In March 2023, AI-chip startup Mythic announced a $13 million financing and appointed co-founder Dave Fick, previously its chief technology officer, as CEO. The round followed a reported late-2022 funding shortfall and restructuring. It was a financing and leadership reset—not proof that Mythic had become profitable or achieved broad commercial adoption.

Current-status note: Mythic later named Taner Ozcelik CEO; the company’s current team page lists Ozcelik as Chairman and CEO and Fick as co-founder and CTO. Mythic also announced a separate $125 million financing in December 2025.

Who rescued Mythic with the 2023 financing?

Mythic announced a $13 million round in March 2023. The reported participants were existing investors Atreides Management, DCVC, and Lux Capital, joined by Catapult Ventures and Hermann Hauser Investment. EE Times and TechCrunch covered the announcement.

EE Times reported that Mythic had previously raised $165.2 million. That cumulative figure is specific to its March 2023 report; historical totals can differ depending on reporting scope.

Why was the round described as a rescue?

Contemporaneous reporting placed the financing after Mythic restructured and downsized in late 2022 amid a funding shortfall. The description that the company was “running out of runway” appeared in reporting and a former executive’s account; it should be understood as a reported characterization, not an audited statement of Mythic’s finances.

The $13 million was intended to fund a renewed effort. Fick told TechCrunch that it would support technology, go-to-market work, and customer acquisition. The same report described a renewed focus on defense, with public safety, industrial, and consumer markets also in view. These were plans for the business, not evidence that the turnaround achieved profitability or broad adoption.

Why did Dave Fick become CEO?

Co-founder Dave Fick moved from CTO to CEO after Mike Henry left the role. His appointment accompanied the financing and the company’s effort to refocus its business. The available contemporaneous coverage establishes the succession, but does not give a more specific reason for Henry’s departure.

What does Mythic make?

Mythic develops processors for AI workloads at the edge, including computer vision. Its technical approach uses analog compute-in-memory: flash transistors represent analog values so matrix calculations can be performed in memory, rather than repeatedly moving data between a processor and separate memory. This is the company’s architecture; descriptions of efficiency should not be mistaken for independently verified comparative results.

The M1076 processor

EE Times described the M1076 as an analog compute-in-memory processor and reported specifications of 25 TOPS INT8 and 3 W. Those are product specifications reported in March 2023, not independent measurements. The article also described a company-reported 33-millisecond result for YOLOv5; that figure applies to that reported model result and is not a general latency guarantee.

EE Times reported that Mythic had shipped the M1076 to customers including Lockheed Martin. That supports saying shipments were reported, but does not establish shipment volume, revenue, or widespread adoption. Mythic’s 2023 plans also named a next-generation M2000.

What happened after the $13 million round?

The March 2023 announcement did not establish that Mythic became profitable, delivered the M2000 on schedule, or reached broad market adoption. Later company announcements show further financing and leadership changes, but announced funding alone does not settle those operating questions.
