Apple Pay uses eligible debit and credit cards stored in Apple Wallet. If you mean a bank account for Apple Card payments, Apple Cash transfers, or Apple Savings, use that product’s separate Bank Accounts screen.
Choose the situation that matches your goal:

Add another debit or credit card to Apple Pay
A debit card may draw money from your checking account, but adding the card does not link that checking account to Apple Pay. Wallet stores the card credentials used for purchases.
- Open Wallet on your iPhone.
- Tap Add Card (+).
- Choose Debit or Credit Card, then tap Continue.
- Hold the iPhone near the card, scan it, or choose Enter Card Details Manually.
- Complete the verification requested by your bank or card issuer, such as a text message, security questions, or the issuer’s app.
Apple’s current Wallet instructions are at Apple Support. The card must be eligible for Apple Pay and issued by a participating institution; the issuer, not Apple, approves or declines it. Some issuers also provide an Add to Apple Wallet or Add to Apple Pay button in their own app.
Use the second card when paying
- iPhone in a store: Double-click the side button on Face ID models or the Home button on Touch ID models. Tap the default card, select another card, authenticate, and hold the top of the iPhone near the reader.
- Apple Watch: Double-click the side button, scroll to the card you want, and hold the watch display near the reader.
- Apps and websites: Tap the Apple Pay button, then choose Other Cards & Pay Later Options or Change Payment Method.

Add another bank account for Apple Card payments
Apple Card is the Apple service that explicitly supports multiple bank accounts for bill payments. Apple says the first account you add becomes the default, but you can add another and choose it for an individual payment.
In the iPhone Wallet app
- Open Wallet and tap Apple Card.
- Tap the More button, then Account Details.
- Scroll to Bank Accounts.
- Tap Add Bank Account or Add Another Bank Account.
- Enter the routing number and account number twice for confirmation, then tap Save.
Apple’s account-management instructions are at Apple Support.
On the Apple Card website
- Sign in at card.apple.com.
- Open Settings and find Bank Accounts.
- Select Add Bank Account or Add Another Bank Account.
- Enter and confirm the routing and account numbers, then choose Save.
Choose a different account for a payment
- In Wallet, tap Apple Card.
- Tap the area beside Card Balance, then choose Pay, Schedule, or Other Amount.
- Tap Change Bank Account, select the account, and authenticate.
These controls are inside Apple Card, not the general Apple Pay settings. Apple’s payment instructions are at Apple Support. Before removing an Apple Card bank account, cancel any scheduled payments that use it.
Change the bank account linked to Apple Cash
Apple Cash is a separate service. Its documented process describes one linked bank-account record that you update or delete and replace; it does not present a multi-account list like Apple Card.

Transfer Apple Cash to a bank account
- Open Wallet and tap Apple Cash.
- Tap More, then Transfer to Bank.
- Enter the amount and choose 1–3 Business Days.
- If no account appears, tap Add A Bank Account.
- Enter and confirm the routing and account numbers, tap Next, and authenticate.
Apple documents standard transfers as generally taking one to three business days. The bank account must be in the United States; Apple lists limits of up to $10,000 per transfer and $20,000 in a seven-day period. Details and replacement instructions are at Apple Support.
Replace the existing Apple Cash account
- Open Wallet, tap Apple Cash, then tap More.
- Tap Card Details, scroll to Bank Account, and tap the listed account.
- Edit the routing or account information, or choose Delete Bank Account Information.
- Add the replacement details and confirm them.
Do not confuse funding with withdrawing
To add money to Apple Cash, go to Wallet → Apple Cash → More → Add Money. Enter at least $10 and authenticate. Funding uses an eligible debit card or certain prepaid cards already in Wallet; Apple says credit cards cannot be used for this purpose. See Apple’s funding instructions. This does not add a checking or savings account.
Add another external account to Apple Savings
For Apple Savings, open Wallet, tap Apple Card or Savings as applicable, open the account details, scroll to Bank Accounts, and tap Add Another Bank Account. Follow the onscreen instructions.
Apple’s eligibility rules generally require a personal checking, savings, or other deposit account owned by you at a financial institution in the United States or a U.S. territory. Business and trust accounts are not the described eligible type. See Apple Support.

What to do when a card or account will not add
If Wallet says “Could Not Add Card,” “Invalid Card,” or “Card Device Limit”
Use Apple’s troubleshooting sequence:
- Confirm that the issuer supports Apple Pay.
- Update iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, macOS, or visionOS.
- Enable a device passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, or Optic ID.
- Confirm Apple Pay is available in your country or region and that the device is compatible.
- Make sure two-factor authentication is enabled for your Apple Account.
- Check connectivity and Apple service status.
- Contact the card issuer if verification still fails. The issuer controls approval.

If “Add Another Bank Account” is missing
- You may be in general Wallet settings instead of Apple Card or Apple Savings account details.
- You may be trying to attach a checking account to ordinary Apple Pay, which accepts cards.
- In Apple Cash, the documented route is to update or replace the existing linked account.
- Apple Card, Apple Savings, and Apple Cash availability depends on region, eligibility, hardware, and software.
If bank details are rejected
- Recheck every digit of the routing and account numbers.
- Confirm the account is personal and owned by you where the product requires that.
- For Apple Cash, confirm the account is in the United States.
- For Apple Savings, confirm the institution and account type meet Apple’s eligibility rules.
- Check for scheduled Apple Card payments before deleting an old account.
Regional and device limits
Apple Pay issuers, supported devices, and features vary by country and region. Apple Cash is available only in the United States, including the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, according to Apple’s Apple Cash overview. Labels can differ on iPad, Apple Watch, Apple Vision Pro, and the web. Apple Cash services are provided by Green Dot Bank; Apple states that it is a service provider, not a bank.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add two checking accounts to Apple Pay?
Not to ordinary Apple Pay. Add payment cards to Wallet. Multiple checking accounts are supported for Apple Card payments; Apple Cash’s documented process replaces its linked account rather than listing several.
Can I add two debit cards from the same bank?
Yes, if both cards are eligible and the issuer approves them. Add each card separately in Wallet.

Does changing my Apple Cash bank account remove my Apple Pay cards?
No. Apple Cash’s linked transfer account and the payment cards in Wallet are separate credentials.
Can I add a business bank account?
Apple Savings eligibility describes a personal account owned by you, not a business or trust account. Other products may have their own restrictions.
Can I add a bank account outside the United States?
Apple Cash bank transfers require a U.S. bank account. Apple Pay and Apple Savings availability and requirements vary by region.
