What Littelfuse Bought from TE Connectivity—and When the Deal Closed

Littelfuse’s $350 million purchase covered TE Connectivity’s Circuit Protection Devices business, including resettable protection products such as PolySwitch—not all of TE or its branded products.

Littelfuse agreed in November 2015 to buy TE Connectivity’s Circuit Protection Devices business for $350 million in cash, then completed the acquisition on March 25, 2016. The transaction covered a specific circuit-protection business—not all of TE Connectivity or every product carrying the TE or Raychem name.

What did Littelfuse acquire from TE Connectivity?

The deal covered TE Connectivity’s Circuit Protection Devices (CPD) business, which Littelfuse described as a leading supplier of polymer-based resettable circuit-protection devices. The products are designed to help protect circuits from overcurrent conditions and can reset after the fault condition is removed, unlike a conventional fuse that must be replaced.

The business served automotive, battery, industrial, communications, and mobile-computing markets. That scope matters: the transaction was for this defined business and its included products and operations, not a purchase of TE Connectivity as a whole or of every TE- or Raychem-branded product.

When was the deal announced and when did it close?

Milestone Date and detail
Definitive agreement announced November 9, 2015. Littelfuse announced a $350 million cash purchase price. Littelfuse announcement
Acquisition completed March 25, 2016. The SEC filing describes the $350 million price as subject to working-capital and other adjustments. Littelfuse SEC filing

The two dates mark different stages: the November announcement was an agreement to acquire the business; the March announcement confirmed that the transaction had closed. The SEC filing says the deal involved certain subsidiaries and related assets and assumed liabilities.

How large was the business, and why did each company support the transaction?

TE reported approximately $190 million in revenue for the business in fiscal 2015. That is a historical figure reported by TE at the time of the sale, not a measure of current revenue. TE Connectivity’s November 2015 announcement

Littelfuse framed the purchase as a way to expand its circuit-protection portfolio and its reach in automotive electronics and battery markets. CEO Gordon Hunter called the business “an excellent strategic fit with Littelfuse.” TE’s stated rationale was to focus investment on harsh-environment connectivity and sensor applications; Chairman and CEO Tom Lynch said the CPD business would be better positioned for continued success and growth with Littelfuse.

Littelfuse’s 2015 announcement also estimated an approximately 20% EBITDA margin for the acquired business. The company identified EBITDA margin as a non-GAAP measure and said a reconciliation was not accessible without unreasonable effort, so the figure should be understood as the buyer’s estimate, not as a separately verified result. The announcement projected at least $10 million in annual cost synergies starting in 2017; that was a forward-looking expectation, not evidence that those savings were ultimately realized.

Where did the acquired operation operate?

At closing, the operation was directed from Menlo Park, California, with manufacturing in Tsukuba, Japan, and Shanghai and Kunshan, China. These locations describe the acquired operation at the time of the 2016 closing, not necessarily Littelfuse’s present-day manufacturing footprint. Littelfuse SEC filing

What happened to PolySwitch and the other product families?

When the deal closed, Littelfuse said it would continue producing and selling PolySwitch, 2Pro, PolyZen, and other products included in the acquisition. That statement confirms the company’s post-close intention; it does not establish that every product or part number remains available today in every region.

Littelfuse’s 2026 annual report describes resettable fuses as part of its broader transportation portfolio and notes that some industrial products are sold through electrical and electronics distribution channels. The filing does not provide a current, SKU-by-SKU map of the acquired families, regional availability, inventory, or retail listings. For a specific component, check Littelfuse’s current product documentation and an authorized seller’s listing rather than relying on the 2016 continuation statement alone.
