Switch reported on June 15, 2017, that opening its LAS VEGAS 10 facility brought the company’s Las Vegas Core Campus to more than 2 million square feet of data center space. The announcement also put campus power at up to 315 megawatts (MW). Those are historical company-reported figures, not a verified measurement of the campus in 2026.
What Switch announced in 2017
In its June 15, 2017 announcement, Switch said LAS VEGAS 10 added nearly 350,000 square feet and up to 40 MW. The company described the resulting Las Vegas Core Campus as exceeding 2 million square feet of data center space, with up to 315 MW of power. Switch cited demand for colocation services from existing and new clients as the reason for the expansion.
The figures describe different things: the square-footage figure is the company’s measure of data center space, while the MW figure is stated as power capacity. The announcement does not identify 315 MW as IT capacity.
How the campus reached the milestone
The 2017 milestone followed earlier expansion. In an August 13, 2015 announcement, Switch said the opening of SUPERNAP LAS VEGAS 9 would bring total Las Vegas square footage past 1.5 million. Its headline described the campus as close to 2 million square feet. These were successive company announcements about growth, rather than competing measurements taken at the same time.
#1 Best Overall
The 2017 announcement attributed this statement to Lesley McVay, then Executive Vice President of Data Center Services: “The internet doesn’t stop growing and neither does Switch.” It is company rhetoric about growth, not evidence of a present-day campus measurement.
What later figures do—and do not—show
A transcript of an August 7, 2020 earnings call records Switch executives describing the Las Vegas campus as more than 2.4 million square feet. That later, time-stamped claim indicates the company reported further growth after 2017; it does not establish the campus’s area in 2026. The transcript is available from The Motley Fool.
