Meta said it would use people’s interactions with its generative AI features to personalize both ads and other recommendations across its platforms. The change was scheduled to take effect on December 16, 2025. In practical terms, a conversation with Meta AI about hiking could be followed by hiking-related posts, groups or ads.
How AI chats can influence what Meta shows you
Meta describes AI interactions as an additional personalization signal, alongside other activity it says has long informed recommendations and ads. The signal can come from text exchanges or voice chats with its AI features, and recommendations can include both paid ads and organic content such as posts and reels.
Meta’s example is a person discussing hiking with Meta AI and later seeing recommendations for hiking groups, trail posts or hiking boots. That illustrates the possible connection; it is not evidence of how often the system makes that connection or a guarantee that a particular conversation will produce a particular ad.
Meta reported more than 1 billion monthly users of Meta AI in its October 2025 announcement. That is the company’s figure, not an independently verified measurement. Meta’s announcement framed the change as improving personalized recommendations.

When the change took effect
Meta said it would begin notifying people on October 7, 2025, ahead of a planned start date of December 16, 2025. The company described the rollout as applying in most regions and said it hoped to offer the experience everywhere soon. Its announcement did not give a complete list of included or excluded regions, so availability in a particular location should not be assumed from that description.
What you can control—and what the controls do not establish
Meta points to Ads Preferences and other feed controls for adjusting the ads and content a person sees. The company’s statement was: “With tools like Ads Preferences and other feed controls, you can adjust the content and ads you see at any time.” Those controls address what appears in your feeds; the cited announcement does not describe a dedicated opt-out that stops AI interactions from being used as a personalization signal.

- Superior Shielding Performance：Made of high-purity metal fiber inner fabric, this Single Pack EMF blocker sleeve reduces up to 99% harmful EMF, RF, WiFi, GPS and RFID radiation. It retains normal calling and texting functions, balancing daily use and health protection, relieving concerns from long-term electromagnetic exposure
- Wide Compatibility & Portable：Universal 8x4 inch size with drawstring closure fits most mainstream smartphones (iPhone, Samsung, etc.), even with protective cases. Slim and lightweight, easy to carry in pockets or bags, perfect for office, travel and daily use, ensuring quick access
- Privacy & Electromagnetic Protection：Multi-functional design integrates EMF isolation, anti-tracking and RFID protection, preventing location tracking and data leakage. Durable stitching and premium fabric ensure wear resistance, suitable for long-term repeated daily use without deformation
- Clear Testing Guidance：Easy to test: Use an EMF meter to compare radiation values inside/outside the pouch for intuitive verification. Note: It’s for radiation reduction, not call blocking; making calls inside is not a valid test method to avoid misunderstanding
That distinction matters: changing ad preferences may affect the ads displayed, but Meta’s description does not establish that the underlying AI-interaction signal is no longer used. For its stated controls, see Meta Ads Preferences.

This is Meta’s stated limit on using these topics to show ads. It should not be read as a broader claim that Meta never processes such information for any purpose.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How linked accounts affect cross-account personalization
Meta says it uses information across Meta Company Products for accounts a person chooses to add to the same Accounts Center. It gives WhatsApp as an example: if a WhatsApp account is not added to an Accounts Center, Meta says interactions with WhatsApp AI will not be used to personalize experiences across that person’s accounts on Meta products.
