What each Game Pass plan is designed for
Essential: the lowest-cost console option
Essential is aimed at a console player who primarily needs online multiplayer and wants a smaller rotating library included. It bundles more than 50 games, in-game benefits and Rewards at the lowest standard price among the console plans. It does not provide the day-one release access associated with Premium’s higher tier or Ultimate.

- PRECISION PERFORMANCE — Stay on target with a hybrid D-pad and textured grips on triggers, bumpers, and back case for improved accuracy and handling.
- SHARE BUTTON: Seamlessly capture and share content such as screenshots, recordings, and more with the new Share button.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY — Connect via USB-C for plug-and-play on console and PC, or quickly pair and switch between supported devices with XBOX Wireless and Bluetooth support.
- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
Premium: more games and cloud play for less than Ultimate
Premium expands the catalog to more than 200 games and adds cloud gaming, while retaining console multiplayer and benefits. Its defining trade-off is release timing: Microsoft says new Xbox-published games join Premium within 12 months of launch rather than arriving on the first day. That makes it suitable for players willing to wait in exchange for a lower monthly cost than Ultimate.
Ultimate: the broadest package
Ultimate combines the largest advertised catalog, more than 500 games, with day-one Xbox-published releases. It also includes cloud gaming at Microsoft’s best listed quality and shortest waits, plus EA Play, Fortnite Crew, Ubisoft+ Classics and enhanced Rewards. Those bundled memberships can materially change the value for someone who would otherwise pay for them separately.

- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
PC Game Pass: the focused PC value
PC Game Pass includes more than 300 PC games, day-one PC releases and EA Play. It is designed for PC play rather than an all-device subscription; Microsoft’s current listing does not state console access or a cloud-gaming allowance for this plan. A PC-only player who does not need console or TV access can avoid paying for features intended for other devices.
Which devices and features matter?
Choose based on the devices you will actually use. Essential is the straightforward console tier. Premium and Ultimate add cloud play, which can be useful on supported consoles, PCs, mobile devices, browsers, TVs, handhelds or headsets, subject to Microsoft’s regional and platform support. Ultimate is the only listed tier that combines the largest catalog, day-one launches and the top advertised cloud experience.

PC Game Pass is not simply a cheaper version of Ultimate for every situation: it preserves day-one PC access and EA Play, but it is not presented as the all-device package. If you alternate between a gaming PC and an Xbox console, compare the cost of a PC-focused plan with the console and cloud features you would be giving up.
How to choose the plan
Choose Essential if multiplayer is your priority
- You play mainly on an Xbox console.
- Your main requirement is online console multiplayer.
- A 50-plus-game library and in-game benefits are enough.
- You do not need day-one releases or cloud gaming.
Choose Premium if you can wait for new releases
- You want a substantially larger catalog than Essential.
- Cloud gaming matters, but the shortest waits and highest listed quality do not.
- You are comfortable waiting up to 12 months for new Xbox-published games.
- You play across more than one supported device and want console multiplayer included.
Choose Ultimate if you will use the bundle
- You want Xbox-published games on day one.
- You play across console, PC and cloud-supported devices.
- You value the largest catalog and the best listed cloud experience.
- You would otherwise pay for EA Play, Fortnite Crew or Ubisoft+ Classics.
Choose PC Game Pass for PC-only play
- Your gaming is centered on a Windows PC.
- Day-one PC releases and EA Play are the features you will use.
- You do not need the console catalog, console multiplayer entitlement or an all-device package.

- UP TO 40 HOURS OF BATTERY LIFE — Get up to 40 hours of wireless battery life on standard AA batteries. When the batteries run low, plug in the included cable and keep playing without missing a beat.*
The standard prices in the table are recurring monthly rates. Microsoft’s store listings state: “Subscription continues automatically unless cancelled through your Microsoft Account.” To prevent the next charge, use your Microsoft Account’s subscription-management page and cancel before the renewal date; check the confirmation screen for the effective end date.
Important limits on the advertised value
- Prices and introductory promotions are for the United States snapshot checked October 2, 2026. Taxes, currency, promotions and availability can differ elsewhere.
- Game libraries change as titles leave or enter the service.
- Cloud availability, supported devices, streaming quality and wait times can vary by region, platform, plan and network conditions.
- The advertised game counts are approximate “50+,” “200+,” “300+” and “500+” figures, not fixed entitlements.
- Online multiplayer language in the comparison applies to console access; PC multiplayer requirements can depend on the individual game and storefront.
Bottom line for your budget
Essential is the sensible minimum for a console owner who mainly wants multiplayer. Premium is the middle ground for a larger cross-device catalog and cloud gaming when waiting for Xbox-published games is acceptable. Ultimate earns its premium when you want day-one launches, the broadest catalog, the strongest listed cloud service and its bundled memberships. PC Game Pass is the targeted value for a PC-only player who wants day-one PC games and EA Play without paying for console-focused features.
