Status: expired. Google’s September 2024 “final call” promotion offered up to $760 in trade-in credit toward a Pixel 9-series phone, including the Pixel 9 Pro. The deadline was September 30, 2024, so this is a historical offer—not a discount available now. The maximum was for an original Google Pixel Fold in qualifying condition, not a universal price cut.
What Google’s $760 Pixel trade-in deal actually offered
A contemporaneous report published September 25, 2024, said Google extended its launch-period trade-in promotion through September 30. The reported offer applied to the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, with the same listed trade-in values regardless of which of those phones a customer chose. The $760 figure was the maximum estimated trade-in value for an original Pixel Fold, subject to inspection—not $760 off for every buyer. Droid Life’s September 2024 report contains the historical offer details.
Which phones were reported to qualify for the highest values?
The following were the promotional values reported in September 2024. They were estimates tied to a trade-in toward the Pixel 9 family, not guaranteed cash payouts; the final value depended on the device received and its inspected condition.
| Trade-in phone | Reported promotional value |
|---|---|
| Original Google Pixel Fold | $760 |
| Google Pixel 8 Pro | $699 |
| Google Pixel 7 Pro | $540 |
| Google Pixel 8 | $490 |
| Google Pixel 6 Pro | $450 |
| Google Pixel 7 | $360 |
These figures describe the reported September 2024 offer only. They do not establish current Google Store trade-in values.

Could the Pixel 9 Pro really have cost $239?
For the 128GB Pixel 9 Pro, the reported $999 listed price minus the maximum $760 trade-in value came to $239 before tax. That was an effective cost after an approved trade-in, not the checkout price and not a price available to someone without a qualifying original Pixel Fold.
$999 listed price − $760 approved trade-in = $239 before tax.

The calculation also leaves out the value the old Fold might have brought in a private sale and any reduction if inspection found its model or condition differed from what the customer submitted.
Was the trade-in credit an instant discount?
The September 2024 report described the standard process: the customer bought the new phone, then sent in the old one for inspection before receiving the approved credit or refund. Google’s current U.S. guidance still distinguishes standard trade-ins, credited after receipt and inspection, from instant trade-ins, which are limited to selected eligible customers. The current rules should not be assumed to reproduce every term of the expired promotion. See Google’s trade-in and refund guidance.

How the standard trade-in process works now
- Choose the new phone and enter the old phone’s details. Google provides an estimated value based on the model and the condition information supplied.
- Pay for the new device. For a standard trade-in, do not assume the estimate reduces the amount charged at checkout.
- Back up and prepare the old phone. Remove account locks and passcodes, transfer any data you need, and factory-reset the device before shipping it.
- Send it using the provided trade-in materials. Google’s current U.S. guidance says the trade-in device generally must arrive within 30 days of receiving the new device.
- Wait for inspection and the final value. Google’s current guidance says inspection generally takes about five business days after receipt. A card refund can take up to 14 business days to appear after it is issued; those are current guidance timelines, not a guarantee about the 2024 offer.
Google’s current trade-in pages say a purchase is generally limited to one trade-in. If the approved trade-in value exceeds the new phone’s price, Google says the excess is issued as Google Store credit rather than cash. Current steps and requirements are described on Google Store’s U.S. trade-in page.
Condition, timing, and payment risks
- Inspection can change the estimate. A cracked screen, nonworking feature, incorrect model or storage selection, or condition that differs from the description can reduce or eliminate the credit. Photograph the phone’s condition and retain shipping records before sending it.
- Locks and personal data matter. A device that is not factory-reset or still has an active account lock or passcode may be rejected. Back up data and remove applicable Google or Apple account locks before shipment.
- Some devices may be rejected outright. Google’s current trade-in information identifies devices that do not power on, are reported lost or stolen, or are counterfeit as problems. Damaged or swollen batteries may be rejected and may not be returned for safety and regulatory reasons.
- A financed old phone is still your responsibility. Trading it in does not necessarily pay off its loan; Google says remaining payments on a financed trade-in device remain the customer’s responsibility.
- Late shipment can have consequences. Under current instant-trade-in guidance, missing the return window can result in a charge for credit already applied. With a standard trade-in, a delay may also affect the estimated value.
- Plan for the cash-flow gap. A standard trade-in can mean paying first and waiting for inspection and refund. Sales tax is generally calculated at checkout before a later trade-in refund, but tax treatment can vary by jurisdiction and transaction structure.
Who would have benefited most—and who might have skipped it?
Best fit for the historical offer
- An owner of an original Pixel Fold in accurately described, qualifying condition.
- A shopper who wanted a Pixel 9-series phone and could pay the purchase amount before the trade-in refund arrived.
- A buyer who preferred the Google Store trade-in route and valued its convenience over seeking a potentially higher private-sale price.
Reasons to compare alternatives
- A damaged, locked, financed, or condition-uncertain phone made the headline estimate less dependable.
- A private sale might bring in more, but it requires listing the phone, handling buyer communications and payment, and arranging a handoff or shipment.
- Someone who needed an immediate discount rather than a later refund might not have found the standard process suitable.
- A carrier promotion is a separate comparison: advertised credits may be spread across monthly bills and depend on plan, activation, financing, or other conditions. Those terms are not part of Google’s 2024 offer.
Is the $760 Pixel 9 offer available today?
No. The reported promotion ended September 30, 2024. As of August 18, 2026, the historical $760 amount and $239 calculation should not be treated as a live Google Store deal. For current trade-in estimates, check Google Store’s current trade-in page; the September 2024 offer does not establish today’s values.
