Secureworks introduced Taegis ManagedXDR Plus in July 2024 as a managed detection and response (MDR) option for mid-market organizations. The service is now documented as Taegis MDR Plus, a service level within Taegis MDR. It combines around-the-clock monitoring and investigations with threat hunting, tailored use cases, analyst access, and professional services; the precise entitlements, price, and regional availability depend on current terms.
What changed from the 2024 launch
On July 16, 2024, Secureworks announced Taegis ManagedXDR Plus, positioning it as a more tailored MDR tier for mid-market companies with limited security budgets or staffing. The release described three levels: ManagedXDR, ManagedXDR Plus, and ManagedXDR Enhanced. Current Sophos Taegis documentation uses the names Taegis MDR, Taegis MDR Plus, and Taegis MDR Enhanced. Release notes dated June 8, 2026 record the move from “Managed XDR” to “Taegis MDR” terminology and identify MDR Plus as a service-level option.
The name has evolved, so buyers should use Taegis MDR Plus when asking for current service terms rather than assuming the 2024 launch description is a current contract. The company’s 2025 tiers datasheet lists MDR, MDR Plus, and MDR Enhanced, and notes that availability varies by region.
What MDR Plus includes today
Current Taegis MDR Plus service documentation describes 24×7 security monitoring and investigations on the Taegis XDR platform. Listed components include:
#1 Best Overall
- Threat detection and case investigation.
- Threat response actions and proactive response capabilities.
- 24×7 access to analysts and threat hunting.
- Custom use-case development.
- A technical account manager.
- Professional-services engagements.
The service description says customers receive four service units per 12-month service term for proactive services or specified emergency incident response, and that additional units can be purchased. The units are not a blanket promise of unlimited consulting or incident response; ask for the current service terms to understand eligible work, approval steps, and extra-unit charges.
The same documentation describes onboarding responsibilities for the customer and conditions for when onboarding is considered complete. The announcement’s language about tailored services is therefore best treated as a starting point for a scope discussion, not proof that every integration or customization is included automatically.

What Secureworks said it was adding
At launch, Secureworks presented MDR Plus as a step beyond its then-existing ManagedXDR tier. Its stated differentiators were customer-specific configuration of AI-enriched use cases, more AI-assisted threat hunts plus custom hunt requests, premium support with named experts and one-to-one guidance, and a choice of proactive services intended to identify security-posture gaps. These are the company’s launch claims, not independently demonstrated performance results.
Secureworks Chief Product Officer Kyle Falkenhagen described the aim as enabling mid-market customers “to take full advantage of the Taegis platform and our in-house experts to up-level their security to an enterprise level without breaking their budget.” That is an executive characterization of the offer, not a guarantee of a particular security outcome or price.

What the launch claims do—and do not—establish
The July 2024 announcement also said all three tiers had transparent inclusive pricing, direct access to security experts within 90 seconds, one year of log retention, and hundreds of integrations. Those figures and service descriptions belong to that announcement. They should not be treated as independently verified service-level guarantees or assumed to apply unchanged today; confirm retention, supported integrations, response terms, and analyst-access commitments in a current proposal and agreement.
The release attributed a separate market statistic to RSM US Middle Market Business Index Special Report: Cybersecurity, 2024: 30% of mid-market companies experienced at least one ransomware attack in 2023. Secureworks’ announcement did not specify the report’s sample size, field dates, or definition of “mid-market,” so the figure should be read with that attribution and scope rather than generalized to all companies.

How to evaluate MDR Plus for your organization
A managed security service is a contracted combination of technology, monitoring, and human response. Before comparing MDR Plus with another provider or internal operations, pin down the items that determine whether the service fits your environment and budget:
- Use cases and reporting: Ask which detections and reports can be tailored to your organization, industry, and compliance needs, and whether custom work has limits or separate charges.
- Threat hunting: Confirm what hunting cadence is included, whether custom requests are covered by the service, how findings are reported, and what follow-up is available.
- Analyst access and response authority: Verify access channels and coverage, what response actions the provider may take, and which actions require your approval.
- Included services: Get the eligible uses of service units, how proactive work is scheduled, what emergency incident response covers, and the cost or process for additional units.
- Telemetry and integrations: Map the endpoint, cloud, identity, and network data sources you need against supported integrations and onboarding requirements. Taegis guidance recommends the Sophos Endpoint Agent while listing other supported agents; it cautions against integrating two endpoint agents into XDR because that can cause duplicate telemetry or detections, or performance issues.
- Deployment and onboarding: Ask what endpoint and data-source coverage is required, which tasks are yours, what threshold completes onboarding, and when the service becomes operational.
- Price, contract, and region: Request a current quote and written scope. The 2024 announcement did not publish a public price list, and the 2025 datasheet says tier availability varies by region.
For agent compatibility and integration cautions, consult the Taegis endpoint-agent guidance. For a broader description of monitoring, investigations, response, and service units across Taegis MDR, see the Taegis MDR service documentation.
