Riot raised $30 million in a February 3, 2025 Series B led by Left Lane Capital, taking the employee-cybersecurity company’s total funding to $45 million. Existing investors Y Combinator, Base10 and FundersClub also participated. Riot says it will use the capital for international expansion, product development and hiring as it moves beyond phishing awareness training toward continuous employee security monitoring.
What Riot does
Riot sells software designed to reduce security risks created by employees’ everyday accounts, devices and files. The company started with simulated phishing and security-awareness training. It now describes its product as real-time Employee Security Posture Management: identifying employee-level weaknesses and helping people correct them.
Examples of weaknesses Riot says it can detect include weak password protections, unsafe file permissions and missing strong authentication. The platform then delivers guidance through Albert, Riot’s cyber companion, rather than relying only on periodic training sessions.

From phishing training to continuous posture management
Awareness training remains the starting point
Traditional employee-security programs commonly test workers with simulated phishing messages and assign awareness lessons. Those exercises can show whether someone recognizes a suspicious email, but they do not necessarily reveal whether that person has weak authentication, excessive file-sharing permissions or an exposed password today.
Riot’s broader approach
Riot’s newer positioning is continuous measurement of employee security posture. The company says it looks for weaknesses across the tools employees use and pairs findings with specific remediation prompts. That makes Riot closer to an employee-security posture platform than a phishing-training vendor alone, although the company’s original awareness capabilities remain part of its history and offering.

How Albert, Riot’s cyber companion, works
Albert is Riot’s employee-facing coaching layer. Riot says it can be delivered through Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat and email. When the platform identifies a problem, Albert is intended to explain the issue and prompt the employee toward a fix, such as enabling stronger authentication or correcting an unsafe sharing setting.
- Detection: Riot identifies an employee-level security weakness.
- Notification: Albert reaches the employee in a communication channel the organization uses.
- Remediation: The employee receives a practical action rather than a general awareness lesson.
- Measurement: Security teams can track posture and response over time, subject to the organization’s deployment and reporting configuration.
TechCrunch described a planned “karma score” as part of Riot’s pitch for making security behavior measurable and easier to improve. Riot has not established in the supplied materials that this planned score is a completed, generally available feature.

What the new funding is meant to finance
Riot says the Series B will support three broad priorities:
- International expansion: extending the business into additional markets.
- Product development: building a broader employee-security stack and an aggregated dashboard covering risks such as breaches, data exfiltration, infostealers and oversharing.
- Hiring: doubling the workforce.
Riot also says it aims to protect more than 10 million people by 2027. That is a company target, not a completed result or independently verified forecast.

Riot’s reported traction
| Metric | Reported figure | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Organizations protected | More than 1,500 | Riot-reported figure |
| Employees reached | More than 1 million | Reported by TechCrunch as a Riot figure |
| Annual revenue in 2024 | More than $10 million | Riot-reported and cited by TechCrunch |
| Increase in phishing attacks over two years | 1,265% | Riot-stated figure; not independently validated in the available evidence |
These figures indicate commercial momentum, but they should not be read as an independent assessment of product effectiveness or security outcomes.
Why investors see a market beyond phishing simulations
Riot argues that AI-assisted phishing and social engineering make occasional awareness exercises insufficient. An employee may pass a training test and still have an insecure setting, an over-permissioned file or a missing strong-authentication control later that day.
Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
The company’s proposed answer is a loop of measurement and small, timely interventions. That model can be more actionable than annual training, but its value depends on the accuracy of detections, the quality of integrations, employee acceptance and how an employer uses the resulting data.

- No reliable comparative pricing, contract terms or plan structure are provided.
- The planned aggregated dashboard and other expansion initiatives are goals, not confirmed completed capabilities.
- The supplied evidence does not establish a detailed privacy, data-retention or deployment model.
- There is no independent comparative performance data against other employee-security vendors.
Riot’s longer-term ambition
Founder and CEO Benjamin Netter told TechCrunch that his long-term vision is to build an employee-security company covering the full employee-security stack. He gave antivirus and a password manager as examples of products Riot could eventually offer. That statement describes a strategic ambition, not products confirmed as available today.
How to evaluate Riot against alternatives
Organizations comparing Riot with other employee-security vendors should examine the following points:
Quick Recap
- Scope: phishing and awareness training only, or continuous posture monitoring as well?
- Integrations: support for Slack, Teams, Google Chat, email and the organization’s identity and file-sharing systems.
- Remediation: automated nudges and guided coaching versus reports that require administrators to intervene.
- Privacy and deployment: what employee data is collected, who can see it, how long it is retained and whether deployment is agent-based or SaaS-only.
- Measurement: posture metrics, repeat findings, remediation rates and administrator reporting.
- Commercial terms: per-user pricing, minimum commitments, implementation fees and renewal structure; no dependable Riot pricing was published in the available evidence.
