No dedicated U.S. Netflix student plan is publicly listed as of August 18, 2026. Netflix’s lowest listed option is Standard with ads at $8.99 per month before applicable taxes. If you want a verified student deal instead, Hulu, Spotify Premium Student with Hulu, and Peacock currently list offers for eligible U.S. students—but none includes Netflix.
Does Netflix offer a student discount?
Netflix does not publicly list a dedicated student discount or student subscription tier for U.S. customers as of August 18, 2026. Its official U.S. plan display lists regular consumer plans, not a student rate. That does not rule out a limited offer through a school or another partner, but such an offer should be confirmed on Netflix’s or the named partner’s official site.

A page that uses the words “Netflix student discount” may simply be referring to Netflix’s cheapest regular plan, an unofficial coupon, a gift-card deal, or a bundle for a different service. A discounted gift card or cash-back offer lowers what you pay through a separate provider; it is not a Netflix student subscription.
What does Netflix cost, and what does the cheapest plan include?
The following are U.S. prices shown on Netflix’s official plan display on August 18, 2026. They are before applicable taxes and may change; check Netflix’s plan page before subscribing.

| Netflix plan | Price seen | Ads | Video and streams | Downloads | Notable details |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard with ads | $8.99/month | Yes | 1080p; 2 simultaneous streams | Included | Some titles may be unavailable because of licensing; some older devices may not support the plan. |
| Standard | $17.99/month | No | 1080p; 2 simultaneous streams | Included | Regular ad-free plan. |
| Premium | $24.99/month | No | 4K + HDR; 4 simultaneous streams | Included | Netflix’s plan display lists spatial audio. |
Netflix says the Standard with ads plan supports up to five profiles, and its plan details describe 1080p video, two simultaneous streams, and downloads. Those features do not depend on student status. The plan has advertisements, and a small number of titles may be unavailable due to licensing restrictions. Review the Standard with ads details for current compatibility and plan information.
Netflix says its accounts are for people who live together in one household, subject to its household and extra-member rules. Sharing an account with a roommate or friend who lives elsewhere is not a student discount and is not automatically permitted. Check the current terms in Netflix’s signup information before relying on another person’s account.
Netflix says customers are notified about price changes and can review their plan pricing in their accounts. See its price-change help page for details.
Is Standard with ads the cheapest legitimate way to watch Netflix?
For the U.S. plans listed by Netflix on August 18, 2026, Standard with ads at $8.99 per month is the lowest-priced direct Netflix option. It is a regular plan, not a student rate. It may suit a student who wants Netflix’s catalog, accepts ads, and has compatible devices. It is a poor fit if you need an ad-free experience or depend on a title that is unavailable on the ad-supported plan.

Which streaming services have verified student offers?
These U.S. offers are not Netflix plans. Prices and eligibility shown below were observed on August 18, 2026. Confirm the current terms with each provider, including taxes, verification, renewal, and whether existing subscribers can switch.
| Service | Student offer seen | What it includes | Verification | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hulu Student | $1.99/month | Standalone Hulu with ads | SheerID; qualifying U.S. college enrollment | Does not include Netflix; cannot be combined with Hulu bundle pricing. |
| Spotify Premium Student with Hulu | One month free for eligible new users, then $6.99/month | Spotify Premium plus Hulu with ads | SheerID; eligible higher-education students | Hulu must be activated separately; billing, add-ons, and offer-duration rules apply. |
| Peacock Student | $5.99/month for 12 months | Peacock Premium | SheerID; qualifying U.S. students, generally age 18 or older | After 12 months, the offer page states billing at $10.99 or the then-current retail price, plus tax, unless canceled or renewed where permitted. |
Hulu Student: lowest listed standalone video price
Hulu’s official Student Deal lists $1.99 per month for eligible students at qualifying U.S. Title IV-accredited colleges or universities, with verification through SheerID. It is Hulu’s ad-supported standalone plan—not Netflix—and does not automatically include premium add-ons. The offer page says it is available to new and existing Hulu-billed subscribers; a free trial is not included when signing up through the student offer.
The student price depends on continued eligibility and the current offer terms. Hulu says the deal cannot be combined with its bundle pricing, and regular pricing may apply when eligibility ends or the offer is discontinued. Check the offer page for current price, taxes, and renewal details.

Spotify Premium Student with Hulu: music and TV together
Spotify’s U.S. Premium Student offer lists one month free for eligible new users, then $6.99 per month, with Spotify Premium and Hulu’s ad-supported plan at no additional charge. Spotify uses SheerID, limits eligibility to students at eligible higher-education institutions, and requires annual verification. This is a music-and-Hulu bundle, not a Netflix discount.
Hulu access must be activated separately through Hulu. The benefit generally cannot be combined with other Hulu plans or add-ons; existing Hulu users may need to switch billing to Spotify. Third-party billing or incompatible add-ons can block account linking. Review Spotify’s Hulu activation and billing instructions and its student-tier terms before changing an existing subscription.
Spotify says Premium Student can continue for up to four years with annual re-verification, while the Hulu benefit has additional duration and eligibility conditions. Its student support page notes that SheerID confirmation can take several days in some cases. The introductory month is not available to everyone, including some users who have previously tried Premium.
Peacock Student: NBCUniversal programming and sports
Peacock’s student offer lists Peacock Premium for $5.99 per month for 12 months. Eligibility generally requires being at least 18 and enrolled in an undergraduate or advanced-degree program at a U.S. Title IV-accredited institution; verification is through SheerID. The offer can suit students interested in NBCUniversal programming, Peacock Originals, sports, or live events, but it does not include Netflix.

- Unlimited movies, TV shows, and more. Watch anywhere. Cancel anytime.

- Redemption: Online
The offer page states that after the 12-month period Peacock will charge $10.99 or the then-current retail price, plus tax, unless the subscription is canceled or the offer is renewed where permitted. The $10.99 figure is the price stated on the page on August 18, 2026, not a guaranteed future rate. Read the student offer terms and set a reminder before renewal if you do not want the regular price.
Which option makes sense for your budget?
- You want Netflix specifically: Choose Netflix Standard with ads at its regular listed price if the ads, device compatibility, and title restrictions work for you. There is no publicly listed U.S. student tier.
- You want the lowest listed student video price: Hulu Student is $1.99 per month for eligible students, for its ad-supported standalone plan.
- You want both music and TV: Spotify Premium Student with Hulu may offer more combined value if you use Spotify and accept Hulu’s ads and activation requirements.
- You want sports or NBCUniversal content: Consider Peacock Student for its 12-month offer, but compare the renewal price before committing.
- You dislike ads: Hulu Student and the cited Peacock student offer are not ad-free options. Netflix Standard or Spotify Premium may better suit your ad preferences, but Spotify’s included Hulu benefit remains ad-supported.
- You are not enrolled at an eligible college: Student offers may not be available. Compare regular plans, free services, library access, or rotating subscriptions instead.
Compare what you will actually watch, the price after any introductory period, verification frequency, renewal rules, simultaneous streams, downloads, and whether existing third-party billing must be changed. A low headline price is only useful if the offer fits your eligibility and viewing needs.

Netflix
- Open Netflix’s official signup page or its Standard with ads page.
- Compare the current plan price and select Standard with ads if the lowest listed monthly price is your priority.
- Check device compatibility and title availability before paying.
- Review the household and extra-member rules in the signup flow; do not treat access from a stranger’s account as a discount.
- Pay the regular price shown at checkout. Use a student code only if Netflix or a clearly identified official partner publishes it.
Hulu Student
- Open Hulu’s official student page and select Get This Deal.
- Create an account or sign in, then complete SheerID verification.
- Confirm checkout shows the ad-supported standalone student plan, not a bundle or third-party offer.
- Review recurring-price and cancellation terms, then note when student eligibility or the offer may end.
If verification fails, confirm the school and program qualify, use current enrollment information, and follow SheerID’s document-upload instructions if requested. Third-party billing or an incompatible plan may prevent a switch. Contact Hulu or SheerID through official support rather than buying a code from another site.
Spotify Premium Student with Hulu
- Start at Spotify’s official Premium Student page and complete SheerID verification.
- Return to Spotify after eligibility is confirmed and subscribe to Premium Student.
- Activate Hulu through Spotify’s services page, then create or link the intended Hulu account.
- Check whether existing Hulu billing, a third-party provider, or an add-on must be changed before linking.
- Set a reminder for annual student re-verification and for checking the offer’s duration and renewal terms.
Common problems include an unlisted school, an existing Spotify subscription that makes the introductory offer unavailable, Hulu billing through Roku, Amazon, a carrier or another third party, an incompatible Hulu add-on, or activating the wrong Hulu account. Use Spotify’s verification support and Hulu bundle support to troubleshoot.

Peacock Student
- Open Peacock’s student offer page and verify through SheerID.
- Use the unique promotional code provided after verification to sign up or apply the offer to an eligible account.
- If you already subscribe, follow the page’s instructions; existing subscribers may need additional redemption steps.
- Record the date the 12-month offer ends, then cancel before renewal if the regular price is not worthwhile.
How to spot fake Netflix student discounts
- Use Netflix.com, the Netflix Help Center, or a named partner’s official page to verify an offer, its country, eligibility, billing provider, and renewal terms.
- Do not buy a “Netflix student code” or a supposed lifetime account from an unknown seller.
- Never give your Netflix password or school login to a coupon site or social-media seller.
- Check whether a supposed deal is actually a gift-card discount, cash-back offer, carrier bundle, or discount for another streaming service.
- Confirm checkout names the actual provider and shows the recurring price, not only an introductory amount.
A high search ranking, student email field, or countdown timer does not establish that an offer is official. A legitimate promotion should identify who provides it and spell out eligibility, country, billing, and renewal conditions.
Who qualifies—and what changes when you graduate?
The offers described here are U.S.-specific. Student pricing and eligibility can differ by country, institution, program, age, and verification provider. Do not assume that a community college, vocational course, certificate program, graduate program, or high school automatically qualifies; check the specific provider’s current criteria. Hulu, Spotify, and Peacock each describe higher-education eligibility and use verification requirements, and Peacock’s offer also specifies an age requirement.
Student plans can require re-verification, and losing eligibility may end the discount or lead to regular pricing, depending on the offer. Spotify’s published terms include annual verification and a limit on how long Premium Student can continue; its Hulu benefit has separate conditions. Check each offer’s current terms before graduation or a leave of absence, and set a reminder before any renewal date.
For existing subscribers, Hulu says Hulu-billed customers may be able to switch to its student offer; Spotify/Hulu billing and add-ons may need adjustment; and Peacock subscribers may have additional redemption steps. Netflix has no public student tier to convert to. In all cases, check whether payment through Apple, Google, Amazon, Roku, a wireless carrier, or another provider must be canceled or changed before switching.
