TSMC’s first Arizona fab is producing chips for Apple. Apple said the Phoenix-area facility made tens of millions of chips for it in 2025 and was on track to supply well over 100 million advanced chips during 2026. That does not mean every Apple processor is made in Arizona, nor that every product using an Arizona-made chip has been identified publicly.
The confirmed answer
Apple’s own announcements establish that TSMC Arizona is an active Apple supplier. In August 2025, Apple said TSMC’s Arizona operation was producing tens of millions of chips for Apple and called Apple the fab’s first and largest customer. In February 2026, Apple said it expected to purchase well over 100 million advanced chips produced by TSMC at the Arizona facility during 2026. The latter is a forward-looking purchasing estimate, not a reported final shipment total.
TSMC, meanwhile, said its first Arizona fab entered high-volume production in the fourth quarter of 2024. The fab is part of TSMC’s Fab 21 complex in Phoenix, not the entire Arizona expansion project.
Apple’s August 2025 announcement, its February 2026 update and TSMC’s April 2025 earnings transcript provide the official timeline.

How the timeline fits together
| Date | What was announced |
|---|---|
| November 2023 | Apple announced that Amkor planned to package Apple silicon made at the nearby TSMC fab in Arizona. |
| Fourth quarter 2024 | TSMC said its first Arizona fab entered high-volume production on its N4 process, with yield comparable to its Taiwan fabs. |
| August 2025 | Apple said TSMC Arizona was already producing tens of millions of chips for Apple. |
| February 2026 | Apple said it was on track to purchase well over 100 million advanced chips from the Arizona facility during 2026 and said Amkor had broken ground on its packaging project. |
Which Arizona facility is making the chips?
The operational site is TSMC Arizona’s first wafer fab within the Fab 21 complex in Phoenix. TSMC’s Arizona program is larger than that one factory: it is planned as a cluster of multiple wafer fabs, advanced-packaging facilities and an R&D center. Construction and production schedules differ across those projects, so “TSMC Arizona” should not be treated as one fully completed plant.
What process does it use?
The first fab’s confirmed production technology is N4, commonly described as a 4-nanometer-class process. “4nm” is a process-generation label used to compare manufacturing technologies; it is not a literal measurement of every transistor dimension and does not, by itself, identify an Apple chip model.
TSMC has discussed future Arizona production using newer N2 and A16 technologies. Those are expansion plans and should not be confused with the N4 production already operating in the first fab.

Is Arizona making Apple-designed processors?
Apple’s statements confirm that the fab is making chips for Apple, and Apple has referred to Apple silicon produced at the nearby TSMC facility. Apple and TSMC have not published a complete list of the chip models being fabricated there.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Design: Apple creates the chip architecture and product design.
- Wafer fabrication: TSMC forms the silicon wafers using Apple’s designs.
- Packaging and testing: Separate steps connect, protect and validate the dies.
- Device assembly: The finished chip is installed in a product, potentially at another location.
That distinction matters: official production for Apple does not prove that a named iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch model contains an Arizona-fabricated processor.
How many chips are involved?
| Figure | What it means |
|---|---|
| Tens of millions in 2025 | Apple’s description of chips TSMC Arizona was producing for Apple during 2025. |
| Well over 100 million in 2026 | Apple’s forecast for advanced chips it expected to purchase from the Arizona facility during 2026; no exact number was disclosed. |
| More than 20 billion U.S.-made chips | Apple’s broader 2026 figure covering chips from 24 factories across 12 states and multiple suppliers, not TSMC Arizona alone. |
Apple has said U.S.-supplied wafers will be used for chips in iPhone and iPad devices sold in the United States and worldwide. It has not mapped every Arizona-made chip to a specific product or region.

Where does packaging fit?
Fabrication produces a wafer containing many individual dies; it does not produce a finished, installable package. Apple announced in 2023 that it would be the first and largest customer of Amkor’s planned advanced packaging and test facility in Peoria, Arizona, which is intended to handle Apple silicon made at the nearby TSMC fab. Apple’s February 2026 update described the project as a $7 billion facility whose groundbreaking had occurred. That means the site was being developed, not confirmed as fully operational mass-production capacity.
Until that operation is producing at scale, some chips fabricated in Arizona may still undergo packaging, testing or other downstream work elsewhere. The public announcements do not establish an end-to-end U.S. path for every chip.
What “made in the USA” does—and does not—mean here
Arizona fabrication is a significant U.S. manufacturing step, but it is not the same as an entirely domestic Apple chip supply chain. Apple’s announced network also includes:

More geographic resilience
Having meaningful wafer production in the United States gives Apple another manufacturing location and reduces reliance on a single geography for at least part of its supply.
Capacity is still limited relative to Apple’s needs
Well over 100 million Arizona chips would be substantial, but it remains only a portion of Apple’s worldwide silicon requirements. Apple continues to use a global network of fabs and suppliers.

Advanced does not necessarily mean newest
N4 is an advanced process, yet it is not evidence that every current Apple flagship chip is made there. Newer process generations may be produced at other TSMC locations until later Arizona fabs are equipped and ramped.
Yield and packaging remain practical constraints
TSMC’s statement that Arizona yield was comparable to Taiwan indicates a successful production ramp at the time of that report. Output, yield, cost and downstream packaging capacity can change as the operation expands.
What comes next for TSMC Arizona?
TSMC has described a planned U.S. investment totaling $165 billion when its previous commitments and expansion are combined. The plan includes three additional wafer fabs, two advanced-packaging fabs and a major R&D center. TSMC has also identified N2 and A16 as future Arizona technologies. Those capabilities depend on construction, equipment installation, qualification and production ramps; they are not the process used by the first fab’s currently confirmed N4 output.
What remains unknown
- Which specific Apple chip models are being fabricated in Arizona;
- Which retail products contain those chips;
- The exact number of chips actually shipped, as opposed to Apple’s 2026 purchasing outlook;
- What share of Apple’s total silicon supply comes from Arizona; and
- Whether every downstream packaging and testing step for Arizona-fabricated chips occurs in the United States.
The evidence supports a precise conclusion: TSMC’s first Arizona fab is genuinely making a portion of Apple’s chips, using N4 technology, with production confirmed from late 2024 onward. It does not support the broader claim that all Apple silicon—or every Apple device—is now made in America.
