OpenTable announced its generative-AI assistant, Concierge, on July 15, 2025. Embedded in restaurant profiles, it answers questions about menus, seating, dietary needs, groups and dining experiences across more than 60,000 restaurants in OpenTable’s launch-period network. The important qualification is that Concierge launched as a research and discovery assistant—not as a universal autonomous agent that completes every reservation.
What OpenTable Concierge is
Concierge is a restaurant-specific AI layer inside OpenTable. Instead of searching menus, reviews, amenities and descriptions separately, a diner can ask a natural-language question from a restaurant profile and receive a synthesized answer intended to make the booking decision easier.

OpenTable says the feature uses restaurant-profile information, menus, reviews and descriptions, with technology integrations involving Perplexity and OpenAI APIs. It is narrower than a general-purpose chatbot: its job is restaurant discovery, restaurant questions and movement toward a booking.
OpenTable described the launch network as more than 60,000 restaurants. That was the company’s figure at launch, not a permanent guarantee of current coverage.

What diners can ask
Concierge is most useful when a search has several constraints. Examples include:
- “Does this restaurant have outdoor seating?”
- “Can it accommodate six people for a business dinner?”
- “What vegetarian dishes are available?”
- “What should we order for a date night?”
- “Is it suitable for a birthday or another special occasion?”
- “How do I get there, and is it near my office?”
A broader prompt might be: “Find a restaurant near downtown for six people that has strong vegetarian options, outdoor seating and a table around 7 p.m.” OpenTable’s UK restaurant-solutions material gives a comparable team-dinner example involving party size, dietary preferences, proximity and a requested time.
That makes Concierge more valuable for narrowing choices than for looking up a restaurant name you already know.

Does Concierge actually book the table?
The original announcement said Concierge would be able to book reservations on a diner’s behalf in the future. Its launch description centered on answering questions and helping diners build confidence before booking. Therefore, it is not accurate to describe the July 2025 launch simply as “an AI that books any restaurant automatically.”
There are separate OpenTable booking integrations. OpenTable has referenced OpenAI’s Operator research preview, Microsoft Copilot, Amazon Alexa+, Perplexity and other partnerships. Perplexity, for example, can show restaurant availability and hand the booking process to OpenTable. That demonstrates an AI-to-OpenTable booking route, but it does not prove that every Concierge conversation autonomously completes a reservation.
Use three distinct terms when evaluating the product:
- Answers: Concierge explains restaurant information.
- Recommendations: It helps match restaurants to a diner’s preferences.
- Reservation execution: The final date, time, party size and booking confirmation must be verified in the actual reservation flow.
How the answers are produced—and why accuracy varies
Concierge depends on the information available about a restaurant. OpenTable identifies restaurant profiles, menus, reviews and descriptions as inputs, supplemented by general web data and its AI integrations.

- Treat someone special to a night of legendary dining with hand-cut steaks, fall-off-the-bone ribs, and Fresh-Baked Bread.
- Texas Roadhouse Gift Cards are perfect for any occasion and will delight everyone on your list.
- Redeemable at over 650 Texas Roadhouse locations in the US and Puerto Rico.
- Use Texas Roadhouse gift cards for a fun night out or for convenient Online / To-Go orders.
- Famous for our fresh-baked bread and legendary margaritas – a true taste of Texas hospitality.
This creates practical limits:
- An outdated menu can produce an outdated dish recommendation.
- An amenity that is not recorded may not appear in an answer.
- A profile update may not reflect a same-day change in kitchen inventory, staffing or policy.
- A confident-sounding response can still be unsupported or wrong.
OpenTable tells restaurant partners to keep profiles current and upload their latest menus, including through an AI-assisted menu-import process. The company’s partner guidance is available in Meet Concierge: Your new AI-powered booking advantage.
Questions that require human confirmation
Do not rely on an AI answer alone for severe allergies, medically necessary or religious dietary restrictions, wheelchair access, holiday hours, dress codes, large-party rules, deposits, cancellation charges, minimum spends or whether a particular item is available today. Contact the restaurant or confirm its current policy before committing.
Concierge is also part of OpenTable’s booking marketplace, not an independent restaurant critic. Its results are constrained by restaurants represented in that ecosystem and by the information those restaurants provide.
Why OpenTable launched Concierge
OpenTable says diners abandon bookings when basic information is hard to find. In a PureSpectrum survey of 1,500 U.S. consumers conducted May 12–16, 2025, the company reported that:
The Tool Desk

- Redeemable at Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, Yard House, Seasons 52, and Bahama Breeze among others.
- Redemption: Instore
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards.
- 54% had researched a restaurant before booking.
- Those diners spent about 21 minutes researching.
- 27% had decided not to book because required information was too difficult to find.
- 17% had abandoned a booking because they could not find necessary details and did not want to call.
The survey was commissioned or presented by OpenTable, so these figures describe the company’s product rationale rather than independently verified, industry-wide behavior. OpenTable cited opening hours, menu details and addresses among the information diners commonly seek.
What Concierge means for restaurants
OpenTable positions Concierge as a way to answer routine questions without staff intervention, keep diners on a restaurant’s profile and potentially turn more browsers into bookers. It may also reduce interruptions from calls about hours, menus, seating and group suitability. Those are intended benefits; the cited materials do not establish an independent conversion or labor-savings result.
The operational requirement is data quality. Operators should:
- Maintain current hours, address, amenities and seating details.
- Upload the latest menu and remove obsolete items.
- Describe dietary options and group capacity accurately.
- Review deposits, cancellation rules and special-event policies.
- Check AI-generated answers and correct profile information when responses are misleading.
OpenTable later said that every restaurant on its network could appear in Concierge results. That statement comes from an OpenTable LinkedIn post and is not an independently audited ranking guarantee. As AI-mediated discovery grows, complete, structured and current restaurant data may become as important as conventional search visibility.

Booking Holdings said in its first-quarter 2026 prepared remarks that OpenTable was expanding Concierge beyond diner questions toward restaurant-operations and revenue-focused insights. That is a later product direction, not a complete public feature list.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.OpenTable restaurant software costs
For operators, Concierge sits inside a broader reservation and marketplace decision. OpenTable’s U.S. plans page, viewed in August 2026, listed the following prices:
| Plan | Monthly price | Network-cover fee | Website reservations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $149 | $1.50 per network cover after a 30-day free period | $0.25 per cover or $49 monthly flat fee |
| Core | $299 | $1 per network cover | Included |
| Pro | $499 | $1 per network cover | Included |
The same page lists a 2% service fee for prepaid experiences. These are U.S. prices and can change; fees, eligibility and contract terms should be confirmed with OpenTable. Basic is specifically labeled U.S.-only on the cited page, so the figures should not be generalized to every country.
The trade-off is marketplace reach versus cost and control. A restaurant that needs OpenTable’s diner demand, waitlist and reservation tools may value the additional exposure. A business that already generates most bookings directly may view the subscription and per-cover fees as expensive for software it could obtain elsewhere.

| Option | Potential fit | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Yelp Guest Manager | Restaurants wanting broad local-platform distribution and no-cover-fee positioning | Yelp’s own comparison lists approximately $129–$349 monthly pricing and promotes a Yelp Host bundle from $199; eligibility and terms apply. See Yelp’s page. |
| Tock | Tasting menus, ticketed events, prepaid experiences, deposits and guest insights | The public plans page presents multiple plans but no simple directly comparable price in the cited material. See Tock’s pricing page. |
| Resy | Restaurants seeking the Resy marketplace and American Express-linked ecosystem | No current public price sheet was verified here; pricing may require a sales conversation. |
| Direct or POS-native booking | Operators prioritizing lower marketplace dependence and control of guest relationships | It can reduce third-party acquisition costs but generally supplies less built-in diner discovery. |
The right choice depends on incremental bookings, cost per acquired cover, software needs, guest-data control and whether marketplace exposure justifies recurring fees.
Privacy and data questions
OpenTable’s launch materials identify Perplexity and OpenAI APIs in the technology stack, but they do not, by themselves, provide a complete consumer explanation of data retention, model-training use or the exact division of responsibility among OpenTable and its AI partners. Treat those as questions to review in the applicable privacy notices rather than assumptions about how prompts or booking data are handled.
Bottom line for diners and operators
Concierge marks a shift from restaurant search toward an answer engine inside a booking marketplace. For diners, it can shorten multi-step research, but its answers are only as dependable as the underlying restaurant information and should not replace confirmation of safety-critical or changing details. For operators, the opportunity is visibility and fewer routine questions; the cost is maintaining accurate data and deciding whether OpenTable’s subscription and cover fees produce enough incremental demand.
