MRPeasy is the best overall fit for many small manufacturers in 2026 because it delivers BOM-driven MRP, production planning, purchasing, inventory and traceability without an enterprise-scale project. Katana is a stronger choice for e-commerce brands, Odoo for a customizable business suite, and Fishbowl Advanced for QuickBooks-centered operations. ERPNext, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Acumatica become more compelling as technical control, Microsoft integration, multi-entity finance or multi-site complexity increases.
There is no universal winner. Your production model, accounting system, operator access needs, budget and tolerance for implementation should determine the shortlist.

What counts as manufacturing software?
Inventory software records purchased and finished goods, locations, reorder points and fulfillment. MRP combines demand, bills of materials (BOMs), lead times, inventory and schedules to calculate what to buy and make. ERP adds finance, sales, purchasing, CRM, projects and reporting. MES or shop-floor software captures work-center activity, labor, machine data, quality and production progress. A product marketed for manufacturing may offer only light assembly, so verify the actual capabilities.

1. MRPeasy — best overall for small manufacturers needing real MRP
Best for: Make-to-order, make-to-stock, batch and mixed-mode businesses that have outgrown spreadsheets.
MRPeasy is purpose-built for small and midsize manufacturers, combining BOMs, production orders, MRP, drag-and-drop rescheduling, purchasing, warehouse management, lot traceability and accounting connections. Its listed plans are Starter $49, Professional $69, Enterprise $99 and Unlimited $149 per user per month; annual billing is shown with one free month, users above 10 are bundled in $79-per-10-user increments, and Unlimited has a two-user minimum. Treat those figures as a dated starting snapshot.
Integrations listed by MRPeasy include QuickBooks Online, Xero, Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, ShipStation and Zapier. Higher plans add capabilities such as quality control, serial numbers, subcontracting, barcode systems, master production scheduling, multiple sites, forecasting and revision control. The trade-off is narrower native finance, CRM, HR and multi-entity governance than a full ERP, plus per-user cost when many operators need logins.
2. Katana — best for inventory-led and e-commerce manufacturing
Best for: Brands selling through Shopify, WooCommerce, marketplaces, wholesale and fulfillment channels.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsKatana centers on real-time inventory, production, purchasing, barcode scanning, batch and serial traceability, routings and multichannel synchronization. Its official pricing lists a free plan limited to 30 SKUs and unlimited users, integrations, locations and API access; Core starts at $299 per month, while manufacturing, inventory, warehouse, planning and other add-ons can raise the bill.
That usage-based model can suit a team with many users, but the headline price is not a complete manufacturing quote. Katana is less convincing for a job shop needing deep finite-capacity planning, highly variable routings, engineering change control or sophisticated job costing.

3. Odoo Manufacturing — best customizable budget platform
Best for: Companies wanting manufacturing alongside accounting, sales, CRM, websites, e-commerce, projects and purchasing.
Odoo supports BOMs, production orders, work orders, scheduling, shop-floor workflows and inventory in a broad modular suite. Current comparison coverage places paid plans around $24.90 per user per month, with a free path associated with one application. Your total depends on edition, applications, hosting, users, migration and partner services.
Rank #3
Odoo’s flexibility and ecosystem are major advantages, but configuration can become the project. Community or self-hosted deployments shift hosting, upgrades, security and support to you. Choose it when you can appoint an internal owner and control customization; do not mistake a low license price for a low implementation cost.

4. Fishbowl Advanced — best for QuickBooks-centered manufacturing
Best for: Businesses that rely on QuickBooks and need BOMs, work orders, MRP, warehouse control and traceability.
Fishbowl Advanced Manufacturing adds subassemblies, made-to-order builds, production scheduling, job and labor costing, landed cost, lot or batch tracking and mobile barcode workflows, with QuickBooks Online, Desktop and Enterprise integration. The official pricing page lists Advanced Manufacturing from $675 per month; Fishbowl Inventory is a separate product with a listed starting price of $229 per month. Users and deployment affect the final quote.
Confirm that a demo covers Advanced, not the lighter inventory product. Fishbowl is less attractive if you want a manufacturing-first cloud experience without QuickBooks or need a low-cost, simple implementation.

5. ERPNext — best open-source and self-hosted option
Best for: Technical teams that value source control, self-hosting and a broad ERP.
ERPNext covers manufacturing, inventory, purchasing, accounting, CRM, sales and projects. Self-hosted licensing can be $0, but hosting, backups, monitoring, security, upgrades, implementation and internal technical time are still real costs. Managed hosting has separate commercial terms.
ERPNext can provide exceptional control for a developer-led organization. It is a risky choice for a nontechnical owner without a dependable administrator or partner, because operating the stack becomes your responsibility.
6. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central — best for Microsoft-based businesses
Best for: Manufacturers already invested in Microsoft 365, Teams, Excel, Power BI or Azure and needing integrated finance and operations.

Business Central is a broad ERP with manufacturing connected to finance, sales, purchasing, inventory, reporting and controls. Licensing varies by country, edition, user type and partner; there is no defensible single universal manufacturing price. Partner configuration, integrations and migration can dominate the project.
It is sensible when you are scaling into a governed ERP. It is excessive when the requirement is only BOMs, inventory, purchasing and basic scheduling. Do not confuse it with Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management, which targets a different scale.

Best for: Growing manufacturers needing multi-location operations, distribution, finance, project accounting and broader ERP headroom.
Acumatica offers manufacturing and cloud ERP depth for mixed-mode and multi-site organizations. Its consumption-oriented, quote-based economics depend on users, transactions, applications, locations and deployment, so request a scenario-specific proposal rather than using a generic per-user comparison.

Choose by production model
- Make-to-stock: Prioritize forecasting, master production scheduling, safety stock and capacity.
- Make-to-order: Test order-driven MRP, reservations, promised dates and partial completions.
- Engineer-to-order or job shop: Validate variable routings, estimates versus actual labor, outside processing, rework and revision control.
- Discrete assembly: Confirm multi-level BOMs, substitutions, backflushing and barcode reporting.
- Batch or process manufacturing: Require formulas, yields, co-products, expiration, unit conversion, quality tests and recall records; never infer these from a basic BOM.
- E-commerce/private label: Favor reliable Shopify, WooCommerce, marketplace, fulfillment and multichannel inventory synchronization.
- Contract or outsourced manufacturing: Test subcontract purchase orders, supplier operations, traceability and material ownership.
Features that separate real MRP from light inventory
Manufacturing control
- Single- and multi-level BOMs, routings, work orders, material availability and MRP recommendations.
- Scheduling, capacity, shop-floor reporting, scrap, yield, disassembly, rework and subcontracting.
- Standard and actual costing, labor and overhead allocation, revision and version control.
Inventory and supply chain
- Raw material, work-in-progress and finished goods across warehouses and locations.
- Lot, serial and expiration tracking; barcode scanning; reservations; safety stock; landed cost; supplier lead times.
Commercial and governance
- QuickBooks, Xero or native accounting; sales orders; customer pricing; e-commerce; shipping; APIs and exports.
- Permissions, audit trails, mobile access, import tools, training, support, sandbox access and recoverable data.
Implementation and total-cost checks
Budget for subscription or license, manufacturing add-ons, users, sites, integrations, data migration, training, barcode hardware, support and—when self-hosted—hosting, backups, security and upgrades. Clean a representative sample of items, BOMs, routings, suppliers, lead times, on-hand quantities and open orders before choosing. Incomplete master data will make any MRP system produce unreliable recommendations.
Ask whether operators need individual logins, shared tablets, offline work, labor and downtime capture, scrap recording and barcode scanning. A system affordable for five office users may be awkward or expensive when every workstation must report production.
