Samsung Money by SoFi is an active U.S. cash-management account that pairs Samsung Wallet access with a debit card and cash held through a brokerage sweep program. It is not a bank account offered by Samsung or SoFi Bank: SoFi Securities LLC offers the product, and cash may be swept to program banks for potential FDIC insurance. It can suit Samsung Wallet users who want a mobile-first account, but the rate is variable, some transfers cost extra, and the product should not be confused with SoFi Checking and Savings.
What Samsung Money by SoFi is—and is not
Samsung Money by SoFi is a cash-management account offered by SoFi Securities LLC through its partnership with Samsung. It comes with a Samsung Money by SoFi World Debit Mastercard and is integrated with Samsung Wallet. Account holders can also access it through the SoFi app or website. The product is not a conventional deposit account directly offered by Samsung, nor is it the same account as SoFi Checking and Savings. SoFi’s account description explains the product structure.
Cash in the account is swept to one or more program banks through the SoFi Money Sweep Program. That cash may be eligible for FDIC insurance, subject to program terms, applicable ownership categories, and your other deposits at the banks involved. Check the current program disclosures to understand how coverage applies to your balances; FDIC eligibility is not an unconditional guarantee that every dollar is covered. FDIC insurance is also distinct from SIPC protection.

How to fund and use the account
Direct deposit and external transfers
You can add funds through direct deposit or by transferring from a linked external bank account. Link and confirm the external account before starting a transfer. Do not treat an incoming ACH transfer as spendable until it is posted and available; timing can vary. If you need reliable access to payroll funds, set up direct deposit only after confirming the account details and keeping another payment option available during the changeover.
Rank #3
Mobile check deposits
Mobile check deposit is supported. SoFi says a deposit may appear in the account within one to two business days, but availability can take one to five business days depending on factors such as check amount and account history. Posting is not the same as funds being available to spend. If a deposit is delayed, review the endorsement, acceptance or hold notice, any applicable deposit limits, and the stated availability date. Avoid depositing a check here if you need the money for an urgent payment before the hold period ends.
Debit card, wallet, and ATM use
The account’s card is designed for purchases and ATM withdrawals, while Samsung Wallet provides the integrated digital-card experience. Allpoint ATM withdrawals avoid a Samsung Money ATM fee, but an unrelated ATM operator can still impose a charge. Look for an Allpoint location before withdrawing cash if avoiding operator fees matters.

Samsung’s FAQ says a physical card can be activated by tapping it to the back of the phone. If the phone does not detect it, remove a case or card holder, check that NFC is enabled, and try the correct area for your model; Galaxy Flip devices may have model-specific instructions.
Access through SoFi
Existing customers can use Samsung Wallet or sign in to the SoFi app or website. For first-time SoFi access, use the email associated with Samsung Money. In the SoFi app, choose Log in with email, select Forgot password?, enter that email, and follow the reset link to create a password. The first-login instructions cover the process. SoFi’s app and website are useful for account management and transfers; Samsung Wallet is the product’s distinctive wallet integration. A change to a non-Samsung phone may affect wallet functions, so check current device support rather than assuming every wallet feature transfers.

Standard and instant transfers
Standard transfers and eligible instant transfers are different options. For a Samsung Money account, SoFi documents this instant-transfer path:
- Log in through the SoFi app or website.
- Open the Banking tab.
- Select Transfer, then Transfer Money.
- Choose the linked accounts under From and To.
- Select the instant option if it is offered for that transfer.
The instant option is limited to eligible linked accounts and transactions, and a fee may apply. If it is not shown, use the standard transfer option or check the Samsung Money transfer instructions. A newly linked, pending, or held account may not qualify.

These are separate products with different account structures and terms. SoFi Checking and Savings is a bank account product; Samsung Money is the brokerage cash-management account described above. Do not assume that SoFi features or rates automatically apply to Samsung Money holders.

SoFi’s legacy SoFi Money account is another distinct product: a statement that legacy SoFi Money no longer earns interest should not be applied automatically to Samsung Money. Check the account-specific terms before considering any conversion or upgrade. The legacy SoFi Money APY page addresses that older account.

It may suit you if
- You use a Samsung Galaxy phone and already rely on Samsung Wallet.
- You want a debit card and cash-management account within a mobile-first experience.
- You are comfortable with a variable rate and can verify it before deciding where to keep savings.
- You can use Allpoint ATMs and do not need branch service.
- You want SoFi app or web access alongside the Samsung integration.
Consider another account if
- You need branch banking, regular cash deposits, or a business or trust account.
- You frequently use out-of-network ATMs or need a fixed interest rate.
- You need conventional bank-account features that are not confirmed for Samsung Money specifically.
- You primarily use a non-Samsung phone and want a platform-neutral wallet experience.
- You are uncomfortable with a brokerage cash-management and sweep structure.
SoFi Checking and Savings may be more appropriate if you want a broader SoFi banking relationship. Ally’s online savings account is an option for people seeking savings tools outside Samsung Wallet; read its live rate and terms. Capital One 360 Checking may suit those seeking a conventional online checking account with eligible cash-deposit options and a broader banking ecosystem; its checking account page lists no monthly service charge or minimum balance to open or maintain. These alternatives serve different needs, so compare live rates, deposit access, fees, and features rather than treating them as interchangeable.
Quick Recap
Before you open or keep the account
- Check the live Samsung Money APY and its effective date; the support page’s cited 3.30% rate is dated December 23, 2025, not a guaranteed rate for today.
- Read the current fee sheet, including the version effective May 6, 2026, for charges beyond routine account fees.
- Confirm your eligibility, the current device and Wallet requirements, and whether individual or joint ownership meets your needs.
- Locate nearby Allpoint ATMs and understand potential operator charges elsewhere.
- Review sweep-program disclosures and your total deposits at relevant program banks when assessing FDIC coverage.
- Confirm that any feature you need—such as cash deposits, check-writing, overdraft coverage, or a particular transfer method—is available on Samsung Money itself.
