Short answer: Supply-chain reports have alleged that GeForce RTX 50 shipments could fall 30–40% year over year in the first half of 2026, followed by later reports of a smaller 15–20% reduction through at least the third quarter. NVIDIA has not confirmed either figure, a global production cut, or a permanent discontinuation. The reports most consistently flag the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, while later claims extend possible shortages to the RTX 5060 and other models.
What has actually been reported
Reports attributed to Taiwanese and Chinese supply-chain contacts on December 17–18, 2025, described a possible 30–40% reduction in RTX 50-series supply during the first half of 2026 compared with the first half of 2025. Coverage citing Benchlife identified the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5060 Ti 16GB as early candidates, but did not independently establish the percentage. Guru3D reported the initial estimate, while Gigazine summarized the model-specific claims.
On January 22, 2026, later coverage cited unnamed distributors, retailers and online sources claiming a 15–20% reduction through at least the third quarter, possible pauses affecting the RTX 5060, and very low shipments for some 16GB and high-end products. Those claims conflict with the earlier percentage and remain unverified. The Outpost describes that later rumor wave.
As of August 18, 2026, NVIDIA has published no production percentage or formal statement confirming these reports. Its official pages still list the RTX 50 family and provide buying-option links: RTX 50-series hub.

“Production cut” may describe several different events
The reports use supply, output and production interchangeably, but those terms can refer to different points in the chain:
- GPU-die production: semiconductor wafers and finished dies.
- Memory procurement: GDDR7 or GDDR6 chips allocated to a board design.
- Card assembly: add-in-board partners building finished cards.
- NVIDIA shipments: GPU kits or finished products sent to partners.
- Regional allocation: inventory assigned to China, Asia, North America or Europe.
- Retail inventory: cards physically available to consumers.
A reduction in partner allocations or regional shipments does not prove that NVIDIA reduced wafer starts. Memory availability, assembly capacity, inventory policy or demand balancing could create the same retail symptom.
Which RTX 50 models may be most exposed?
| Model | Official configuration | Reported risk |
|---|---|---|
| RTX 5070 Ti | 16GB GDDR7 | Repeatedly named as an early reduction candidate; no discontinuation confirmed. |
| RTX 5060 Ti 16GB | 16GB GDDR7 | Specifically identified in early reports; model-level production status remains unconfirmed. |
| RTX 5060 | 8GB GDDR7 | Later sources claimed a possible multi-month pause or difficult availability; this is not NVIDIA guidance. |
| RTX 5090 | 32GB GDDR7 | Later reports broadened possible shortages to the flagship, but evidence is inconsistent. |
| RTX 5080 | 16GB GDDR7 | Rumors suggested limited quantities; no verified allocation figure. |
| RTX 5070 | 12GB GDDR7 | Later reports suggested it might continue in limited volume; unverified. |
| RTX 5060 Ti 8GB and RTX 5050 | 8GB configurations listed by NVIDIA | Some reports suggested better availability for lower-memory versions, but no market-wide pattern is established. |
NVIDIA’s specifications are available on its RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 family and RTX 5060 family pages.

Why memory is central to the rumor
RTX 50 cards use GDDR7, with memory capacity ranging from 8GB on the RTX 5060 to 32GB on the RTX 5090. The reports describe pressure not only on GDDR7 but also on GDDR6, DDR5 and DDR4. AI infrastructure is cited as a possible source of competing demand for memory and accelerators, yet no public NVIDIA statement identifies a specific quantity diverted from GeForce.

Higher-capacity cards can be more exposed if memory cost or allocation is constrained, but a 16GB configuration is not automatically being discontinued. A memory bottleneck could affect procurement, board assembly or regional allocation without reducing GPU-die production.
Is the 30–40% figure global?
No reliable evidence establishes that it is global. The original estimate came from Asian supply-chain reporting and may have reflected Mainland China or broader Asian add-in-board allocations. A regional adjustment can produce severe local shortages without matching conditions in the United States or Europe. Regional limitations were also noted in later coverage.

U.S. and European buyers should judge availability through repeated local restocks, shipment cadence and street prices rather than infer conditions from an Asian channel report. NVIDIA continuing to list a card proves product support, not normal inventory.
What could happen to prices?
If allocations fall while demand remains strong, retailer and board-partner prices could rise, stock could arrive less frequently, and marketplace sellers could add large premiums. That does not imply a fixed 30% or 40% price increase. Street prices also reflect memory costs, tariffs, retailer margins, seller fees and scalping.
NVIDIA’s product pages currently show buying-option links but do not provide dependable current U.S. prices. Check authorized retailers at the time of purchase and distinguish new, open-box, refurbished and marketplace listings.

Should you buy an RTX 50 card now?
If you need a GPU immediately
- Compare the actual street price with recent price history, not MSRP alone.
- Confirm VRAM capacity for your resolution, ray-tracing, AI or creator workload.
- Check power-supply wattage, connector compatibility, card dimensions and warranty terms.
- Prefer an authorized retailer over an unverified marketplace seller.
- Compare suitable AMD Radeon models at AMD’s desktop graphics hub and Intel Arc models at Intel’s Arc hub.
Do not panic-buy solely because of an unconfirmed percentage. Buy when the card meets your requirements at a price you can accept.
If you can wait three to six months
Waiting is sensible when your current GPU is adequate, the target card carries a substantial premium, or you specifically want a 16GB model. The trade-off is reduced choice or higher prices if later allocation cuts are real.
If you can change platforms
AMD or Intel may provide additional supply options, but compare the exact model’s game performance, ray tracing, upscaling, drivers and creator-software compatibility. GeForce NOW at NVIDIA’s official service page can defer a hardware purchase for supported games, but requires suitable broadband and does not replace local GPU compute.

What would confirm or disprove the rumor?
- NVIDIA earnings-call comments or consumer-GPU shipment guidance.
- Allocation notices from ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, Zotac, PNY, Palit or other board partners.
- Distributor notices and repeated stock changes across the United States, Europe and Asia.
- Consistent street-price movements across multiple regions.
- Official end-of-life notices.
- Shipment or customs data showing a sustained decline.
- Memory-vendor commentary specifically identifying GDDR7 constraints.
A single anonymous retailer, video source or board-channel post cannot establish a global production cut. Rumors about a cancelled RTX 50 Super refresh are likewise speculative; no formal Super announcement is established by the available reporting.
Bottom line
A GeForce RTX 50 supply adjustment is plausible and has been reported in more than one rumor wave, but the headline 30–40% number is an unconfirmed, regionally sourced estimate for H1 2026. Later 15–20% claims and model-specific pauses are also unverified. Treat the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5060 Ti 16GB as potentially exposed, monitor local stock and prices, and make the purchase decision based on urgency, VRAM needs and acceptable street price—not fear of a guaranteed worldwide shortage.
