Apple AirPods Pro 2 Hit $189.99 for the 2024 Holidays—but That Wasn’t the Season’s Lowest Price

AirPods Pro 2 reached a reported $189.99 during the 2024 holidays, but an earlier price near $153 challenges the record-low claim. Learn which version was sold, who should buy it and how it compares with newer alternatives.

Bottom line: the USB-C version of Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 was reported at $189.99 during the U.S. 2024 holiday shopping period, versus an approximately $249 list price. That was a worthwhile discount, but it was not demonstrably a season-wide record low: contemporaneous coverage cited an earlier price of about $153. The promotion is expired, so treat $189.99 as historical context rather than a live August 2026 offer.

What the holiday deal actually was

Deal coverage reported the second-generation AirPods Pro with a USB-C charging case at $189.99 during the 2024 Black Friday and holiday period. TechRadar associated that price with Walmart and compared it with an approximately $249 regular price, a discount of about $59, or 24%.

Other coverage and price-history commentary referred to Amazon or different retailers. Those listings should not be combined: seller, condition, bundle, color, coupon requirements and fulfillment can all change the effective deal. The exact promotion is no longer established as available. See the period reporting from TechRadar and the contemporaneous price-history criticism at ToolGuyd.

Was $189.99 really a record low?

Not under a broad, all-retailer definition. ToolGuyd noted that an earlier report during the same holiday season put AirPods Pro 2 at approximately $153. Later deal coverage also cited prices of $153.99 and $168.99 during other promotions. That makes $189.99 a strong sale price, but not a supported “lowest price ever.”

“Record low” is meaningful only when the comparison is defined: country, retailer, product variant, condition, color, coupon or membership requirement, and the period being tracked. A short-lived flash price, a clipped coupon, Walmart Marketplace listing or refurbished unit may not be comparable with new stock sold directly by a retailer. The safer description is an approximately 24% holiday discount from the advertised $249 price.

What buyers received

The discounted product was the AirPods Pro 2 generation, updated with a USB-C case. Apple’s product information is at Apple; check the listing carefully because older Lightning-case inventory can still appear in search results.

Apple AirPods Pro (2nd generation) with MagSafe Charging Case (USB-C) (Renewed)
  • This pre-owned product is not Apple certified, but has been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.
  • Noise control: active noise cancellation, plus a sealed silicone-tip fit that can reduce outside sound even when ANC is off.
  • Apple processing: the H2 chip supports the Pro 2 feature set, including Adaptive Audio and Conversation Awareness where supported by the device and software.
  • Spatial audio: Personalized Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos-compatible content are designed for Apple devices and compatible services.
  • Locateable case: the charging case works with Find My, helping an owner locate the case; it is not literally impossible to lose.
  • Battery: Apple lists up to six hours of listening on a charge and up to 30 hours with the case for the USB-C AirPods Pro 2 configuration. Actual endurance varies with features, volume, software and use.
  • Apple integration: pairing, automatic switching and device controls are especially convenient across an iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Descriptions such as “top-tier ANC” or “excellent sound” are comparative reviewer judgments, not a single Apple measurement. The practical advantage is the combination of capable noise reduction, small in-ear hardware and Apple ecosystem convenience.

Who should buy AirPods Pro 2 at a discount?

Good match

  • iPhone owners who want ANC in a compact in-ear design.
  • Commuters, travelers and office workers who benefit from isolation.
  • People who find the open fit of standard AirPods too loose and prefer silicone tips.
  • Gift buyers who have confirmed the recipient uses Apple devices.
  • Existing basic-AirPods owners who want stronger noise control and a Find My-enabled case.

Look elsewhere or wait

  • Android-first users, who can use them as Bluetooth earbuds but may lose Apple-specific setup, customization and switching conveniences.
  • Anyone who dislikes ear tips, pressure or a sealed in-ear fit.
  • Buyers who want the newest AirPods Pro generation.
  • Shoppers who value maximum battery life over Apple integration.
  • Anyone paying close to the former $249 list price after a newer model has arrived.

AirPods Pro 2 versus the alternatives

Option Best for Main trade-off Price context
AirPods Pro 2 (USB-C) iPhone owners wanting ANC, silicone tips and seamless Apple features Older generation; weaker value near full price or for Android users $189.99 was a 2024 holiday price; later reports cited roughly $154–$169 lows
AirPods Pro 3 Buyers who want the newer Apple Pro generation Worth choosing only when its premium over discounted Pro 2 is acceptable Later coverage identifies it as the newer model; current price was not verified here
AirPods 4 with ANC Apple users who dislike silicone tips or want an open fit Less passive isolation than sealed Pro earbuds Historical coverage cited roughly $90–$120, depending on version and event
Beats Studio Buds+ Shoppers seeking a cheaper, cross-platform ANC option Less of the AirPods ecosystem and Pro-case experience Prime Day coverage reported about $99.95
Sony WF-series earbuds Android users and buyers prioritizing cross-platform features No central advantage from Apple’s automatic pairing and switching Current August 2026 price was not verified

Historical alternative prices are event-specific, not promises of current availability. The relevant comparison is the price you can verify today against the exact model and condition.

  • Active Noise Cancellation reduces unwanted background noise
  • Adaptive Transparency lets outside sounds in while reducing loud environmental noise
  • Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking places sound all around you
  • Multiple ear tips (XS, S, M, L)

How to check an AirPods Pro 2 listing before paying

  1. Confirm the port: look for “USB-C charging case” in the title, specifications and photographs. Do not assume every Pro 2 listing is the newer case.
  2. Check condition: distinguish new, renewed, refurbished and open-box inventory.
  3. Inspect the seller: verify whether the item is sold and shipped by the retailer or by a marketplace seller.
  4. Recheck checkout: coupons, memberships, location and stock can change the displayed price.
  5. Read returns and warranty: opened earbuds may face hygiene-related return restrictions. Confirm warranty and serial-number coverage.
  6. Compare generations: if a newer AirPods Pro model costs only modestly more, the older model’s discount may not compensate for its age.
  7. Match the platform: confirm that the recipient uses an iPhone or is comfortable with the reduced Android feature set.

Unusually cheap marketplace offers also warrant counterfeit caution. A low headline price is not a bargain if the product is used, incomplete, unsupported or difficult to return.

Verdict

$189.99 was a good U.S. holiday price for new, USB-C AirPods Pro 2, especially for an iPhone owner who wanted ANC and silicone tips. It was not proven to be the 2024 season’s record low, and the offer should not be presented as current. At roughly $150–$170, the Pro 2 becomes a particularly compelling clearance buy; around $180–$190 it remains reasonable; near $200–$220, compare the newer Pro generation; near $249, wait or choose an alternative.
