One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFor a Zerodha demat account, “Client ID” usually means your 8-digit BO ID (Beneficiary Owner ID). You can find it in Console → Account → Demat. That page also shows your 8-digit DP ID and complete 16-digit Demat ID. If a form specifically requests 16 digits, enter the full Demat ID instead of only the BO ID.
Terminology is not consistent across CDSL, brokers and registrars, so use the field’s required digit count and description—not the label alone.
Client ID, BO ID, DP ID and Demat ID compared
| Identifier | Length or format | What it identifies | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kite User ID (trading ID) | Alphanumeric | Your Zerodha trading-platform login | Signing in to Kite; Zerodha explains recovery through its forgot-user-ID flow |
| Client ID / BO ID | 8 digits | Your individual CDSL demat account | CDSL and demat forms that request an 8-digit client or BO number |
| DP ID | 8 digits | The depository participant—in this case Zerodha’s CDSL relationship | Entered separately when a form has distinct DP ID and client-ID fields |
| Demat ID | 16 digits | The complete CDSL account number | Forms requiring the full demat or BO number |
| UCC | Broker/exchange client code | Your trading relationship in exchange and clearing records | Trading, exchange or broker back-office mapping; it is not automatically your BO ID |
Zerodha describes the Demat ID as the DP ID followed by the BO ID. Its support documentation lists DP IDs 12081600 and 12081601; your own BO ID is the customer-specific eight-digit part. Check the value displayed in Console rather than relying on an example. See Zerodha’s identifier explanation.
How the 16 digits are assembled
DP ID: 12081600 BO ID: XXXXXXXX Demat ID: 12081600XXXXXXXX
The Xs are placeholders, not a real account number. Never post your complete demat number publicly.

How to find your Zerodha Client ID
- Sign in to Console using your Zerodha credentials.
- Open Account.
- Select Demat.
- Copy the BO ID for an eight-digit Client ID field, or copy the complete Demat ID when 16 digits are requested.
The Demat page displays the DP ID, BO ID and Demat ID together. Zerodha also directs customers to its account-details area at console.zerodha.com/account. Interface labels can change, but the underlying terms—BO ID, DP ID and Demat ID—are the reliable way to identify the number.
Is the Client ID the same as your Kite User ID?
No. The Kite User ID (or registered phone number) is a login credential for the trading platform. The BO ID/Client ID identifies your demat account with CDSL. A website asking for a demat or CDSL Client ID generally does not want the ID you type to log in to Kite.
Which Zerodha number should you enter?
Use this decision rule before submitting a form:
| Form or situation | Number to use |
|---|---|
| Kite login | Kite User ID or registered phone number |
| Client ID field explicitly limited to 8 digits | Your 8-digit BO ID |
| Demat ID or BO ID field requiring 16 digits | Your full 16-digit Demat ID (DP ID + BO ID) |
| Separate DP ID and Client ID fields | DP ID in one field and BO ID in the other |
| Share transfer to a Zerodha demat account | The receiving account’s correct BO ID or full CDSL number, exactly as requested |
| Trading-client, UCC or exchange field | The specified UCC or client code—not the BO ID unless the form explicitly says so |
CDSL Easi and Easiest: why the label can mislead
CDSL registration screens do not always use “BO ID” and “Client ID” consistently. Zerodha’s Easiest instructions tell customers to enter the eight-digit DP ID followed by the eight-digit demat Client ID/BO ID—effectively the 16-digit number in sequence. Its Easi registration guidance likewise specifies the 16-digit Demat ID under BO ID.

- As a day trader, you can live and work anywhere in the world. You can decide when to work and when not to work.
- You only answer to yourself. That is the life of the successful day trader. Many people aspire to it, but very few succeed. Day trading is not gambling or an online poker game.
- To be successful at day trading you need the right tools and you need to be motivated, to work hard, and to persevere.
Therefore, count the requested digits and check whether the form provides a separate DP ID box. Zerodha says individual Easiest approvals may take up to 24 working hours, with CDSL activation taking up to 48 working hours after approval; these are operational estimates, not guarantees.
IPO applications: check the exact field
A UPI IPO application normally uses your UPI ID and bank details rather than your Kite login. If an IPO application or registrar form includes a demat-identification field, it may request either the 16-digit Demat ID or the eight-digit BO ID. IPOs do not all use the same layout, so follow that application’s stated format.
Share transfers: verify before authorising
Use the BO ID belonging to the specific demat account that will receive the securities. Confirm the recipient name, depository (CDSL), DP details and digit count before you submit. Zerodha warns that a transfer sent to an incorrect BO ID may not be reversible; its trusted-account guidance is at this support page.

Client ID versus UCC
A BO ID is a depository identifier. A UCC (Unique Client Code) is a trading-client code mapped in broker, exchange and clearing records. Zerodha’s explanation of UCC mapping notes that one Zerodha demat account can be associated with multiple UCCs when a customer also has other broker relationships. Read its guidance on UCC and demat mapping if your message mentions a delinked UCC.
If the number is missing or looks wrong
- Log in directly to Console and revisit Account → Demat; avoid copying an unverified number from an old message.
- Search your registered email for the demat-account opening or account-details communication.
- Request a CMR (Client Master Report) copy when formal proof of registered demat details is required. Zerodha references the CMR route in its CDSL registration guidance.
- Contact Zerodha Support if the Demat section is unavailable or its details do not match your records.
Special account situations
Use the BO ID for the particular demat account that holds—or is meant to receive—the securities. If you have multiple Zerodha or other-broker accounts, do not reuse a number from another account. Joint, NRI and non-individual accounts can have different registration and verification requirements. Zerodha states that non-individual Easiest registration uses a support-ticket and physical-form process, and NRI users may encounter limitations involving registered mobile details; confirm the applicable process with Zerodha before proceeding.

Can I find the Client ID in Kite?
Use Console → Account → Demat as the authoritative lookup. Kite primarily displays your trading login identifier, not necessarily the BO ID.
What if I have multiple demat accounts?
Use the BO ID for the specific account that holds or will receive the securities, and verify it in that account’s details.
Does the process differ for NRI, joint or non-individual accounts?
It can. Non-individual Easiest registration and some NRI verification steps have additional requirements, so confirm the process with Zerodha Support.
