What is Amazon’s partnership with Affirm?
Amazon and Affirm announced their partnership on August 27, 2021. The initial rollout let select U.S. Amazon.com customers split eligible purchases of $50 or more into monthly payments, with broader availability planned. How to use Affirm at checkout
- Add the products you want and proceed to checkout on Amazon or a participating Amazon Pay merchant site.
- If a pay-over-time option is available for that transaction, select Affirm or the displayed Affirm option. The precise wording can vary by checkout.
- Complete Affirm’s eligibility or loan application process and review the plans offered.
- Before accepting, check the APR, any down payment, payment amounts and dates, and total repayment amount.
- Accept only if the schedule fits your budget. Manage the resulting payments through Affirm online or in its app.

What does Amazon Affirm financing cost?
Affirm’s current disclosures state that pay-over-time plans can carry 0%–36% APR, depending on credit and the financing program. Pay in 4 is 0% APR where offered, and a down payment may be required. Options depend on the purchase amount and merchant. Affirm’s disclosures

“No late fees” does not mean every plan is interest-free. A longer monthly plan may charge interest, so compare the total amount you will repay—not just the installment size—with paying upfront or using another available payment method. Affirm says eligible plans have no late or hidden fees and allow early payoff without a prepayment penalty; review the specific offer and terms before accepting. Amazon Pay’s Affirm terms summary
Does using Affirm affect your credit?
Checking eligibility is generally a soft inquiry and does not affect your credit score. If you take out a plan, the loan and repayment activity may be reported to credit bureaus, so the effect can depend on reporting and your credit profile. It is not accurate to say that Affirm never affects credit. Amazon Pay’s credit information
Which purchases qualify?
Eligibility depends on the checkout channel, merchant, order, location and customer approval. The $50 threshold was part of the 2021 launch terms; it should not be read as a promise that every current Amazon order above $50 will show Affirm.
For Amazon Pay specifically, Amazon lists gift cards, digital items, cart values under $50 and purchases not shipped to a U.S. address as ineligible examples. Its consumer page says this option is currently limited to purchases shipped to U.S. addresses. Those Amazon Pay restrictions should not automatically be applied to every direct Amazon.com or Amazon Business order; use the terms shown for the transaction. Amazon Pay’s eligibility information

Returns, cancellations and declined applications
If you return or cancel an order
Start the return or cancellation with the retailer—Amazon or the participating Amazon Pay merchant. The retailer processes the refund, after which Affirm updates the financing account. Affirm’s merchant documentation describes full and partial refunds. Do not stop scheduled payments solely because you requested a return; check the order, refund and payment status with both the retailer and Affirm. Affirm’s return and refund documentation
If Affirm does not appear or declines the application
The order may not qualify, the merchant or location may not support the option, or the application may not meet Affirm’s criteria. A down payment or a different plan may be offered; identity verification or an account issue may also need attention. The precise reason is not established by the absence of the option alone. Choose another payment method or contact Affirm for a lending decision; Amazon may not be able to explain it.

Amazon Business and the merchant option
Amazon Business’s Affirm rollout was for eligible business customers, including sole proprietors, and should not be treated as identical to consumer financing. For merchants, Amazon Pay with Affirm adds installments to Amazon Pay checkout on participating third-party sites. Amazon says merchants need the latest Amazon Pay checkout version, Checkout v2; if the option does not appear after updating, Amazon directs merchants to Merchant Support. Affirm’s published merchant eligibility guidance names U.S., Canadian and U.K. consumer-facing businesses meeting its requirements, including an applicable bank account, English-language website and prices in USD, CAD or GBP. When might Affirm make sense?
- The purchase is necessary and the full payment schedule is affordable.
- You have compared total repayment, including interest, with cash, a debit payment or another suitable option.
- You understand whether the offer is genuinely 0% APR, whether a down payment is due, and when payments are scheduled.
- You can keep up with payments while a delivery, return or refund is being resolved.
Be cautious if the offer’s APR is high, the purchase is discretionary, or several installment plans would make your monthly obligations harder to track. A small installment does not by itself make a purchase affordable.
