risk portfolio changed ownership through a completed take-private rather than a strategic product acquisition by an operating cybersecurity company.
Which deals changed public-market status?
ZeroFox’s acquisition by Haveli was completed on May 13. ZeroFox said its common stockholders would receive $1.14 per share in cash; the company’s common stock and warrants ceased trading, and ZeroFox was delisted from Nasdaq. This is distinct from the other listed transactions: the cited information describes them as acquisitions or agreements but does not identify a comparable public-listing change.

What does this first-half roundup not show?
SecurityWeek reported 28 cybersecurity deals for all of May 2024. That is a full-month count, not a May 1–15 total, and it should not be used to infer how many deals occurred in this roundup’s two-week window.
