Salesforce launched Agentforce for Public Sector on August 19, 2025, and now markets it as an available product for government organizations. It combines Salesforce’s public-sector data model, AI agents, workflow actions and integrations to help employees and constituents with service requests, complaints, benefits, licenses, recruitment, compliance and code-enforcement work. It is an assistance and workflow platform—not an autonomous replacement for government decision-makers.
What Salesforce launched
Agentforce for Public Sector is built on Salesforce’s government platform, formerly known as Public Sector Solutions. Salesforce documentation now uses the Agentforce Public Sector name, although agencies may still see the older branding in interfaces and materials.
The product combines data, reasoning and action. An agent can retrieve authorized information, interpret the context and perform a configured task rather than merely return a scripted answer. Salesforce identifies the Atlas Reasoning Engine and Einstein Trust Layer as underlying reasoning and security components. Its public-sector page describes integrations with Salesforce applications, Data Cloud and external systems.
Agents can be configured with plain-language instructions, templates, prebuilt public-sector skills and low-code custom actions. Low-code configuration still requires security, legal, records-management, accessibility and program-owner review.

What government agents are meant to do
Constituent and contact-center service
Salesforce markets agents for frequently asked questions, program guidance, benefit-application support, license-renewal questions, case summaries, routing and always-on digital assistance. In March 2026, Salesforce announced that the U.S. Department of Labor was deploying an agent called “DOLA” in its National Contact Center, with SMS, email, Salesforce Voice and Tableau Next analytics. That announcement describes a deployment plan; it does not independently establish accuracy, savings or improved outcomes.

Complaint management
Prebuilt actions can help staff find similar complaints, group related submissions, identify recurring issues and summarize or prioritize cases. Those are triage and analysis functions, not final administrative determinations.
Compliance and code enforcement
Salesforce says agents can locate relevant codes, check for possible violations, recommend next steps and draft communications. A generated recommendation or notice is not itself a legal finding. Agencies need current sources, evidence preservation, jurisdiction-specific rules and human approval before official action.
Recruitment and workforce operations
Agents can search recruitment data, answer questions about hiring processes and policies, and reduce repetitive employee-support work. Agencies must separately evaluate bias, explainability, accessibility, records retention and the boundary between recruiter assistance and selection decisions.

Agentforce versus a conventional chatbot
| Conventional chatbot | Agentforce for Public Sector |
|---|---|
| Usually answers scripted or predefined questions | Salesforce markets it as able to retrieve data, reason over context and take configured actions |
| Often relies on narrow decision trees | Uses configured topics, actions and guardrails with generative AI |
| Typically handles a limited interaction | Targets cases, complaints, compliance, recruitment and constituent service |
| May be separate from operational systems | Designed to use Salesforce records, public-sector objects, Data Cloud and external integrations |
| Escalates when it cannot answer | Can be configured to summarize, route, update records or initiate workflows |
This is a product-positioning distinction, not proof that every deployment will perform better. Results depend on data quality, permissions, integrations, action design, testing and human oversight.
Data is the advantage—and a prerequisite
The public-sector data model is intended to give an agent context about a constituent, case, program, complaint or compliance matter. That can be more useful than searching an isolated document collection.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIt also exposes a major implementation risk. Duplicate constituent records, stale policy documents, inconsistent definitions, weak metadata and inaccessible legacy APIs can produce confident but unreliable outputs. Agencies should assess record completeness, document versioning, identity and role mapping, data classification, audit requirements and structured versus unstructured data before deployment.
Security, compliance and deployment choices
Salesforce says Agentforce for Public Sector supports FedRAMP High, Protected B and IRAP requirements. It also says customers can run the product on commercial Salesforce infrastructure, Government Cloud or Government Cloud Plus.
Those claims do not authorize every feature or use case for every agency. Coverage can depend on the edition, region, hosting environment, data classification, contract and configuration. The agency remains responsible for its authorization-to-operate process and operational controls.
- Which exact Agentforce features are covered by the relevant authorization?
- Where are prompts, retrieved records, logs and outputs stored?
- Can every retrieval and action be audited?
- How are least-privilege access and record-level permissions enforced?
- Which record changes, notices or recommendations require human approval?
- How do retention schedules, public-records requests and litigation holds apply?
- How are accessibility, language quality and non-digital alternatives tested?
For high-impact eligibility, benefits, enforcement, identity, hiring or legal communications, the safest design usually limits the agent to retrieval, drafting, summarization, routing or recommendations until a qualified employee approves the outcome.

What it costs
Salesforce’s current U.S. public-sector pricing page lists these annual-contract prices:
| Edition or usage | Listed price | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Public Sector Foundation Advanced Enterprise | $275 per user/month | List price; separate AI, infrastructure, integration and implementation costs may apply |
| Public Sector Foundation Advanced Unlimited | $500 per user/month | List price; scope and included capabilities must be confirmed |
| Public Sector Service Agentforce 1 Edition | $700 per user/month | Billed annually; listed as running on commercial infrastructure |
| Agentforce Flex Credits | $500 per 100,000 credits | General Agentforce pricing; usage-based and not necessarily the final public-sector quote |
| Agentforce conversations | $2 per conversation | General pricing; conversation volume may not reflect backend action complexity |
Government Cloud may cost extra. A production budget can also include Data Cloud, legacy-system integration, migration and cleanup, contact-center channels, security assessment and authorization work, training, monitoring, model evaluation, support and custom development. Salesforce says its prices are informational, subject to change and require a sales discussion for detailed terms.
See Salesforce public-sector pricing and general Agentforce pricing. Salesforce also advertises a 30-day Public Sector Solutions trial with sample data and no credit card; a trial does not demonstrate production security, residency, integration or authorization suitability.
Salesforce or Microsoft?
Microsoft is the closest broad alternative for agencies already standardized on Microsoft 365, Azure, Power Platform, Dynamics 365 or Entra. Its portfolio includes Copilot Studio, Azure OpenAI and Microsoft Foundry, Dynamics 365 Government, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Azure Government. Microsoft says Copilot Studio US Government is authorized as a service within Azure Government’s FedRAMP authorization, subject to reviewing the exact service, region and feature.
| Choose Salesforce when… | Choose Microsoft when… |
|---|---|
| Casework, constituent records and service operations already use Salesforce Public Sector Solutions | Identity, collaboration, data and workflows already center on Microsoft cloud tools |
| You want packaged public-sector objects, actions and CRM workflows | You want agents spanning Microsoft 365, Power Platform, Azure and Dynamics |
| The primary problem is Salesforce-centered service automation | You need a broader cloud and developer platform |
Microsoft’s pricing materials list a $200-per-month Copilot Studio capacity pack for 25,000 credits, pay-as-you-go and pre-purchase options; Microsoft 365 Copilot is listed from $30 per user/month. These figures are not directly comparable with Salesforce’s public-sector editions because licensing scope, usage, government terms and implementation differ. Review Microsoft AI for Government, Copilot Studio pricing and US Government requirements.
How to evaluate a purchase
- Start with one bounded workflow. Pick a structured case, complaint, license or contact-center process with measurable outcomes.
- Define authority boundaries. Document what the agent may read, draft, route, update or initiate, and require approval for consequential actions.
- Test the source data. Check duplicates, policy effective dates, identity matching, API reliability and role permissions.
- Run a protected proof of concept. Measure answer accuracy, source traceability, escalation quality, unsafe actions, accessibility, language support, staff acceptance and cost per resolved interaction.
- Model total cost. Include licenses, Government Cloud, integrations, channels, Flex Credits or conversations, authorization, training, monitoring and support.
- Contract for control. Require documented APIs, export and portability provisions, audit access, incident procedures and clear ownership of custom configurations.
- Provide human and non-digital paths. Tell residents when they are interacting with AI, how to reach a person and how to challenge or correct an answer.
Bottom line for government buyers
Agentforce for Public Sector is most credible when an agency already runs Salesforce and wants agents embedded in structured casework, constituent records and service workflows. It is a weaker fit for an agency seeking only a general document chatbot or one that would be buying an entire CRM, data platform and AI stack at once. Salesforce has described the capabilities and deployments, but independent evidence of accuracy, savings and constituent outcomes remains limited. Treat the product as governed workflow assistance, not automatic authority.
