On May 15, 2024, Modak announced iOS and Android apps for a Web3 social platform built around persistent video rooms called “Campfires” and a proposed $WOOD reward system. The announcement described an app launch after a December 2023 testnet, but it does not establish that the Web3 app is still available in 2026. Current Apple results under the Modak name point to a kids-and-teens banking app, so readers should verify the product’s identity before downloading anything or treating rewards as money.
What Modak announced in May 2024
Modak’s May 15, 2024 announcement described the project as a SocialFi app combining casual video conversations with token incentives. It said a testnet had taken place in December 2023 and that mobile apps for iOS and Android were launching afterward. The announcement characterized availability as worldwide; that is the project’s claim, not independent confirmation of app-store availability in every country. Read the May 2024 launch announcement.
The announcement supports that Modak promoted an app launch and described its intended features. It does not, by itself, establish a full production release, the apps’ versions or technical requirements, or whether every announced feature was deployed. Nor does describing a product as Web3 establish that its video calls or room infrastructure were decentralized.
How Campfire rooms were supposed to work
“Campfires” were presented as persistent, interest-based spaces where people could drop into group video conversations. Unlike a scheduled work meeting, the concept was closer to an online forum with a live hangout attached: a room about music, travel, Web3, or technology could remain available when nobody was there, so members could return and resume conversations later.

- Users were said to be able to join or create rooms.
- Camera and microphone controls were described, allowing people to take part without always appearing on camera or speaking.
- Language filters were mentioned as a way to find conversations suited to users’ preferences.
These are features described in launch coverage, not independently verified performance or privacy guarantees. In particular, a Web3 label does not prove that calls were end-to-end encrypted, that video was stored on a blockchain, or that the service had no central operator.
How Speak-to-Earn and $WOOD were intended to work
Modak’s April 2024 FAQ described $WOOD as the platform’s native ecosystem token and framed rewards around participation and contribution—not simply time spent in a call. It listed sharing perspectives, active engagement, constructive feedback, video-chat participation, and hosting events or meetups among the activities associated with rewards. Read Modak’s FAQ.

- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
The distinction matters: “Speak-to-Earn” was an incentive design, not proof that speech quality was objectively measured or that a user would earn a predictable amount. The available FAQ does not establish a guaranteed payout, a cash value, or a method for converting rewards into money.
What $WOOD was meant to do
The FAQ described several intended ecosystem uses:
- Tip speakers or show appreciation for useful contributions.
- Promote events and initiatives.
- Buy or participate in unique-item marketplace activity.
- Take part in governance-related decisions.
These were proposed uses in Modak’s documentation. The available sources do not establish a blockchain, token contract address, supply or issuance schedule, exchange listing, external transferability, or fiat redemption. Do not treat a displayed or promised $WOOD reward as equivalent to cash, a bank balance, or a stablecoin.

What the launch airdrop did—and did not—specify
The launch announcement promoted an airdrop campaign tied to joining the community, sharing the app, and using its features. It did not provide verified campaign terms sufficient to determine reward amounts, eligibility, geographic limits, wallet requirements, vesting, expiration, anti-sybil rules, or whether rewards were on-chain tokens rather than internal points.
That missing detail limits what a prospective participant can responsibly infer. An airdrop promotion is not evidence of recurring income, a liquid token, or a reward that can be withdrawn.

What is known about the team and launch evidence
The launch material attributed experience in VoIP, WebRTC, mobile games, and blockchain technologies to the team. That description is attributable to the announcement; the sources available here do not independently verify individual team members, their work histories, funding, investors, corporate registration, audits, or security reviews. They also do not establish the exact relationship between Modak and La Onda, which was named as a media contact.
The clearest evidence for the original product is therefore contemporaneous promotional coverage and Modak’s own FAQ, last updated in April 2024. The FAQ is useful for documenting how the project described its token and reward model at the time, but it cannot confirm that the service or those features remain operational now.

Is the Web3 app still available in 2026?
As of August 18, 2026, current app-store evidence does not clearly confirm that the original Web3 video-call app remains available. Apple’s U.S. Modak developer page and listing point to Modak: Kids & Teens Banking, a banking product, rather than an identifiable Web3 video app. Its App Store listing identifies Modak Communities Operating Holdings Inc. as seller and requires iOS 15.6 or later; those details apply to the banking app, not the 2024 Web3 product.
A Google Play developer result for Modak Live does not provide enough evidence to establish whether the original Web3 app is currently live, renamed, delisted, or unrelated. The available evidence does not justify saying that the Web3 app has shut down—but it also does not verify current availability.
This is a significant identity problem for anyone searching app stores: do not download the kids-and-teens banking app expecting Campfire rooms or $WOOD. The existence of a current product named Modak does not establish that it is the same project as Modak Town or Modak Live. The original project’s website, modak.town, was supplied in the 2024 launch material, but current operation and signup availability have not been verified.
What to verify before joining or connecting a wallet
Because the app’s present status and token mechanics are unresolved, check the following directly through a confirmed official channel before sharing personal information or authorizing a wallet transaction:
- Product identity: Confirm that an app or website is operated by the Web3 video project, not a similarly named business.
- Availability: Check that the app-store link is current, works in your country, and describes Campfire or the Web3 service.
- Token terms: Look for a published contract address, issuance and distribution rules, transferability, and any withdrawal process. Do not assume a token is valuable or cashable.
- Privacy: Find out what voice, video, chat, wallet, device, and identity data the service collects, and whether calls are recorded, transcribed, moderated, or analyzed.
- Safety and age rules: Check moderation and reporting procedures, protections against harassment and scams, and eligibility requirements.
- Reward integrity: Understand how the service handles spam, multiple accounts, and attempts to farm rewards; vague promises about “meaningful” contributions do not explain how decisions are made.
These are material questions for any live-video service offering token incentives. Rewards can be speculative, illiquid, restricted by location, taxable, or changed under platform rules; “earn” should not be read as a promise of reliable income. The available sources do not establish Modak’s current privacy, moderation, age, or token policies.
