In September 2025, CRN reported that AWS appointed David Richardson as vice president of Amazon AgentCore and Joe Hellerstein as an AWS vice president and distinguished scientist associated with Kiro. Those roles should not be read as a current leadership roster: later reporting said Richardson left AWS in April 2026, while AWS leadership and product reporting point to Swami Sivasubramanian in connection with Kiro and Agentic AI.
Who did AWS reportedly appoint in 2025?
CRN reported on September 18, 2025, that David Richardson was appointed vice president of Amazon AgentCore and that Joe Hellerstein was an AWS vice president and distinguished scientist associated with Kiro. CRN attributed some details about the roles to Business Insider. These are reported appointments, not a public AWS announcement confirming every responsibility. CRN’s September 2025 report
What happened to the leadership associated with the products?
AgentCore
The Information later reported that Richardson left AWS in April 2026, after about eight months in the role. It also reported that Ori Herrnstadt joined AWS in May 2026 as vice president of compute AI services, with oversight that included AgentCore and SageMaker. These are reported staffing changes; they do not establish a complete or continuing internal reporting structure. The Information’s report on Richardson and its report on Herrnstadt
Kiro
The Information reported that Swami Sivasubramanian continued leading Kiro. Amazon’s leadership page lists Sivasubramanian as vice president of Agentic AI, but does not provide a complete roster of leaders for Kiro or AgentCore. The Information’s report and Amazon’s leadership page

What do AgentCore and Kiro do?
They serve different parts of agent development. AWS describes AgentCore Gateway as a managed service that connects agents to tools and services, including APIs, and translates APIs into tools compatible with the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Kiro is an agentic integrated development environment (IDE); an AWS demonstration shows Kiro powers being used to build an AI agent. The demonstration connects the products in a technical workflow, but it does not establish the executives’ ongoing responsibilities. AWS’s February 2026 technical post

The reports document leadership changes around two AWS agent-development offerings, not a measurable result from hiring those executives. The available reporting does not quantify the hires’ effect on product adoption, revenue, performance, or strategy, so those outcomes should not be inferred from the appointments.

AWS’s business growth is separate context: CRN reported that AWS generated $30.9 billion in total revenue in the second quarter of 2025, up 17 percent year over year. That company-wide figure is not a measure of AgentCore or Kiro, nor evidence of an impact from the hires. CRN’s coverage of AWS revenue and hiring
In a 2026 AWS-authored post, Sivasubramanian wrote: “Today at AWS Summit New York, I shared insights into how agents are being put to work effectively and how they create momentum across global organizations.” The statement offers product context, not a comment on the 2025 appointments. AWS’s post
