Bloomberg estimated Selena Gomez’s net worth at $1.3 billion in September 2024, according to TIME’s report on the index addition. That dated estimate was driven largely by Rare Beauty’s estimated value—not by $1.3 billion in cash or a public, audited accounting of Gomez’s personal finances. Reporting available here does not establish a newer independently sourced figure for 2026.
How much is Selena Gomez worth, according to Bloomberg?
Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index placed Gomez’s estimated net worth at $1.3 billion in September 2024. TIME and Fortune both attributed the figure to Bloomberg. It is best understood as a valuation-based estimate: much of it depends on the estimated value of Gomez’s stake in privately held Rare Beauty, whose full ownership details are not public.
That distinction matters. A net-worth estimate can include the estimated value of a business interest and other assets; it is not the same as cash available in a bank account. The sources do not provide an audited personal balance sheet, complete private-company ownership records, or a verified current estimate for 2026.
Why Rare Beauty accounts for so much of the estimate
Rare Beauty is the largest reported contributor to the $1.3 billion estimate. TIME said roughly 81% of the estimate was connected to the brand. Fortune, summarizing Bloomberg’s estimate, put the share at roughly 84%, or about $1.1 billion. Those percentages differ, so they should be treated as outlet-specific approximations—not as a precise, independently confirmed ownership calculation.

The company’s sales help explain its prominence, but sales are not the same as profit, the brand’s valuation, or Gomez’s personal income.
- Product sales: TIME reported that Rare Beauty’s $23 Soft Pinch Liquid Blush, described as its most popular product, generated $70 million in sales during 2023. That is a product-sales figure, not the amount Gomez personally earned.
- Company sales: In a May 2024 profile, TIME reported $400 million in Rare Beauty sales for the 12 months ending that month, citing company information. The same profile described year-on-year growth of 100% from 2021 to 2022 and 200% the following year. Revenue and growth do not, by themselves, establish profit or company value.
These numbers are useful context for the brand’s reach, not a formula for calculating Gomez’s wealth. A company’s sales do not tell readers how much of its revenue becomes profit, what a buyer would pay for it, or what portion of its value belongs to any one shareholder.

Was Rare Beauty sold for $2 billion?
No completed $2 billion sale is established by the 2024 reporting. Bloomberg reported in March 2024 that Rare Beauty had hired advisers to assess interest from potential investors or buyers. The account was based on people familiar with private discussions; Rare Beauty representatives and Gomez declined to comment.
Axios reported on September 10, 2024 that the process was on hold and described $2 billion as a target valuation. Its sources said the company was not yet worth that target, and the article noted that the ownership picture beyond Gomez being the largest shareholder was unclear. A proposed target is not a transaction price, and it does not mean Gomez received a $2 billion payout.

In TIME’s May 2024 profile, Gomez said of a possible sale, “I don’t have any plans on that, genuinely.” That was her position at the time of the interview, not an update on the company’s current plans.

Reporting on Bloomberg’s analysis also identified acting, music, brand partnerships, streaming, concert tickets, properties, and an interest in Wondermind among Gomez’s other wealth sources. Fortune’s summary said tours accounted for less than 5% of the estimate and album and record sales for less than 2%. Those figures indicate that her entertainment work contributes to a much smaller share of the reported total than Rare Beauty.
Rank #4
TIME’s May profile also quoted Gomez saying, “I never wanted it to be about making a lot of money and that’s it.” The quote reflects her stated motivation for the business; it does not change what the estimate measures.

How to read the $1.3 billion figure
- Date it: It is Bloomberg’s September 2024 estimate, not a confirmed 2026 net worth.
- Separate wealth from cash: Much of the figure is tied to the estimated value of a private-company stake, which is not equivalent to liquid money.
- Keep business measures distinct: Product sales, company revenue, a proposed valuation, and a shareholder’s personal wealth are different figures.
- Allow for uncertainty: TIME and Fortune reported different approximate Rare Beauty shares, while public reporting does not disclose complete ownership records or a full audited balance sheet.
