The HMD Pulse+ Business Edition is an entry-level Android phone aimed at organizations that need manageable, supportable devices more than high-end performance. Its business case rests on five years of quarterly security updates, repair options, enterprise security controls and HMD’s separate FOTA service for managing software updates across a fleet. It is not a premium-performance phone or a complete device-management platform.
What HMD unveiled
On May 15, 2024, Human Mobile Devices (HMD) announced the Pulse+ Business Edition and, alongside it, HMD FOTA, a business-facing service for managing software updates across HMD devices. FOTA is a separate service associated with the business offering, not simply a standard phone feature available to every consumer Pulse+ owner. HMD positioned the handset for organizations looking to control support and fleet costs. HMD’s launch announcement describes the offering.
What makes the Business Edition different?
HMD frames the business distinction around support, management, security and repairability—not a major hardware upgrade. Its datasheet lists two Android OS upgrades, five years of quarterly security updates from global launch, and a three-year warranty. Those are separate commitments: five years of security updates does not mean five years of Android-version upgrades. HMD says regional offerings may vary, so buyers should confirm support and warranty terms for the market where devices will be deployed. The HMD datasheet gives the support and specification details.
Fleet update control with HMD FOTA
HMD says administrators can manage Android software versions across a fleet, force mandatory updates, schedule updates for quiet periods, or skip an update that conflicts with existing systems. That control can help an organization avoid poorly timed interruptions, but it does not remove the need to test updates against business apps and workflows.

The launch material does not publish a full FOTA feature matrix, pricing, supported fleet sizes, administrator workflow or integration list. Buyers who need a multi-vendor unified endpoint management (UEM) or mobile device management (MDM) platform should establish whether FOTA meets those requirements rather than treating it as a complete substitute.
Enrollment and security controls
HMD lists zero-touch enrollment and controls including network lockdown, PIN-only power-off, PIN-pad scrambling, secure folders, disguised mode, encryption and remote wipe. The company also says administrators can disable biometric authentication during setup. In practice, PIN-only power-off can make it harder for someone holding a lost phone to shut it down immediately; a scrambled keypad can make PIN observation more difficult; and remote wipe gives an organization a way to erase a missing device.

These controls depend on configuration and deployment. Remote actions generally require the device to be enrolled and to reconnect for management commands to take effect. HMD’s announcement does not detail the precise policy options behind network lockdown, so organizations should verify that control against their own requirements. Test enrollment, lost-device response and update procedures before deploying phones broadly.
HMD says the Business Edition is Android Enterprise Recommended. That status indicates suitability against Google’s enterprise-management requirements; it does not mean HMD provides every function of a full UEM/MDM system.

What the EU data claim covers
HMD says customer data it collects from global phone and tablet device variants is stored and processed centrally on Google Cloud Platform infrastructure in the EU, and that this complies with GDPR requirements. This is HMD’s claim about its own customer-data handling, not a promise that employee-created files, app data or all phone activity are automatically stored in Europe. Nor does buying this handset make an organization GDPR-compliant: buyers still need to assess account settings, apps, cloud services, device policies and data-processing agreements.
Repairability: useful, but not effortless
HMD says the display, charging port, back cover and battery can be replaced using parts, tools and step-by-step guides from official repair partners such as iFixit. Its self-repair information says use of genuine parts, tools and guides from iFixit or Gsmnet is treated as an authorized repair and should not affect the manufacturer’s limited warranty; unofficial parts or tools may affect warranty coverage.
Rank #4
For an organization, repairability is a cost and continuity question, not a guaranteed saving. A repair program needs available parts, trained technicians, secure handling of devices sent away, and a plan for phones out of service. Compare the cost of a repair kit and labor with a replacement handset, and check local parts availability before setting a fleet-wide policy.
HMD also advertises DHL Express Door-to-Door Care for professional repairs; the datasheet describes this service as available anywhere in Europe, not worldwide. A repair may also affect the device’s original protection if reassembly is imperfect. Its IP52 rating is not waterproofing, and organizations should assess whether a device with that rating is robust enough for their working environment.

Is it suitable for professional work?
Where it can make sense
The T606 processor, 6GB RAM and 4G connection point to basic work-terminal use. The phone should suit calls and messaging, email and calendars, mobile forms, two-factor authentication, modest inventory or barcode apps, basic navigation and light document review. These are workloads where reliable support and fleet administration may matter more than speed or display quality.
Where the hardware may fall short
The HD+ screen, 10W charging and entry-level processor are trade-offs, not premium productivity specifications. Buyers should look elsewhere for intensive multitasking, demanding graphics or 3D work, advanced augmented reality, heavy video editing, large local datasets, high-end camera work or 5G. Organizations with rugged-device requirements should also check whether IP52 is sufficient for drops, dust and wet conditions; the rating is not a rugged certification.
Who should consider it—and who should not?
Potentially a good fit
- Small businesses, schools, charities or frontline teams deploying many low-cost Android phones.
- Field workers who need routine communication and business apps, with a longer stated security-support period.
- Organizations able to manage staged updates and evaluate whether repair is practical in their region.
- European fleets that can use HMD’s advertised DHL repair service and have confirmed local sales, parts and warranty arrangements.
Look for another option if
- Your workforce needs 5G, fast charging, a sharper screen or more processing and camera performance.
- Devices face harsher conditions than the IP52 rating is intended to address.
- You require a well-documented, vendor-neutral UEM/MDM ecosystem, extensive integrations or published FOTA pricing.
- Your deployment depends on assured model availability, local repair capacity or service outside the markets HMD supports.
Price and availability
European launch-period coverage reported a price of €199 in May 2024. That is a historical launch price, not a confirmed current price. The launch announcement listed Midnight Blue and described availability primarily in European markets. Current pricing and availability as of August 16, 2026, were not confirmed in the cited official materials; check the relevant HMD regional sales channel before planning a purchase. The launch sources do not establish U.S. availability, pricing, warranty or repair support. Mobile World Live’s launch report is the source for the reported European price.
Quick Recap
What to verify before a fleet purchase
- Confirm regional fit: Check the local LTE bands, official sales status, warranty terms, spare-parts access and replacement stock for the deployment country.
- Test the management workflow: Ask HMD about FOTA pricing, supported fleet size, integrations and administrator controls; pilot updates on a small group before scheduling a wider rollout.
- Exercise recovery procedures: Test remote wipe and lost-device handling with enrolled phones, and plan for devices that are offline when an update or management command is issued.
- Model repair economics: Compare parts, tools, technician time and downtime with replacement costs. Set procedures for data protection and chain of custody when devices leave the organization.
- Check continuity needs: Confirm that the model and accessories will remain available for planned expansion, and maintain replacement capacity if a device is damaged or unavailable.
