For ecommerce lifecycle marketing, start with Klaviyo or Omnisend; for a broader sales-and-marketing platform, consider HubSpot or Zoho CRM; for complex automation, ActiveCampaign; for enterprise sales operations, Salesforce; and for ecommerce customer support, Gorgias. Many growing stores need two connected tools rather than one all-in-one platform.
First decide what you mean by an ecommerce CRM
“CRM” covers several jobs that overlap but are not interchangeable. Choosing by feature count alone can leave a store with a sophisticated sales pipeline but weak retention campaigns—or a strong email tool that cannot manage wholesale accounts or customer-service tickets.
- Lifecycle marketing CRM: Uses customer, order, browsing, and engagement data to segment shoppers and automate email, SMS, push, and retention campaigns.
- Sales CRM: Tracks leads, deals, account relationships, sales activity, and pipelines. This matters for wholesale, B2B, and account-based ecommerce.
- Customer-service CRM or helpdesk: Organizes customer conversations, tickets, order questions, returns, and support automation.
- Customer data platform (CDP): Unifies customer data from multiple sources. A CDP may not itself execute campaigns or manage support.
- All-in-one suite: Combines multiple functions, potentially reducing tool sprawl but increasing cost, setup, and administration.
A common stack is Klaviyo plus Gorgias for lifecycle marketing and support, or Omnisend plus a separate helpdesk. A sales-led B2B business may use HubSpot alone, or Zoho CRM alongside Zoho Desk and Zoho Campaigns. A large company may use Salesforce with specialist marketing and service products. Keep the ecommerce platform as the system of record for inventory, fulfillment, payment authorization, tax, and order accounting unless another product explicitly supports those jobs.
Quick comparison: which platform fits which job?
| Platform | Best fit | Primary role | Store and channel evidence | Pricing signal | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Klaviyo | Ecommerce-first brands focused on retention | Lifecycle marketing and customer data | Vendor advertises more than 350 integrations; verify the exact store data and sync behavior needed. | Free plan: up to 250 active profiles, 500 email sends per month, and $5 of mobile messages per month. | Cost can rise with profiles, message volume, products, and support tier; it is not primarily a sales pipeline. |
| Omnisend | Smaller merchants wanting email, SMS, and push in one tool | Ecommerce lifecycle marketing | Vendor advertises more than 250 prebuilt integrations and flexible APIs. | Free plan: 250 contacts, 500 emails, and 500 web-push notifications per month. | Less suited to complex B2B account structures and sales pipelines. |
| HubSpot | Growing teams coordinating marketing, sales, content, and service | Broad CRM suite | Confirm store connector capabilities, historical imports, and ecommerce event detail for your setup. | Free Marketing Hub for up to two users; paid tiers and required onboarding can materially increase total cost. | Advanced marketing can be expensive and require more implementation than a small DTC store needs. |
| Zoho CRM | Budget-conscious businesses needing conventional pipeline management | Sales CRM and broader business suite | Check the store connector and whether separate Zoho products or integrations are needed for campaigns and support. | Free edition for three users; the cited Standard display was ₹800/user/month in its selected currency view. | Not the strongest fit for out-of-the-box ecommerce lifecycle marketing. |
| ActiveCampaign | Teams building complex behavioral journeys | Marketing automation with CRM options | Vendor lists ecommerce integrations; validate specific events and data flow. | Customized by contacts, plan, and billing term; the cited page did not expose a stable numeric price. | Requires careful plan and price review; not the simplest onboarding choice. |
| Salesforce | Enterprise, wholesale, B2B, and highly customized operations | Enterprise sales CRM | Broad API and customization capabilities; ecommerce implementation may involve integrations and specialist products. | Sales Cloud page displayed plans from $0 to $550 per user per month, depending on tier. | Complexity and implementation can outweigh the value for a small DTC store. |
| Gorgias | Support-heavy ecommerce operations | Ecommerce helpdesk | Vendor lists Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, and WooCommerce integrations, plus more than 100 apps. | Helpdesk pricing is ticket-volume-oriented; AI Agent is offered on every plan with charges based on resolved conversations. | Not a replacement for lifecycle marketing or a full sales CRM. |
| Brevo | Businesses comparing budget and channel flexibility | Email and multichannel marketing | Verify ecommerce event depth and integrations against your store requirements. | Use the vendor calculator; costs vary with volume, channels, and add-ons. | Its ecommerce CRM depth should be checked against specialist lifecycle tools. |

Best ecommerce CRM platforms by use case
Klaviyo: best for ecommerce-first lifecycle marketing
Klaviyo is a strong fit when the core job is using shopper behavior to improve retention: segmenting by customer activity, running automated journeys, and coordinating email and SMS. Its platform positioning includes marketing, customer data, analytics, service, customer profiles, and ecommerce integrations. The vendor advertises more than 350 integrations, but an integration count does not establish that your specific order, refund, subscription, consent, or browsing events sync as needed.
The free plan is limited to 250 active profiles, 500 email sends per month, and $5 of mobile messages per month, according to Klaviyo’s pricing page. Paid costs depend on profile count, sending, and selected products, so model the total in the live calculator rather than assuming one starting price applies to every store.
Choose it for behavioral segmentation and ecommerce retention, not because you expect it to replace a mature wholesale pipeline or order-aware support desk. Compare it with Omnisend if you want simpler multichannel setup, and pair it with a helpdesk such as Gorgias if service conversations are a separate operational need.
Omnisend: best for a simpler multichannel ecommerce setup
Omnisend suits smaller and midsize stores that want email, SMS, web push, and ecommerce workflows without adopting a broad sales CRM. Its vendor-described workflows include cart abandonment, welcome, post-purchase, and re-engagement journeys; it also advertises more than 250 prebuilt integrations and flexible APIs. Omnisend says 24/7 live chat and email support are available on all plans, including free.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
The free plan is listed at $0 per month for up to 250 contacts, 500 monthly emails, and 500 web-push notifications. The pricing page says Standard email sends are capped at 12 times list size and Pro sends are subject to fair-use limits of up to 60 times list size; treat those as plan-specific limits, not unlimited sending. Details are on Omnisend’s pricing page.
It is a weaker fit if the real problem is managing sales representatives, complex account hierarchies, or custom enterprise CRM objects. Compare it with Klaviyo when deeper behavioral marketing is a priority, and with a dedicated support tool if returns and ticket workflows dominate your workload.

HubSpot: best for teams that need marketing, sales, and service aligned
HubSpot makes more sense when ecommerce is part of a wider growth operation: lead capture, content, sales handoffs, service workflows, and shared reporting. It can be excessive for a small DTC brand that mainly needs abandoned-cart and post-purchase messaging.
The pricing page listed Marketing Hub Free at $0 per month for up to two users. Starter was displayed at $7 per seat per month with annual billing and $20 per seat per month on the alternate billing option shown; its display included 1,000 marketing contacts and 500 HubSpot credits. Professional was shown at $800 per month with annual billing, three core seats, additional core seats starting at $45 per month, and required one-time onboarding of $3,000. Enterprise was shown at $3,600 per month with required one-time onboarding of $7,000. These are page displays, not a universal quote; check billing terms, contact limits, additional seats, and onboarding in HubSpot’s pricing information.
Recommended Free Tools
Before choosing HubSpot for a store, verify the connector’s supported objects and events, historical order import, consent synchronization, and whether the plan includes the automation and reporting you actually need. Its breadth is valuable only if the team will configure and operate the wider platform.
Zoho CRM: best value-oriented traditional CRM
Zoho CRM is worth considering when pipeline management, follow-ups, workflows, custom modules, and a broader business software ecosystem matter more than specialized ecommerce retention features. The vendor offers a free CRM edition for three users, with leads, deals, workflows, reports, mobile apps, contact management, reminders, APIs, and basic sales activities described on Zoho’s CRM pricing page.
The page displayed Standard at ₹800 per user per month in the selected currency view; that figure is not a U.S.-dollar quote. Confirm the current local pricing, billing term, and any add-on products. A store seeking campaign execution or customer support may need Zoho Campaigns, Zoho Desk, or other integrations rather than CRM alone.
ActiveCampaign: best for advanced marketing automation
ActiveCampaign is a candidate when journeys need branching, conditional content, advanced segmentation, or predictive features across ecommerce integrations. The vendor lists marketing automation, email, attribution, conversion tracking, custom objects, and CRM add-ons among its features. Its pricing page distinguishes tiers: Starter lists limited segmentation and five actions per automation, while higher tiers include multi-step automation, predictive or conditional content, advanced segmentation, and unlimited automation actions.

- Fight Ink-bleeding & Great Size: The high-end 100gsm paper could prevent ink bleeding through or feathering, handle double-sided writing and most daily use pens pretty well. The office/business work notebook measures 7.5"x 10"(similar to B5 size), Generous size provides ample space to jot down your meeting notes.
- Each 160 Pages Per Book: Provide ample space for note taking & planning and with the date section at the top for tracking them. With 160 pages for meeting minutes, the manager notebook will cover more than half a year, even in daily use. Also provides index pages for organizing this office planner.
- Better Tool Drives Better Meetings: The hassle of organizing the chaotic meeting notes VS this professional meeting notebook. Definitely a step up! Everything is neatly zoned on each page makes it a breeze to fill them out and ensure all you need are accounted for.
The captured pricing page did not provide a stable numeric figure, so compare the current quote by contact volume, plan, and billing term at ActiveCampaign’s pricing page. It is less compelling if you want the simplest ecommerce onboarding or only need a traditional sales pipeline.
Salesforce: best for enterprise and B2B complexity
Salesforce is appropriate when multiple sales processes, wholesale accounts, extensive permissions, custom reporting, or complex integrations justify an enterprise CRM. Its Sales Cloud page lists capabilities such as leads, accounts, contacts, opportunities, quotes, orders, reporting, workflows, APIs, and customization. That flexibility also brings configuration and administration work that can be disproportionate for a small online store.
The official page displayed Free Suite at $0 per user per month, Starter at $25, Pro at $100, Enterprise at $175, Unlimited at $350, and Agentforce 1 Sales at $550 per user per month. These are listed plan prices; confirm applicable billing terms, region, product scope, and additional implementation costs with Salesforce’s Sales Cloud pricing page.
Gorgias: best for ecommerce customer support
Gorgias is designed around customer conversations and ecommerce support rather than marketing campaigns or sales pipelines. It is a candidate for teams handling order status, returns, refunds, and support automation across channels. The vendor lists Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, and WooCommerce integrations, along with more than 100 apps.

Brevo: investigate for budget and channel flexibility
Brevo may be attractive when email volume pricing and channels such as SMS, WhatsApp, and transactional messaging matter. It should not be assumed to have the same ecommerce event depth as a dedicated lifecycle platform. Compare the store integration, segmentation data, workflow triggers, and export options directly, then use Brevo’s pricing calculator for the relevant volume and add-ons. Match the CRM to your business model
| Business profile | Strong candidates | Why this is the right starting point |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify-first DTC focused on repeat purchases | Klaviyo; Omnisend for a simpler setup | Prioritize customer-event segmentation and lifecycle journeys; verify the actual events and consent fields your store sends. |
| Small store seeking email, SMS, and push | Omnisend | Its positioning centers on ecommerce workflows and multiple channels. |
| Growing team across marketing, sales, content, and service | HubSpot | A broader shared CRM can align functions when the team can justify the tier and implementation. |
| Wholesale, B2B, or account-based ecommerce | HubSpot, Zoho CRM, or Salesforce | Prioritize accounts, opportunities, custom fields, and sales processes over cart flows alone. |
| Budget-conscious sales pipeline | Zoho CRM | The free three-user edition provides a conventional CRM starting point. |
| Complex behavioral automation | ActiveCampaign or Klaviyo | Assess branching, event triggers, conditional logic, and plan limits against real journeys. |
| Large, multi-brand enterprise | Salesforce, often with specialist tools | Governance, customization, permissions, and integrations may justify the added complexity. |
| Support-heavy ecommerce operation | Gorgias plus a marketing platform | Order-aware support and ticket operations are a different job from retention marketing. |
| WooCommerce, BigCommerce, or Magento store | Compare integration requirements before selecting any vendor | Gorgias lists these platforms; Klaviyo and Omnisend advertise broad integration catalogs. Verify exact data, history, and sync behavior rather than assuming Shopify parity. |
| Marketplace-heavy seller | Evaluate a CDP or integration layer alongside the CRM | The cited plan information does not establish marketplace data coverage; test whether marketplaces provide usable customer identities and permitted marketing consent. |
| Subscription brand | Klaviyo, Omnisend, or ActiveCampaign with the subscription platform integration | Confirm renewal, failed-payment, cancellation, and subscription-status events before building journeys. |
These are fit-based starting points, not universal rankings. For any store platform, confirm whether the connection is native or through a third party, which objects and events sync, how often updates arrive, whether historical orders import, and whether consent status synchronizes in both directions.
What to expect an ecommerce CRM to do
A useful system should make customer and commerce information actionable—not merely store email addresses. Look for profiles that can connect contact details with order history, purchase frequency, average order value, products bought, engagement, consent, and customer-service context. The platform should support segments using relevant purchase, cart, browsing, location, and customer-status data, plus journeys triggered by those conditions.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Omnisend’s official pricing page describes cart abandonment, welcome, post-purchase, and re-engagement workflows, while Klaviyo positions its platform across marketing, customer data, analytics, service, segmentation, email, SMS, profiles, and ecommerce integrations. Those are vendor descriptions; test whether the functions cover your specific storefront and operating rules.
Compare CRM, ESP, marketing automation, CDP, and helpdesk as job descriptions rather than interchangeable labels. A platform can claim segmentation yet differ substantially in product-level filters, event delay, workflow triggers, data export, and whether online and offline purchases resolve to one customer. Keep a source-of-truth map for orders and customer records so duplicated or conflicting data does not become the basis for a campaign.
Automations that matter for an online store
Build journeys around useful customer moments, not simply the number of flows in a vendor template library. Common candidates include:
- Welcome: Introduce the brand and set expectations after a valid signup; apply consent rules by channel.
- Browse abandonment: Follow up on a product view only where tracking, identity, consent, and frequency limits permit it.
- Cart and checkout abandonment: Use distinct triggers if the platform can distinguish a saved cart from a started checkout; suppress after purchase.
- Order confirmation and shipping updates: Keep operational notices accurate and separate from promotional messaging where required.
- Post-purchase education: Send use, care, setup, or onboarding information appropriate to the product.
- Cross-sell and upsell: Recommend compatible or relevant items using product and order data rather than generic blasts.
- Replenishment: Time reminders to a credible product-use cycle and allow customers to opt out or adjust timing.
- Review and user-generated-content requests: Trigger after a reasonable delivery or usage interval, not immediately after checkout.
- Win-back: Target lapsed customers using a defined inactivity window and exclude those who recently returned.
- VIP and loyalty: Recognize meaningful customer value and coordinate with loyalty rules and service policies.
- Back-in-stock and price-drop alerts: Ensure inventory or pricing events are current and the item remains available when the message is sent.
- Subscription renewal and failed-payment recovery: Use the subscription system’s authoritative status and avoid messages that contradict a successful retry.
- Customer-service escalation: Stop promotional journeys or route a case when an unresolved complaint or return should take priority.
- Recent-purchaser suppression: Prevent irrelevant promotions immediately after a customer buys, especially when fulfillment or product setup is still in progress.
For every automation, define the trigger, delay, branching conditions, frequency cap, exclusions, failure behavior, and owner. Test events such as refunds, cancellations, unsubscribes, and duplicate orders—not just the happy path.

How to compare integrations and data quality
A logo in an integration directory is not proof that the connection supplies the data your decisions depend on. Before committing, ask the vendor or implementation partner to show how a representative record moves through the system.
- Store and channel coverage: Confirm Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento/Adobe Commerce, POS, marketplaces, subscription billing, loyalty, reviews, and returns connections relevant to your business.
- Data objects and history: Check customer, product, order, cart, browse, fulfillment, refund, and subscription events, plus the availability of historical imports.
- Identity and duplication: Test how email changes, guest checkout, multiple storefronts, and shared household addresses are handled.
- Consent synchronization: Confirm opt-ins, unsubscribes, suppression lists, and channel-specific permissions in both directions where applicable.
- Reliability and timing: Ask how frequently data syncs, how failed events are retried, and how the team can detect a broken connection.
- Portability: Confirm exports and APIs cover customer records and activity you need to retain, not just contact names.
- Security and operations: Review permissions, audit trails, data retention and deletion, regional data handling, and access control as the team grows.
Native integration does not guarantee clean records: duplicates, incomplete history, currency or tax mismatches, missing refunds, unclear subscription states, and consent conflicts can still occur. Run a pre-purchase test with real sample records in a controlled environment before migrating campaigns.
Pricing: compare the cost of operating the system
Do not compare only the smallest advertised monthly figure. Vendors charge by different units, and a low entry tier may not contain the users, contact capacity, automation, or channel volume you need. A commercial snapshot checked August 18, 2026 is summarized below; plan prices and limits can change.
| Platform | Published price or free-tier signal | What to include in your estimate |
|---|---|---|
| Klaviyo | Free: 250 active profiles, 500 email sends/month, $5 mobile messages/month. | Active profiles, email volume, SMS/mobile messaging, extra products, and support tier. |
| Omnisend | Free: $0/month, 250 contacts, 500 emails/month, 500 web-push notifications/month. | Contact volume, send multiplier and fair-use limits, SMS, and any add-ons. |
| HubSpot Marketing Hub | Free: up to two users. Starter displayed at $7/seat/month annual or $20/seat/month on the alternate billing option. Professional displayed at $800/month annual, three core seats, and $3,000 required onboarding; Enterprise at $3,600/month and $7,000 required onboarding. | Billing option, marketing contacts, credits, seats, required onboarding, and additional tools. |
| Zoho CRM | Free for three users. Standard displayed at ₹800/user/month in the selected currency view. | Local currency and billing term, user count, and any separate marketing or service products. |
| ActiveCampaign | Numeric price not established in the captured page. | Contact count, plan, billing term, CRM add-ons, and channel usage. |
| Salesforce Sales Cloud | Displayed from $0/user/month for Free Suite to $550/user/month for Agentforce 1 Sales; listed tiers also include $25, $100, $175, and $350 per user/month. | Region, chosen tier, number of users, implementation, customization, and connected products. |
| Gorgias | Ticket-volume-oriented; helpdesk described as scaling from 50 to 5,000 tickets/month. AI Agent is on every plan and charged based on resolved conversations. | Ticket volume, AI-resolved conversations, and usage-based Voice or SMS add-ons. |
| Brevo | Use vendor calculator; no single stable price is stated here. | Email volume, channels, and add-ons. |
Figures are vendor page displays, not a like-for-like quotation. The HubSpot prices include the billing terms and onboarding described above; the Zoho figure is in the selected currency view, not a U.S. conversion. Check the current pages for your region, taxes, commitments, and plan eligibility: Klaviyo, Omnisend, HubSpot, Zoho, ActiveCampaign, Salesforce, Gorgias, and Brevo.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCalculate a realistic 12-month cost
Build a forecast at today’s size and your expected size 12 months from now. Include contact or active-profile counts, monthly sends, SMS/MMS by destination country, seats, storefronts, ticket volume, AI usage, API or data charges, add-on products, onboarding, migration, training, premium support, and annual commitments. Contact-based pricing can rise even if sending stays flat; send-based pricing may suit a large list that receives infrequent campaigns better than a business running many journeys. SMS is not necessarily unlimited or free just because the platform supports it.
Free tiers can be useful for a small pilot, but check the contact and send caps, user count, support, branding, reporting, historical data, and advanced automation available. For example, the stated free Klaviyo and Omnisend limits are small relative to a growing store’s list and campaign needs; they should not be mistaken for a long-term cost estimate.
Use a break-even test, not a vendor revenue claim
Estimate: required incremental gross profit = monthly CRM cost + monthly messaging costs + amortized implementation cost + incremental labor cost. Then ask whether plausible gains in repeat purchases, conversion, reduced support time, or lead-to-sale conversion can exceed that amount. This is a planning test, not a promise that software will create the uplift.
Demand useful reporting, not just attributed revenue
At minimum, examine revenue per recipient, conversion rate, repeat purchase rate, lifetime value, cohort retention, flow performance, revenue by channel, unsubscribes, spam complaints, and deliverability. If possible, report on contribution margin rather than gross sales alone, and use holdout or incrementality tests where available.
Platform-attributed revenue is not the same as incremental revenue. A platform can take credit for a sale that would have happened without a message, and platforms may use different first-touch, last-touch, multi-touch, or proprietary methods. Compare platform reporting with store revenue, margin, repeat-purchase trends, and controlled holdouts; document the attribution window and method before comparing vendors.
Quick Recap
Choose in nine steps
- Name the primary job. Decide whether the main need is lifecycle marketing, sales pipeline, order-aware support, data unification, or a combination.
- List the source systems. Record storefronts, POS, marketplaces, subscription tools, returns, loyalty, analytics, and support systems.
- Set data requirements. Identify events, fields, history, consent, and exports needed for your segments and workflows.
- Map the essential journeys. Pick the few automations that address real customer moments and define their suppression rules.
- Estimate size and usage. Forecast contacts, sends, SMS, seats, tickets, AI conversations, and storefronts now and at 12 months.
- Test reporting. Check attribution method, cohort and flow reporting, margin support, exports, and holdout options.
- Calculate total cost. Include add-ons, implementation, migration, labor, onboarding, and the next likely plan tier.
- Run a data test. Use sample orders, refunds, cancellations, and unsubscribes to check identity, sync, consent, and retries.
- Check operational fit. Confirm the team has time and ownership for setup, permissions, approvals, training, and ongoing maintenance.
Implementation checklist for a safer launch
- Define the source of truth for customer identity, orders, consent, inventory, fulfillment, and support cases.
- Audit records for duplicates, stale fields, missing consent, and inconsistent customer identities across stores.
- Preserve consent and suppression status; do not re-subscribe contacts merely because their addresses were imported.
- Authenticate sending domains and confirm bounce, complaint, and unsubscribe handling before large sends.
- Connect the storefront and import history only after confirming which objects, dates, currencies, refunds, and statuses will transfer.
- Rebuild essential journeys and document trigger logic, exclusions, frequency caps, owners, and rollback steps.
- Test edge cases: a purchase during cart abandonment, refund, cancellation, failed payment, duplicate profile, unsubscribe, and support escalation.
- Launch to a small eligible audience and monitor delivery, complaints, data quality, and customer responses before expanding.
- Compare reporting methods with store analytics and margin, then record attribution windows and definitions.
- Document permissions and ownership so access, approvals, data deletion, and vendor offboarding are managed when roles change.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Buying “CRM” as if it always means email marketing. Match the product to marketing, sales, or support work before comparing brands.
- Assuming an integration is complete because it is native. Validate historical data, refunds, consent, duplicates, and sync reliability.
- Choosing by advertised starting price. Model contacts, message usage, seats, tickets, implementation, and the next growth tier.
- Trusting attributed revenue as proof of lift. Check contribution margin and use holdouts where possible.
- Expecting automation alone to fix retention. Product quality, delivery, pricing, service, returns, subscription experience, merchandising, and loyalty also shape whether customers return.
- Letting AI act without guardrails. Check for wrong product claims, discounts, personalization, order details, escalation failures, privacy exposure, and brand-voice issues; require human approval for high-risk campaigns or support actions.
- Skipping international and multi-store checks. Validate currency and tax handling, local SMS availability and rules, language, data residency, brand separation, and cross-store identity resolution.
