That price, stock, shipping and promotional bonus are not confirmed as available now. The package combined AMD’s Ryzen 5 5500, an MSI PRO B550M-VC WiFi motherboard and 16GB of DDR4 memory, creating a low-cost AM4 foundation rather than a complete computer.
What the reported $226.99 bundle included
| Part | Details reported by HotHardware |
|---|---|
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 5 5500, Zen 3, 6 cores and 12 threads, 3.6GHz base clock, up to 4.2GHz boost, 16MB L3 cache and 65W default TDP |
| Motherboard | MSI PRO B550M-VC WiFi, AM4 micro-ATX board with Wi-Fi 6E, four DDR4 DIMM slots supporting up to 128GB, two M.2 slots and eight SATA ports |
| Memory | TeamGroup T-Force Delta RGB, 16GB total as two 8GB modules, DDR4-3200 |
| Other items | An included CPU air cooler was reported. HotHardware also described a Rosewill 4-in-1 USB-C hub/adapter promotion; verify live retailer terms before assuming it is included. |
HotHardware described the price as 32% off, or $108.99 below its stated reference price. That comparison belongs to the April 18, 2026 report and is not a current market-wide discount measure.
Why the bundle is inexpensive
The savings come with an older platform choice. Ryzen 5 5500 uses AMD’s AM4 socket and DDR4 memory. As the deal coverage notes, an AM4 board cannot be upgraded to Zen 4 or Zen 5 processors, and DDR5 memory is not compatible. You can still build a capable budget or compact desktop, but the platform has a narrower upgrade path than a newer AM5 system.
What you still need for a working PC
The three core components do not make a complete computer. Budget separately for the parts your current inventory does not cover:
#1 Best Overall
- Graphics card: The Ryzen 5 5500 bundle does not provide a discrete GPU, and this processor should not be treated as an all-in-one graphics solution.
- Power supply: Choose a unit with the connectors and wattage required by the graphics card and other components.
- Storage: Add an NVMe drive in an M.2 slot or a SATA SSD/HDD.
- Case: The micro-ATX board needs a compatible case with adequate airflow and cooler clearance.
- Operating system and peripherals: Windows or another operating system, plus a monitor, keyboard and mouse, are separate purchases unless already owned.
A separate Micro Center bundle at research time
On September 30, 2026, Micro Center’s official page displayed a different Ryzen 5 5500 bundle for $219.99. It paired the processor with a Gigabyte B550M DS3H AC R2 AM4 motherboard and a G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB DDR4-3200 kit. The store page described the offer as in store only, limited to one per customer, with returns requiring the complete bundle. Store inventory and pricing can vary, so confirm both before traveling.

How to decide whether it fits your budget
Choose it when
- You already have, or have budgeted for, a graphics card, power supply, storage and case.
- You want a low upfront cost for a 1080p-oriented budget build or compact system.
- You are comfortable keeping future CPU and memory upgrades within AM4 and DDR4.
Look elsewhere when
- You want a clear path to Zen 4 or Zen 5 processors and DDR5 memory.
- You need integrated graphics and do not plan to buy a discrete graphics card.
- The complete cost after adding the missing components exceeds a newer platform that better matches your upgrade plans.
Before paying: a practical checkout checklist
- Confirm the listing still shows the Ryzen 5 5500, the exact motherboard model and a two-module 16GB kit.
- Check the final checkout price, shipping, taxes, stock status and any stated promotion; do not assume the reported USB-C hub is still offered.
- Verify that your case supports micro-ATX and that your power supply has the required CPU and graphics-card connectors.
- Price the missing GPU, storage, power supply and case before comparing this platform with an AM5 alternative.
- If buying the Micro Center version, confirm the specific store has stock and understand the one-per-customer and complete-bundle return rules.
The Bottom Line
The $227 figure was a past April 18, 2026 Newegg report, not a verified live price. At the time checked, Micro Center showed a separate $219.99 in-store bundle. Either option can anchor a budget AM4 build, but neither is a complete PC and both trade lower cost for limited AM4/DDR4 upgradeability.
