Carol Bartz’s net worth is estimated at about $489 million, according to Benzinga’s securities-based calculation, which it says was recalculated on May 19, 2026. That is a third-party estimate, not an audited or officially disclosed figure; no authoritative public source establishes her exact current wealth.

What is Carol Bartz’s estimated net worth?

Benzinga’s insider-trading database puts Bartz’s estimated net worth at approximately $489 million as of May 19, 2026. Its estimate draws on reported holdings and transactions associated with public companies including Intel, Cisco Systems, Autodesk, Yahoo, Network Appliance and BEA Systems. Benzinga’s estimate and transaction record are useful indicators of publicly documented securities activity, but they are not a complete personal balance sheet.

The figure should be read as an estimate, not as proof that Bartz currently owns assets worth exactly that amount. Public filings do not disclose all of an individual’s assets and liabilities, and securities-based calculations can be affected by market prices and by later transactions that are not reflected in the underlying records.

How Bartz built her wealth

Bartz’s wealth is associated principally with a long technology-industry career: senior roles at Sun Microsystems, more than a decade leading Autodesk, a later stint as Yahoo’s chief executive, and public-company board and shareholding connections. SEC biographies record her as Autodesk’s chairman and CEO from 1992 to 2006 and executive chairman from 2006 to 2009; she was Yahoo CEO from January 2009 to September 2011 and president from April 2009 to September 2011. The SEC biography and role dates establish her executive history, not the precise amount each role added to her wealth.

Autodesk leadership

Leading Autodesk placed Bartz at the head of a publicly traded technology company during a period when executive pay could include salary, bonuses and equity awards. Those awards and the performance of technology stocks may have contributed substantially to her financial success, but the available records do not establish a precise Autodesk-derived total after grants, vesting, sales, taxes and investment changes. Autodesk’s 2003 Form 10-K is among the company filings documenting her leadership.

Yahoo leadership

Bartz’s Yahoo compensation agreement illustrates why compensation terms cannot simply be added up and called net worth. Yahoo’s 2008 Form 10-K set a $1 million annual base salary, a target annual bonus equal to 200% of base salary, and a stock option covering 5 million shares with an $11.73 exercise price and a maximum seven-year term. The option had performance-based vesting thresholds tied to Yahoo’s share price. Yahoo’s SEC filing documents the agreement; it does not show that all options vested, were exercised or produced proceeds.

Board roles and securities activity

Bartz also had board or reported-shareholding connections with companies including Cisco, Intel, Network Appliance and BEA Systems. These relationships help explain why public-company securities appear in transaction records, but a board role or historical shareholding does not establish a current asset value.

Why executive pay is not the same as net worth

Reported pay can include accounting values for stock awards as well as cash salary and bonuses. The reported grant-date value of an award is not necessarily what an executive ultimately receives: shares may not yet be vested or sold, and their value can rise or fall. Autodesk’s compensation disclosures explain that accounting fair values may differ from amounts ultimately realized. Autodesk’s 2026 SEC filing provides that qualification.

Historical commentary also requires careful attribution. A governance document cited approximately $47 million in Autodesk-related executive compensation for a period; that is a cited compensation figure, not a verified amount of cash received or current wealth. The SEC-hosted governance document reflects that criticism. Separately, a Forbes contributor estimated that Bartz’s Yahoo compensation package was about $60 million over her first two years. That was commentary, not an audited total. The Forbes commentary should not be mistaken for a calculation of her net worth.

What public filings say about her stock holdings

A 2015 Cisco proxy reported that Bartz beneficially owned 256,692 Cisco shares, including shares held by the Carol Ann Bartz Living Trust. This is a historical filing snapshot, not evidence of her current Cisco holdings or the present value of those shares. Cisco’s 2015 proxy statement also illustrates that trust-held assets can complicate attempts to identify ownership from direct holdings alone.

Historical holdings should not be added together as if they remain unchanged today. Shares may have been sold, transferred, donated or replaced with other investments since a filing date.

Why her exact net worth cannot be verified publicly

Net worth means assets minus liabilities. Public-company filings can document some securities holdings and transactions, but they do not reveal a complete personal balance sheet. The public record reviewed here does not establish Bartz’s current cash, real estate, private investments, debts, taxes, charitable giving or the full economic arrangements of assets held through trusts or other entities. Nor does a dated securities estimate necessarily capture later sales or market movements.

For that reason, the $489 million figure is best understood as a dated third-party estimate based largely on public securities information. It is not an official disclosure, a Forbes net-worth estimate or a verified measure of all assets minus liabilities.
