Elster Group acquired Coronis Systems, a French wireless-technology company based in Montpellier, in a deal announced in June 2007. Elster said Coronis’s Wavenis radio technology would strengthen its advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) offering for utility networks, particularly water and gas.
Who was Coronis Systems?
Coronis Systems developed ultra-low-power wireless technology and was headquartered in Montpellier, France. At the time of the acquisition, the company had been founded in 2000 and employed 45 people, according to EE Times’ June 27, 2007 report. Those figures describe the company as reported in 2007, not its present-day status.
Why did Elster acquire it?
Elster presented the acquisition as a way to add Coronis’s Wavenis radio-frequency technology to Elster Integrated Solutions’ EnergyAxis AMI offering. The reports identified water and gas utility networks as intended applications. EDN’s contemporaneous account also described the technology as an addition to Elster’s multi-utility metering and smart-metering portfolio.
That rationale records the strategic intent announced at the time; the acquisition reports do not establish what commercial results followed. EE Times quoted Coronis co-founder and general manager Laurent Maleysson as saying: “I am proud that Elster Group sees Coronis Systems and its Wavenis technology as an important addition to its smart metering infrastructure and two-way communications solutions portfolio.”

What were the financial terms?
The June 2007 EE Times report said financial details were not released. It did not state a purchase price, so no acquisition value can be established from these contemporary accounts.

The available reports document the announcement and stated rationale in June 2007. They do not establish Coronis Systems’ later ownership or corporate status, or whether Wavenis products remain available. The reports also said Coronis intended to continue developing technology for utilities, meter manufacturers, and home automation; that was an announced plan at the time, not confirmation of later operations.
