HP used Imagine 2026 on March 24, 2026, to announce more than 30 new business laptops and commercial configurations. The refresh is dominated by Intel and AMD systems; the Qualcomm machine specifically highlighted at the event is the HP EliteBook 6 G2q Next Gen AI PC. That does not mean HP’s entire 2026 business range has only one Qualcomm laptop: HP had already announced the Qualcomm-based EliteBook X G2q at CES.
The more useful conclusion for buyers is that HP is making Windows-on-Arm available as a targeted option while keeping Intel and AMD as the broad-compatibility foundation for most corporate fleets.
What HP announced at Imagine 2026
HP’s March 24 announcement covers a broad commercial-PC expansion, including refreshed EliteBook and ProBook systems, new security and manageability features, and HP IQ, an on-device AI software and experience layer. HP says the EliteBook 6 G2q is expected to reach HP.com in July, although country, configuration, channel and inventory can change the actual ship date. Read the announcement at HP’s Imagine 2026 newsroom release.
The “more than 30” figure should be read as a count of business laptops and commercial configurations, not necessarily 30 wholly different chassis designs. Screen sizes, processor variants, convertibles and related SKUs may be counted differently until HP publishes a complete model-by-model list. A contemporaneous report used the over-30 framing at The Indian Express.

The Intel, AMD and Qualcomm split
| Platform | Representative HP family | What it means for buyers |
|---|---|---|
| Intel | EliteBook X G2i, using Intel Core Ultra Series 3 | Established x86 Windows compatibility and familiar enterprise deployment |
| AMD | EliteBook X G2a and other EliteBook and ProBook systems using AMD Ryzen AI | x86 compatibility with local AI acceleration and an alternative to Intel |
| Qualcomm | EliteBook 6 G2q at Imagine; EliteBook X G2q announced earlier | Windows-on-Arm designs aimed at low power, mobility and AI capability |
HP introduced the EliteBook X family with all three processor choices at CES, describing customer choice among AMD, Intel and Qualcomm. The CES announcement identifies the EliteBook X G2i, G2a and G2q platforms and is available at HP’s CES commercial-PC release. In this generation, the suffixes function as platform indicators: i for Intel, a for AMD and q for Qualcomm. That convention applies to these related products and should not be treated as a universal rule for every HP line.
Why Qualcomm is the minority option
HP’s mix is a strategic signal, not proof that Qualcomm has failed. Most corporate buyers still need predictable support for x86 Windows applications, legacy VPN and security agents, specialist drivers, line-of-business software, imaging tools and older peripherals. Intel and AMD systems fit those established processes with fewer architecture-specific tests.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon-based machines can be compelling when a company’s workload is controlled. Their potential advantages include long battery life, low power draw, quiet and thin designs, integrated cellular connectivity on supported configurations, and strong neural-processing performance. But Windows-on-Arm compatibility must be checked application by application. An x86 program may run through emulation, while a kernel-level driver, endpoint agent, VPN client, smart-card reader or scanner may require a native Arm64 version—or may not be supported.
That makes the EliteBook 6 G2q a sensible pilot candidate for browser-based work, Microsoft 365, conferencing and mobile users, rather than an automatic replacement for every existing x86 fleet. HP’s business-laptop area is at HP EliteBook.

What HP’s AI specifications do—and do not—tell you
HP markets these systems as AI PCs and quotes different neural-processing figures for the EliteBook X variants:
| Model | HP-quoted AI figures |
|---|---|
| EliteBook X G2q (Qualcomm) | Up to 85 NPU TOPS |
| EliteBook X G2i (Intel) | Up to 50 NPU TOPS and up to 180 platform TOPS |
| EliteBook X G2a (AMD) | Up to 55 NPU TOPS |
These are vendor-supplied theoretical throughput figures, not independent benchmarks. TOPS does not directly predict application speed, battery endurance, thermals or whole-system performance. Nor does a high NPU number resolve software compatibility or fleet-management requirements.
HP IQ is described as an on-device AI system for interacting with and managing devices. HP says availability is staged, so the software experience and rollout timing can vary by product. Copilot+ or AI-PC positioning likewise does not guarantee that a particular enterprise application, security stack or peripheral will work on every architecture.
Which platform fits which buyer?
Choose Intel when compatibility is the priority
- Your organization relies on legacy Windows software, specialist drivers or existing x86 images.
- IT wants the least disruption to deployment, security and support workflows.
- Users need the widest predictable application and peripheral support.
Choose AMD for an x86 alternative
- You want native x86 Windows compatibility with Ryzen AI acceleration.
- Multicore performance or integrated-graphics value matters.
- Procurement wants an alternative to Intel without moving the fleet to Arm.
Choose Qualcomm for validated, mobility-focused workloads
- Battery efficiency, low noise and portability outweigh maximum legacy compatibility.
- The software estate is browser-based, Microsoft 365-centric or confirmed Arm-compatible.
- IT can run a pilot and test endpoint protection, VPN, identity, docking and specialty peripherals before wider deployment.
Questions to resolve before ordering
- Ask HP or the reseller for the exact CPU, memory, storage, display and wireless configuration available in your country.
- Confirm whether Windows 11 Pro is included on the specific business SKU.
- Validate endpoint-management, VPN, EDR, identity and encryption tools on the Qualcomm model.
- Check whether required applications are native Arm64, emulated or unsupported.
- Test docks, printers, smart-card readers, scanners and other specialty peripherals.
- Confirm warranty, onsite-support terms, memory expandability and storage options.
- Request the battery test method and configuration before comparing endurance claims.
Availability, pricing and procurement
HP’s Imagine release gives an expected July HP.com availability for the EliteBook 6 G2q, not a universal global launch date. Commercial laptops are also sold through regional HP stores, distributors and enterprise resellers, so configurations and ship dates can differ.

The announcement does not establish one price for the more-than-30-system range. A meaningful comparison requires the exact processor, display, memory, storage, operating system, warranty and sales channel. Enterprise buyers may need an HP or reseller quote; a consumer configuration’s price is not a reliable proxy for a similarly named business SKU.
Organizations standardizing on HP can separately evaluate integrated offerings such as HP Wolf Security for Business and optional HP Care Pack services, weighing their cost against downtime, support and fleet-management needs.
The timeline matters
On January 5–6, 2026, HP introduced the EliteBook X platform at CES with Intel, AMD and Qualcomm variants. On March 24, it expanded the wider commercial range at Imagine 2026 and highlighted the EliteBook 6 G2q. Counting only the Imagine announcement therefore produces one highlighted Qualcomm family; counting HP’s broader 2026 commercial announcements also includes the earlier EliteBook X G2q.
HP’s strategy is consequently not “Qualcomm everywhere.” It is platform choice with different risk profiles: Intel and AMD for broad x86 deployment, and Qualcomm for buyers prepared to validate Windows-on-Arm in exchange for mobility and AI-related advantages.
