AT&T launched a Walmart-exclusive version of its Prepaid Unlimited MAX plan on February 3, 2022, at $45 per month. The offer included unlimited talk, text and on-device 5G data, 10GB of hotspot data, up to 100GB of cloud storage, and an option to enable HD video. That exact Walmart offer should not be assumed to remain available: AT&T’s current public materials show an Unlimited MAX plan at $55 per month with AutoPay, with different allowances and policies.
What AT&T launched at Walmart in February 2022
The contemporaneous launch report described Unlimited MAX as available through Walmart stores and Walmart’s online retail channel. Its advertised launch price was $45 per month. The report did not establish a complete activation contract or whether taxes and fees were included, so the $45 figure should be treated as the advertised monthly plan price rather than an all-in bill.

What “unlimited 5G” did—and did not—mean
On-device data was separate from hotspot data
Unlimited data on the phone did not provide unlimited high-speed tethering. The reported allowance was 10GB of mobile-hotspot data. After that allowance, hotspot use was not equivalent to the plan’s unlimited on-device data.

- If your device is very old please check to make sure "NANO" sim is the correct size you need

HD video was optional, not the default
Stream Saver or 480p video was enabled by default. A customer had to change the setting through AT&T Prepaid controls or by calling 611 to use the reported HD option. Therefore, “HD streaming included” is incomplete without mentioning the default restriction and activation step.
5G access was not a speed guarantee
A compatible phone and plan could access AT&T 5G where coverage existed, but 5G access did not guarantee a particular speed or signal at every address. Unlimited service also did not mean unlimited priority during congestion. AT&T’s current disclosures say data may be temporarily slowed after a usage threshold when the network is busy.
Historical Walmart phone and plan promotions
The launch report also described conditional Walmart discounts. These are February 2022 promotional figures, not current prices:
- AT&T’s 15GB plan was reported at $35 per month, reduced from $40.
- A 5GB plan also received a Walmart discount, although the report did not provide a complete current eligibility schedule.
- The Motorola Moto G Pure was advertised for as little as $19, reduced from $69.
- The Samsung Galaxy A12 was advertised at $69, reduced from $119.
- Reported iPhone SE and iPhone 11 discounts required activation of the Walmart Unlimited MAX plan.
- Referenced 5G phones included the Motorola One 5G Ace, Samsung Galaxy A13 5G and AT&T Radiant Max 5G.
Those handset prices were tied to eligible plan activation and should not be treated as ordinary unlocked-phone prices.

What Unlimited MAX costs now
AT&T’s current prepaid pages list Unlimited MAX at $55 per month with AutoPay. The current summary includes unlimited talk, text and data, 5G access and 25GB of hotspot data. AT&T also says it may temporarily slow data after 50GB when the network is congested. These are current public terms, not a confirmation that the original Walmart $45 SKU continued unchanged.
| Current AT&T prepaid offer | Published terms | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Unlimited MAX | $55/month with AutoPay; 25GB hotspot | Temporary slowdowns may occur after 50GB during congestion |
| Unlimited Saver | $35/month; 30GB at up to 3Mbps | After 30GB, speeds are reduced to a maximum 1.5Mbps |
| Lower-price unlimited offer | $25/month; 30GB at up to 3Mbps | Online-only and new-single-line restrictions apply; then up to 1.5Mbps |
| 12-month unlimited offer | $240 paid upfront, advertised as $20/month; 10GB hotspot | Annual prepayment; speed reduction after 16GB |
See AT&T’s prepaid page and current prepaid plan disclosures for eligibility, AutoPay, activation and device requirements. Prices generally do not represent a guaranteed total after local taxes and fees.
Is the plan still Walmart-exclusive?
AT&T described the February 2022 version as Walmart-exclusive. AT&T’s broadband-label index later listed “$55 Unlimited MAX Monthly (Walmart ISA),” showing that a Walmart-specific channel designation appeared in its regulatory plan-label data. However, AT&T’s current public prepaid pages do not clearly state that every Unlimited MAX version is Walmart-exclusive, and the label does not prove that the original $45 offer is still sold.
The safest interpretation is that AT&T launched a Walmart-only version in 2022, while the name and plan family later appeared in revised forms. Confirm the price, hotspot allowance and activation channel at checkout.

Walmart alternatives and retail caveats
Walmart’s current prepaid catalog prominently lists other brands, including Straight Talk and Walmart Family Mobile, alongside prepaid devices. The catalog is a retail snapshot, not proof that any listed plan uses AT&T’s network or has the same terms as Unlimited MAX.
- Walmart’s prepaid catalog currently signals a Straight Talk $45 Silver 30-day plan with 10GB of hotspot data and Walmart Family Mobile listings around $39.88.
- Walmart’s prepaid-plan category includes AT&T-branded devices and competing prepaid products, with availability varying by location and listing.
Check whether a phone is unlocked and compatible before assuming a Walmart device can be activated on AT&T.
Who should consider current Unlimited MAX?
- Customers who want AT&T network access without a postpaid contract or credit check.
- Users who need unlimited on-device data and moderate, rather than home-internet-scale, hotspot use.
- Walmart shoppers who value retail activation or device promotions, provided the offer is actually available at their store or online.
- Customers comfortable with possible congestion-based slowdowns after heavy usage.
Who should choose something else?
- Heavy hotspot users who need tethering as a primary home-internet connection.
- Customers who require guaranteed high speeds after substantial monthly use.
- Buyers seeking the lowest monthly price and willing to accept a 3Mbps ceiling or a 1.5Mbps reduced-speed tier.
- Anyone unwilling to prepay $240 for the annual option.
- Customers who need roaming or international features not expressly included in the selected plan.
- People in areas where AT&T coverage, including 5G coverage, is inadequate.
AT&T says 5G requires a compatible plan and device and is not available everywhere. Its prepaid service also supports many unlocked Android phones and iPhones, subject to compatibility checks.
Bottom line on the $45 Walmart offer
The February 2022 Walmart launch was notable because it combined a lower-than-then-standard $45 price with 5G access, 10GB of hotspot data, cloud storage and configurable HD video. Today, AT&T’s published Unlimited MAX terms show a $55 AutoPay plan with 25GB of hotspot data and a congestion policy that differs from the historical offer. Treat the $45 figure, 100GB cloud storage, HD setting and launch phone prices as historical unless a current Walmart or AT&T checkout page explicitly offers them.
