The agreement was signed on June 25, 2008, and the transaction closed on August 11, 2008. Avago’s U.S. accounting later reported the same acquisition as $32 million in cash, reflecting a different reporting currency rather than a separate deal.
What Avago bought from Infineon
The acquired operation developed, manufactured and marketed bulk acoustic wave filters. Infineon described the business as developing “bulk acoustic wave filters for cellular duplexers and GPS applications.”
Cellular duplexers
The BAW products included cellular duplexers for N-CDMA and W-CDMA applications. A duplexer allows a handset or other radio system to use a shared antenna while separating transmit and receive signals.
GPS filters
The business also made filters for GPS applications, where filtering helps isolate desired satellite signals from interference.

Was the price €21 million or $32 million?
Both figures refer to the same acquisition, but they come from different companies’ filings and currencies.
| Disclosure | Amount | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Infineon seller disclosure | Approximately €21 million | Cash consideration stated in Infineon’s prospectus and financial reporting. |
| Avago buyer disclosure | $32 million in cash | Amount recorded in Avago’s fiscal 2008 U.S. filing. |
| Avago purchase-price allocation | $33 million of assets and $1 million of liabilities | Accounting allocation in the buyer’s filing; it is not an additional purchase price. |
The euro and dollar amounts should not be collapsed into one unqualified figure. The seller reported the consideration in euros, while the buyer recorded it in U.S. dollars under its acquisition accounting.

When did the acquisition close?
- June 25, 2008: Infineon and Avago signed the agreement.
- August 11, 2008: The transaction closed.
- Through December 2009: Infineon continued supplying products under a supply agreement.
The supply arrangement gave Avago a transition period after closing while production and customer relationships moved into the acquired business.
How Infineon accounted for the sale
Infineon reported a pretax gain of €9 million on the disposal. It also deferred €6 million connected with the supply agreement, recognizing that amount over the agreement’s term rather than treating all related economics as immediate income.

Why the transaction mattered
The deal added BAW filter technology and an existing cellular and GPS product business to Avago’s portfolio. Its scope was industrial and semiconductor-focused: Avago bought a technology and operating business, not a consumer retail product. The different currency disclosures, the purchase-price allocation and the continuing supply contract are why the transaction can appear differently across the two companies’ reports.
