A Craigslist listing reportedly offered an unreleased Samsung phone for $1,650 in mid-February 2026, before Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S26 series on February 25. The seller reportedly called it a Galaxy S26 Ultra, but the device’s apparent size and pill-shaped camera island looked more consistent with an S26+. The asking price was not an official Samsung price, and there is no verified evidence that the phone sold.
What appeared on Craigslist
Reports dated February 14–16, 2026, described a Craigslist listing for an unreleased Samsung phone priced at $1,650. The listing reportedly labeled the device a Galaxy S26 Ultra. Photos appeared to show a powered-on screen with Galaxy S26-series wallpaper and a raised, pill-shaped camera island. Those details prompted other outlets to suggest it looked more like an S26+ than an Ultra. Gizmochina’s report and Notebookcheck’s coverage described the listing and the uncertainty around it.
Samsung later described the S26 and S26+ design as having a translucent camera island. That official design context helps explain why the listing’s camera area attracted attention, but it does not authenticate the device in the photos. Samsung’s product page shows the announced design.
Was it really a Galaxy S26+?
That identification was an inference from images, not a confirmed model number. The seller reportedly used the S26 Ultra name, while coverage judged the phone’s apparent smaller, thinner proportions and single pill-shaped camera island more consistent with the S26+. No cited report establishes the phone’s model number, IMEI, internal hardware, or firmware through an independent inspection. The most accurate description is an alleged pre-release Samsung phone that appeared to resemble an S26+.

Was $1,650 an actual sale price?
No confirmed transaction is established. The $1,650 was the seller’s reported asking price on an unverified Craigslist listing—not a confirmed amount paid, Samsung’s price, or evidence of normal retail availability. Reports described photos and a listing, not a completed sale.
What could the phone have been?
The available evidence does not establish how the device reached the listing or whether it was genuine. It could have been a production sample, an engineering or test unit, a device obtained through a carrier, retailer, repair outlet, or contractor, or a misidentified phone. The listing could also have been fraudulent or intended to attract attention. These are possibilities, not verified explanations.

Photos of a powered-on display can support the impression that a device is functional, but wallpaper and appearance alone are weak proof of identity. Stronger evidence would include a verifiable model number, official firmware, a legitimate ownership trail, and an independent physical inspection. The reports did not provide that level of verification.
How the listing compared with Samsung’s real U.S. prices
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S26 series on February 25, 2026. In the U.S., S26+ preorders opened that day, and general availability began March 11. Samsung set launch MSRPs at $1,099.99 for 256GB and $1,299.99 for 512GB. The $1,650 listing ask was therefore higher than either official configuration.

| Comparison | Difference |
|---|---|
| $1,650 asking price versus $1,099.99 256GB launch MSRP | $550.01 higher |
| $1,650 asking price versus $1,299.99 512GB launch MSRP | $350.01 higher |
These are comparisons with Samsung’s U.S. launch MSRPs, not a claim that the Craigslist device had either storage capacity. Samsung also offered preorder incentives, including eligible trade-in savings and a non-trade-in promotional discount; the value depended on eligibility and the offer. See Samsung’s launch announcement for its official pricing and schedule.
Samsung’s direct-store pages later showed promotional prices in an August 2026 page snapshot: $849.99 for 256GB and $1,049.99 for 512GB, against listed MSRPs of $1,099.99 and $1,299.99. Promotions can change, so those snapshot figures should not be treated as a current quote. The relevant pages are Samsung’s 256GB purchase page and Samsung’s 512GB purchase page.

What Samsung later confirmed about the S26+
After launch, Samsung’s U.S. materials listed the S26+ with a 6.7-inch display and adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz, 12GB of RAM, 256GB or 512GB storage, a 4,900mAh battery, and a 50MP wide, 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP 3x telephoto rear-camera system. The listed U.S. version uses Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy; Samsung gives dimensions of 7.3mm thickness and 190g weight. These are launch-era official specifications, not details independently established from the Craigslist photos.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why buying an unreleased marketplace phone would have been risky
- Identity: The device could have been an S26+, another S26 model, a dummy unit, or a different phone.
- Activation: A test device may not activate normally on a U.S. carrier, even if it powers on.
- Ownership and blacklist status: A phone obtained improperly could later be reported stolen or disabled.
- Warranty: Samsung may not honor warranty service for a prototype, engineering sample, imported device, or unit without valid proof of purchase.
- Payment and returns: A Craigslist deal does not provide the same buyer protections as buying through Samsung or an established retailer.
- Value: The asking price exceeded the official 512GB launch MSRP, before accounting for uncertainty about storage, warranty, or activation.
Someone considering an unusual pre-release listing would need to inspect the phone in person and verify its exact model and region, IMEI status with a reputable carrier or Samsung support channel, legitimate proof of ownership, factory reset and activation, and warranty eligibility before paying. A seller’s description or photos are not substitutes for those checks.

What the listing does—and does not—show
Samsung’s February 25 announcement confirmed that the S26+ was a real product and that its official U.S. preorder period began on that date; general availability followed March 11. The subsequent design and configuration broadly fit the visual clues that led reporters to call the Craigslist phone an S26+. But those later facts do not prove that the listed device was an authenticated retail S26+, that it was sold, or that $1,650 was ever paid. For a buyer, the practical comparison is with Samsung’s official price and protections, not an unverified marketplace ask.
