RevEng.ai announced a $4.15 million seed round on June 26, 2025. Sands Capital led the financing, joined by In-Q-Tel Capital, IQ Capital and Episode 1. The company said it would use the money to improve its AI models, hire and expand its U.S. offering. A later company announcement reported a $15 million Series A in May 2026, so the seed round is now one step in a larger funding history.

Who invested in RevEng.ai’s $4.15 million seed round?

The June 26, 2025 announcement named Sands Capital as lead investor. In-Q-Tel Capital, IQ Capital and Episode 1 also participated. RevEng.ai said the proceeds would support model development, team growth and expansion of its U.S. offering. Company announcement

What does RevEng.ai do?

RevEng.ai develops AI for reverse engineering and binary analysis. Rather than requiring access to a software project’s source code, its stated approach examines compiled binaries and released software directly. That can matter when an organization needs to assess third-party, closed-source or already-deployed software whose underlying code it cannot inspect.

The company says its goal is to help security teams identify hidden backdoors, malicious components, vulnerabilities and unexpected behavior in software. Founder and CEO James Patrick-Evans described the aim as automating analysis of released software so analysts can verify supply-chain integrity without source-code access. What is BinNet?

BinNet is RevEng.ai’s flagship model, which the company describes as designed to understand code fragments and software behavior inside compiled artifacts. It is part of the company’s broader effort to build foundational AI models for binary analysis, rather than a general-purpose AI assistant. Company about page RevEng.ai technology information

SecurityWeek reported that the platform supports Linux, Windows and Android, and can automate YARA-rule creation. Those are reported product capabilities, not independently verified benchmark results. SecurityWeek coverage

How is binary analysis different from source-code security tools?

Many application-security tools inspect source repositories, development workflows or declared software dependencies. RevEng.ai’s stated distinction is the inspection layer: it analyzes compiled files and released artifacts. That makes the approach potentially useful before an organization procures or deploys software, including when the vendor does not provide source code.

  • What is inspected: compiled binaries and released artifacts, rather than only source code or package metadata.
  • When it may help: evaluating software before procurement, deployment or an update, as well as investigating suspicious behavior.
  • What it is meant to surface: hidden malicious functionality, vulnerabilities and unexpected components.

These goals do not establish that the system finds every vulnerability or replaces other security controls. Organizations assessing the product would still need to confirm supported file types, integrations, deployment options, data handling and the evidence it provides for their own assurance or compliance needs.

Is RevEng.ai still independent after the funding?

The seed announcement was a financing round, not an acquisition. A company release dated May 27, 2026 reported a $15 million Series A led by NATO Innovation Fund, with Sands Capital, In-Q-Tel, IQ Capital and Episode One participating. That announcement described the company’s work as a binary-native verification layer for software that is shipped, purchased, deployed and generated with AI. The release reports new funding; it does not say RevEng.ai was acquired. RevEng.ai Series A announcement
