Short answer: The $30-off Aura deal most likely referred to the Aura Aspen, reduced from $229 to $199 on Aura’s U.S. store. However, that was not a live Black Friday 2026 offer as of August 18, 2026—Black Friday 2026 is November 27. Aura has also advertised the 10-inch Carver Mat at $149, down from $179, so the original headline is ambiguous without its product link.
Use the exact model and retailer before buying. The Aspen is the better all-around gift for mixed portrait and landscape photos; the Carver Mat costs less but is landscape-only.
Was the $30 Aura discount still available?
Not as a Black Friday deal. The documented comparable promotion was from Black Friday 2025. On August 18, 2026, Aura’s documented promotion was a separate Friends & Family sale scheduled to end August 24, 2026, at 3:00 a.m. EST. Aura says promotional prices can be limited by product and stock, cannot be applied retroactively, and generally cannot be combined with another code. Check the product page and checkout for the price that applies to your location.

| Model | List price | Advertised price | Reduction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carver Mat, 10-inch | $179 | $149 | $30 |
| Aspen, 12-inch class | $229 | $199 | $30 |
Those figures document Aura’s advertised pricing structure, not a guarantee that the same prices remain active. Retailers can differ: Engadget reported the Carver Mat at $139 for a Black Friday 2025 promotion. [Aura featured frames] [Aura promotion terms] [Engadget, November 28, 2025]
Which Aura frame does “latest” mean?
The Aspen is Aura’s newer mainstream LCD successor to the Mason. Aura also sells the premium Ink, so “latest Aura frame” is not precise: Ink is a $499, 13-inch e-paper product rather than the likely $30-off Black Friday item. Aura’s current model documentation covers Aspen, Carver, Carver Mat and Walden. [Aura model overview] [Tom’s Guide buying guide]

Why an Aura frame works well as a gift
The main advantage is preparation. Using Aura’s app, the giver can set up the frame, preload photos and videos, write a greeting and invite relatives to contribute before the package arrives. The recipient then connects the frame to Wi-Fi and sees the prepared content. Aura advertises unlimited photo and video storage without a recurring subscription, although uploads are stored on Aura’s cloud servers.
Aura says setup takes about one minute; a large photo library or complicated home network can take longer. Photos can be uploaded from the iOS or Android app, a computer web uploader (photos), or invited guest accounts. [Aura gifting guide] [Aura upload and feature details]

What the recipient needs
- Reliable indoor Wi-Fi for receiving new photos and videos.
- A nearby power outlet for the conventional LCD models.
- Aura’s app and an Aura account for setup and contributors.
- Tabletop space unless you choose the wall-mountable Walden.
All Aura frames are indoor products and include a power cable. The LCD models are not battery-powered and are designed around Wi-Fi and cloud delivery.
Model-by-model choice
| Model | Orientation and placement | Best for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aspen | Portrait or landscape; tabletop | Most families and mixed smartphone photos | Costs more than Carver models; no offline updating |
| Carver Mat | Landscape only; tabletop | Lower-cost shelves, mantels and desks | Portrait images use Photo Match; the frame does not rotate |
| Walden | Portrait or landscape; wall or tabletop | Large rooms and wall displays | Larger, heavier and more expensive |
| Ink | Portrait or landscape; cordless | Paper-like appearance and premium budgets | About $499, slower e-paper refresh and poor fit for video-heavy use |
Aura Aspen
Choose Aspen if the recipient has many vertical phone photos or you want a larger conventional display. Tom’s Guide describes a 1600 × 1200 display. It remains a tabletop product and needs Wi-Fi and wall power.

Aura Carver Mat
Choose Carver Mat when roughly $150 matters most and a landscape shelf display is appropriate. Aura’s Photo Match can place two portrait photos side by side, but it does not convert the frame to portrait orientation.
Aura Walden
Choose Walden when wall mounting and visibility across a larger room outweigh size and cost. Tom’s Guide places it in the 15-inch class with a 1600 × 1200 display.

Aura Ink
Choose Ink only for the premium e-paper experience. Aura lists a 13-inch display, cordless operation and up to three months of battery life; availability can vary by geography. [Aura Frames]
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Important catches before checkout
- Wi-Fi dependency: Without a reliable connection, the frame cannot receive remote updates. Tom’s Guide lists offline photo access as an Aspen objection.
- Cloud dependency: No subscription does not mean local-only storage; Aura stores uploads in its cloud.
- Orientation: Carver and Carver Mat are fixed landscape models.
- Promotion stacking: Aura generally will not combine a sale price with another discount code.
- Retailer policies: Aura’s own one-year limited warranty, 90-day website return period, 30-minute online cancellation window and no-price-match policy apply specifically to purchases from Aura’s store. Third-party sellers set their own terms. Aura says customers can contact support within five business days if its price drops after purchase.
For direct-store policy details, see Aura’s customer questions page.
Bottom line for gift buyers
If you find the Aspen at $199 from an authorized seller, it is a strong gift for a Wi-Fi-connected household that wants family members to add photos remotely. Pick Carver Mat near $149 when budget and a landscape-only shelf display matter more. Choose Walden for wall mounting or Ink for premium e-paper. Do not present the $30 reduction as a current Black Friday 2026 deal; verify the model, seller, stock and checkout price first.
