Why construction teams need better progress data
Large projects often rely on site walks, spreadsheets, photographs, contractor updates, schedules and BIM files that do not stay synchronized. That can make it difficult to answer basic questions: what is complete, what is late, which trade is responsible and whether a claimed quantity has actually been installed.

Buildots’ value proposition is to create a more consistent comparison between the planned project and physical reality. Earlier visibility could help teams investigate slippage, coordinate subcontractors, validate completion and give owners a common view across multiple jobs. These are intended product benefits, not guarantees of a particular financial or schedule outcome.
How Buildots works
1. Capture the jobsite
Customers can collect site data with 360-degree cameras, drones or laser scanners, or use Buildots’ managed capture services. The capture routine matters: missed routes, blocked views, poor lighting and inaccessible areas can reduce what the system can verify.
2. Process the imagery and scans
Buildots processes the captured data and says captures are generally ready within 24–36 hours. Its product materials describe setup that usually takes a few weeks, depending on project size.

Outputs include progress measurement, deviation detection, documentation, trade-management information and warnings about possible schedule problems. “Forecasting” or “risk detection” is more accurate than treating these warnings as certain predictions: project teams still have to establish causes and decide what to change.
5. Feed decisions and commercial controls
Teams can use the results to reallocate resources, investigate sequencing issues, challenge reported progress and support verification of installed quantities for payment applications. The software is therefore more than a camera archive; the cameras are inputs to a model-and-schedule intelligence layer.

Buildots’ product page and solutions overview describe these capabilities. Results still depend on current BIM data, reliable schedules and a defined process for acting on alerts.
What the new capital is meant to fund
- Coverage of more stages of the construction lifecycle.
- AI models trained with historical project data.
- Benchmarking and construction-performance optimization.

- Additional product and research-and-development work.
TechCrunch reported that Buildots had more than 230 employees when the round was announced and planned to expand its North American operations in 2025. That is a historical figure, not a verified current headcount.

Customers and reported traction
CEO Roy Danon told TechCrunch that Buildots’ customers included Intel and roughly 50 construction firms in May 2025. Buildots’ own website displays organizations including Turner, STO Building Group, JE Dunn, Samet, Mortenson, Ledcor, Pomerleau, NCC, Mace, Wates and Kier.

Those categories of evidence should not be conflated. Intel and the approximate customer count were reported by TechCrunch; the logo list is published by Buildots and does not establish the scope, duration or current status of every relationship. TechCrunch also reported on Intel Capital’s 2024 investment in a separate article.

Buildots is targeting projects where coordination failures are particularly expensive: data centers, semiconductor facilities, industrial plants, healthcare buildings, airports and other large commercial or infrastructure programs. These jobs involve many trades, long schedules and costly dependencies. Data centers and semiconductor fabs are specifically highlighted in Buildots’ funding announcement.
The financing follows earlier reported funding, including $16 million in 2020, a $30 million Series B in 2021, $60 million in 2022 and a $15 million Intel Capital investment in 2024. Because strategic investments and round totals can be categorized differently, the company’s stated $166 million disclosed total is the safer figure than adding every historical report independently.

When Buildots is likely to fit
- Large or complex projects where schedule slippage is expensive.
- Owners or general contractors managing several projects.
- Organizations with usable BIM models and structured schedules.
- Programs needing standardized reporting across regions or business units.
- Projects where installed quantities, payment applications or subcontractor accountability are material concerns.
When it may be a poor fit
- Small projects where implementation and subscription costs outweigh the benefit.
- Teams without reliable models, schedules or capture routines.
- Projects whose scope and sequencing change faster than the baseline can be updated.
- Buyers seeking only simple photo documentation.
- Organizations unable to establish data-governance, privacy and access-control procedures.
Buildots does not publish standard list pricing. Its demo page directs prospects to sales, while its U.S. terms refer to subscription, one-time, capture, BIM-modeling, support and other fees set in an order form.
Limits, privacy and questions buyers should ask
Data quality is a prerequisite
Out-of-date models, incorrect schedules, unmodeled work, missed capture routes and obstructed views can weaken analytics. AI does not remove the need for disciplined project controls.
Performance claims need methodology
Buildots’ website says its approach can reduce delays by up to 50%, and another page says it identified and prevented nine weeks of delays on an average project. These are company-published claims, not neutral industry benchmarks. Buyers should ask about sample size, comparison groups, baseline definitions and other process changes.

Video-surveillance and labor concerns
Mobile or hardhat-mounted cameras may capture workers, visitors, conversations and sensitive information. Buildots’ U.S. terms place responsibility on customers to comply with applicable video-surveillance laws. A deployment should also address notice and consent, retention, access, regional privacy rules, union or subcontractor concerns and whether imagery could be used as worker-performance surveillance. The cited terms do not provide a jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction legal analysis.
Questions for a procurement process
- What BIM, schedule and capture data is required?
- Can the platform handle incomplete or changing models?
- Who performs captures, and what service level applies to processing?
- Which scheduling and project-management integrations are available?
- How are false positives, false negatives and obscured areas handled?
- Can subcontractors see only their permitted data?
- What is the total cost of hardware, capture, BIM preparation, onboarding, integrations and support?
- Can verified quantities fit the project’s contractual payment workflow?
- How is data retained, exported and deleted after project completion?
Bottom line
The Series D is a significant vote of confidence in software that turns construction-site evidence into operational controls. Buildots’ opportunity is broader than documenting photos: it is trying to connect physical progress, schedules, trade accountability and payment verification. The investment case will ultimately depend on whether customers have the data discipline and authority to act on the warnings early enough to improve cost, schedule and accountability.
