Which MacBook Air configuration fits you?
Choose the 13-inch M4 for portability and value
The 13-inch model is the lightest, lowest-cost option in this group and was the one attached to the $799 headline. It suits students, commuters, travelers and people whose work is primarily browsing, documents, video calls and general productivity.
Choose 512GB when local storage matters
The 256GB SSD can work for web and office use, streaming, cloud storage and modest photo libraries. Move to 512GB or more if you keep large photo or video libraries, games, virtual machines, developer toolchains or substantial media offline. Storage is not upgradeable after purchase, so the lower price comes with a real capacity trade-off.

Choose 24GB of memory for heavier workloads
Sixteen gigabytes of unified memory is the base specification reported for the deal and is appropriate for ordinary multitasking. Large creative projects, demanding development environments and multiple virtual machines can justify 24GB, but those configurations did not carry the same 20% headline discount.

Choose the 15-inch M4 for workspace
The larger screen is useful for split-screen documents, spreadsheets and timelines without moving to a MacBook Pro. It costs more and is less convenient to carry, so the premium is worthwhile mainly when display area affects your daily work.
Consider the 15-inch M3 only as a configuration bargain
The reported $1,299 M3 model included 24GB of memory and 512GB of storage, potentially offering more capacity per dollar than a similarly priced M4. The M3 is an older generation, however, and third-party or clearance inventory may have different warranty, return and stock conditions. Compare the complete specification rather than choosing solely by chip name.

How to verify a MacBook Air deal before checkout
- Confirm the date and live price. The $799 and $849 figures were reported on June 9, 2025. A later BrandsMart category page showed an example base 13-inch M4 price around $979, illustrating how quickly listings can change.
- Match the full specification. Check screen size, M4 or M3 generation, GPU description, memory, SSD capacity, color, keyboard layout and exact model or part number.
- Check condition and seller. Make sure the listing is new if that is what you intend to buy, and distinguish retailer-sold stock from marketplace, open-box, renewed or refurbished units.
- Read return and warranty terms. Confirm the return window, any restocking fee, who provides support and whether Apple warranty coverage is clear.
- Calculate the delivered total. Sales tax, shipping, regional restrictions, membership requirements, financing terms and promotional codes can change the final cost.
Where each retailer fits
| Retailer | Potential advantage | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | Direct support, standard returns and configuration choices | Its price may not match a third-party clearance offer; check education and trade-in eligibility |
| Amazon | Broad inventory and frequent discounting | Seller identity, condition, warranty and return terms; the $849 listing is historical |
| BrandsMart USA | Regional clearance pricing, including the reported $799 listing | Local availability, changing prices and whether the item is retailer-sold |
| B&H Photo Video | Reputable electronics retailer and configuration-specific clearance | Remaining stock and whether an older M3 price is still meaningfully below comparable M4 stock |
How to judge the value today
Do not treat the historical $799 figure as a guaranteed current benchmark. Buy the base 13-inch M4 when a live price is materially below the prevailing street price and 256GB meets your needs. Pay for 512GB when avoiding external or cloud storage is important. Select 15 inches when screen area improves productivity enough to justify the premium. Consider the M3 clearance option only when its extra memory and storage create a clear advantage and the seller, condition, warranty and return policy are satisfactory.
Also avoid an unqualified “lowest price ever” claim. AppleInsider identified $799 as an all-time-best price in its June 2025 coverage; that is a time-specific observation, not proof of the lowest price available in every later period. The WWDC connection establishes timing, not that the event itself caused the retailer markdown.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: $799 was an excellent June 9, 2025 price for the base 13-inch M4 MacBook Air—16GB memory and 256GB storage—but it was not a blanket 20% discount across the range. Verify the live listing, exact specification, seller, condition, warranty, returns and delivered total before purchasing.
