Altran did not simply merge a separately reported “embedded operations” division into another company. It strengthened embedded software and IoT capabilities through acquisitions, then was acquired by Capgemini. Capgemini completed its takeover on April 15, 2020, and Altran ceased to operate as an independent listed company.

Was Altran acquired by Capgemini?

Yes. Capgemini and Altran announced exclusive negotiations for a friendly cash tender offer on June 24, 2019. Capgemini initially offered €14 per share; on January 14, 2020, it raised the offer to €14.50 per share. The 2019 announcement put the cash consideration at €3.6 billion, excluding approximately €1.4 billion in net financial debt. Capgemini’s announcement and transaction updates provide the terms.

Capgemini completed the squeeze-out on April 15, 2020, reaching 100% ownership of Altran. Altran had announced on April 2 that it would cease to be independent and be delisted, with its performance integrated into Capgemini’s reporting. Altran’s completion announcement describes the change.

What happened to Altran’s embedded software and IoT capabilities?

GlobalEdge added embedded and connectivity expertise

Altran completed its acquisition of GlobalEdge Software in September 2017. GlobalEdge, an India-based product-engineering company, specialized in embedded software and IoT solutions. Altran said the acquisition expanded its embedded and connectivity capabilities, strengthened delivery in India, and added commercial reach in North America. Altran’s GlobalEdge announcement documents the deal.

Aricent expanded the engineering network

Altran finalized its acquisition of Aricent on March 20, 2018. Altran’s 2019 registration document says Aricent’s Indian teams were integrated into Altran Global Engineering Centers, creating a network of more than 17,500 engineers across five centers. This was a broader engineering integration, not a published standalone headcount for embedded operations. Altran’s Aricent integration information describes the network.

Was “embedded operations” a separately reported business?

Public figures cited for Altran cover the company as a whole, not an embedded-operations segment. Altran reported €3.2 billion in revenue in 2019 and more than 50,000 employees in over 30 countries in 2020. Those company-wide numbers should not be treated as embedded revenue or headcount: no standalone embedded-operations figure is published in the cited announcements and registration document.

The documented picture is therefore of embedded software, connectivity and IoT capabilities within Altran’s wider engineering business, strengthened by acquisitions and later carried into Capgemini when it acquired Altran. Altran’s chairman and CEO, Dominique Cerutti, called the Capgemini transaction a turning point that would create a world leader in “Intelligent Industry” and support companies’ digital transformation. Altran’s announcement records his statement.
