That is about 5.5 times its $14.6 million post-seed valuation in August 2024. The financing gives the Indian startup more capacity to develop its Razor Crest Mk-1 rocket, but it does not yet prove that the company has a flight-ready engine, an orbital vehicle or a commercially reusable launch system.
What the valuation increase means
The Series A was led by TDK Ventures and BIG Capital, with participation reported from Accel, Prosus, YourNest, BlueHill, Campus Fund and Riceberg Ventures. Including the earlier round, EtherealX has reported approximately $25.5 million in funding.
The move from $14.6 million to $80.5 million is a 5.5-fold increase, or roughly 452% above the earlier valuation. Those figures describe private financing benchmarks, not a public-market capitalization or an independently audited estimate of intrinsic value. They indicate what investors agreed to pay in this round and reflect expectations about future technical and commercial progress.
The funding is intended to support Stallion booster-engine flight qualification, clustered firing of Pegasus upper-stage engines, higher manufacturing capacity and a faster testing cadence, according to TechCrunch.

What EtherealX is building
Razor Crest Mk-1 is a proposed medium-lift orbital launcher for missions to low Earth orbit and geosynchronous transfer orbit. EtherealX describes a vehicle that could operate in expendable, partially reusable or fully reusable modes, with recovery planned for both the first-stage booster and the upper stage.
The company’s website, now branded The Guild, emphasizes reusable launch capacity, multiple orbital insertions and rapid turnaround. Those are company objectives rather than demonstrated operating capabilities.
Projected payload by configuration
| Configuration | Company-targeted maximum payload | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Expendable | 24.8 tonnes | Projected target |
| Partially reusable | 22.8 tonnes | Projected target |
| Fully reusable | About 8 tonnes | Projected target |
The large gap between the expendable and fully reusable targets illustrates the cost of recovery hardware, thermal protection, guidance systems and propellant reserves. It is a design trade-off, not evidence that the final vehicle will achieve either figure.
The Pegasus and Stallion engines
EtherealX has reported two in-house engines. The specifications below come from company statements relayed in published coverage; the available reporting does not provide independent test data.

| Engine | Role | Reported thrust | Reported specific impulse | Reported cycle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pegasus | Upper stage | 80 kN | 323 seconds vacuum | Company-described “full-flow segregated cooling cycle” with an internally developed additively manufactured turbopump |
| Stallion | Booster | 1.2 MN | 306 seconds at sea level | Gas-generator |
Thrust is the force an engine produces. Specific impulse is a standard measure of propellant efficiency. Neither number alone establishes a rocket’s payload capability: structural mass, propellant loading, staging, aerodynamic losses, guidance, restart capability, recovery reserves and mission profile all matter.
Planned engine counts
The full-scale Mk-1 target calls for nine Stallion engines on the booster and 15 Pegasus engines on the upper stage. EtherealX has also reported plans for clustered Pegasus tests. A cluster can provide high total thrust and, potentially, engine-out tolerance, but it adds plumbing, controllers, valves, startup transients, acoustic interaction and many more failure points. Demonstrating an isolated engine is therefore only one step toward qualifying a clustered stage.
Why the SpaceX comparison needs limits
EtherealX and SpaceX share a broad idea: lower launch costs through reusable orbital hardware. EtherealX’s proposed recovery of both stages would be an especially ambitious form of reuse if it is achieved.
The present maturity levels are not comparable. SpaceX operates an orbital launch business with a substantial flight record; Falcon 9 routinely reuses its first-stage booster while generally expending its upper stage. EtherealX had not conducted an orbital launch in the coverage available for this article. “Aspiring competitor” or “SpaceX-inspired business model” is more accurate than implying commercial parity.

Testing, facilities and the development path
TechCrunch reported a target for engine testing in June and July 2026. As of August 18, 2026, the sources reviewed did not establish whether those tests occurred, succeeded or were delayed. A short hot fire, a long-duration test, full-duration qualification, clustered firing and integrated-stage testing are different milestones; none should be treated as proof of orbital readiness without specific results.
The company has described Base 001 in Tamil Nadu/Cuddalore as an upper-stage engine qualification site. Later coverage referred to a planned or developing Base 002, while company materials describe a large Cuddalore testing facility. EtherealX has also reported a planned 150-acre Andhra Pradesh campus intended to support integrated engine and stage testing. Public descriptions do not establish that every announced facility is already operational.
Reported schedule
| Date | Reported event | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| August 2024 | $5 million seed round | Reported post-money valuation of $14.6 million |
| January 15, 2026 | $20.5 million Series A | Reported valuation of $80.5 million |
| June–July 2026 | Engine-test window | Completion and outcome not confirmed in the sources reviewed |
| November–December 2027 | Technology-demonstration flight | Company target |
| End of 2028 | First full-scale commercial missions | Company target |
A separate report described the technology demonstrator as about 35 metres tall, with an eight-engine booster and an upper stage. That is not the same configuration as the planned commercial Mk-1, which is described with nine Stallion booster engines and 15 Pegasus upper-stage engines. A demonstrator flight would therefore be an important milestone, but not automatic proof that the final launcher is ready.

EtherealX has reported launch memoranda of understanding worth approximately $130 million, including arrangements involving Japan-based Space BD and Taiwan’s space agency, TASA. An MoU can document intent to cooperate without creating a paid, binding launch booking. It is not the same as a firm launch contract, a paid reservation, recognized revenue or a completed mission.

The commercial question is whether these discussions survive the company’s technical and schedule risks. Customers will need confidence in reliability, launch dates, insurance, indemnification, payload integration and regulatory approvals. They may also have to decide whether to wait for a new provider or use established launch and rideshare options.
Pricing and the economics of full reuse
The company has reported a target launch price of roughly $350 to $2,000 per kilogram, depending on configuration and launch cadence. This is a target, not a market-tested price. A meaningful comparison requires the same orbit and mission profile, payload integration, insurance, range and regulatory charges, dedicated versus rideshare service, reuse configuration, schedule guarantees, currency and contract terms. The figure does not establish that EtherealX is already cheaper than SpaceX.
Recovering an upper stage is the program’s central economic promise and one of its hardest engineering problems. The stage must survive a high-energy return, carry thermal-protection and control systems, reserve propellant for recovery and be inspected and refurbished quickly enough to support repeated flights. Repeatable hot fires, stable combustion, turbopump reliability, long-duration operation, restarts where required, thermal margins and multi-engine synchronization all have to be demonstrated under flight-representative conditions.
What must happen before commercial credibility
- Complete and publish credible engine qualification results, including duration and operating conditions.
- Demonstrate clustered-engine firing and integrated stage behavior.
- Finish vehicle manufacturing, ground testing and range operations.
- Obtain the required Indian and international regulatory approvals.
- Fly the technology demonstrator and verify guidance, staging and recovery systems.
- Show that recovered hardware can be inspected, refurbished and flown again.
- Convert customer MoUs into binding, funded missions and execute them successfully.
Bottom line
The $20.5 million round materially improves EtherealX’s ability to pursue a difficult reusable-launch program, and the 5.5-fold valuation increase shows strong investor confidence. It does not validate the Pegasus or Stallion specifications, prove two-stage recovery or make EtherealX an operational rival to SpaceX. Until engine qualification, a demonstrator flight and recovery tests produce public results, the $80.5 million valuation is best understood as a forward-looking bet on India’s potential launch provider rather than a measure of delivered aerospace capability.
